Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I know this is a dumb question but will the 2 littles be allowed to travel? from what a family near me has said they cant travel with their fosters for now. just wondering if it is different for you guys
Our “travel ban” expires the 29th of May. So, if we “chose” to, and were given permission we “could” potentially travel on May 29th. Our social worker did say no out of state travel for kids who are in our state/county custody may travel during the “ban” but that travel may resume after. That also deiends on birth parents permission ( which we have gotten and can get from our boys parents) and the boys Guardian Ad Litems/attorneys and County workers. Pandemic or not, we have had some birth families that have not allowed to tradable, ever, but most of ours (we have fostered fir 12 years, about 30 kiddos) have been slowed. Almost all of the Peeks we had, we took to Disney World.

The reality is, if you want a chance to be able to go shortly after it opens, whenever that is, you’re going to have to accept this level of communication. Doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right, it’s what they’re doing.

If you need to rant by all means rant (not like you needed my permission), but expecting different is just going to end up being frustrating and pointless. They’ll let us know when they’re opening and what it even entails on their schedule. There may not be a lot of notice.
For me it's not about being there when it opens, I have AP and will anyway. I have extended family coming for a once a year trip that's been rescheduled twice. We're getting close to it not happening and if it won't happen, I'd like to know so I can buy AP to universal. Lowry park Zoo, Florida Aquarium, freaking Gatorland, universal, everyone is opening and WDW who is significantly more expensive says nothing. My family wouldn't have picked June had they not offered free dining. We didn't even use free dining, but saw it as obvious WDW was shooting for that so we picked late June. Then the message changed to maybe not even July. Then cancel June and just let me know this trip isn't happening. It's not about being first, it's about communicating with people who were willing to throw money to you when you were hurting.

Certainly seems like the NBA thing is an all but done deal. We don't know yet how it might affect the parks or hotels reopening to the general public, but it's not a stretch to think the NBA deal might impact how and when it happens. It probably will, at least tangentially.

That is upsetting, that it's possible WDW reopening could be delayed at all by basketball of all things.

Meanwhile, Universal is ready to go by June 5th. I had a Disney trip in April I had been planning for months that got canceled. Well -- now I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a late June trip to Universal instead. May not even get to Disney at all this calendar year. That's money Disney has lost that Universal will gain.

At a minimum the NBA deal will require moving people around in resorts though I think that may have happened regardless. I'm still expecting some resort consolidation.

Good Lord I have a lot of typos! Lol, sorry!

They aren’t communicating better nor have they throughout. Experience says this is not going to change too much.

I understand that it’s frustrating. I understand the need to rant. But at this point anyone who wants a chance to go in June, and then July, is likely going to need to accept it or cancel on their own.

We are considering jumping ship to Universal. It's not out of spite either. We are exhausted by the back and forth suspense. We want a sure thing or something closer to it. Universal offers that for now. We've never been to Universal either and it does seem really cool. Might be cheaper as well.

My extended family won't be able to, but my immediate family is jumping ship to Universal if we get nothing by Wednesday. Haven't been since before Harry Potter. It's also not out of anger towards Disney but just because I can't waste a month waiting for them to open.

Edit: it is much cheaper for AP. Not sure about other things.

thanks for the reply. we have never fostered but have family and friend who have. plus when I worked in daycare we had a few kids who were placements. as I say thanks for letting me have an answer. good luck with your trip if you go

And none of those eyeballs are going to line the Mouse’s pocket so they do not matter.
ESPN/ABC as the exclusive rights to the NBA finals as well as lot of the other rounds along with Turner. Last year the NBA finals Alone pulled in 288 million in ad revenue and that was a low year. The year before when it was the Warriors and Cavs played in the finals they pulled in 366 million.

To add. Given the other rounds ESPN/ABC will air they have over a Half a billion dollar incentive to make the NBA work.

I saw a fantastic twitter thread that addressed the “I’m not scared to live” people. Maybe this gets deleted, I don’t know.

In short, it compared jumping back into normal life to jumping back into a pool that had been the victim of a pool fouling without any measures taken besides having people clear the pool for a while. Sounds silly, but point being it doesn’t make you fearful to refrain from doing something without proper safety measures, it makes you smart.

The narrative that it makes one brave to not fear COVID-19 and brave to take a stand against safety measures is so frustrating. Masks, distancing, and the works are what makes it possible to get back to places like Disney sooner than later.

Don’t jump into the pool until it’s been cleaned. Okay? Okay.

Agree. I've started to go back out to restaurants and bars (at one now in fact). Some have done a very good job like this one and I give them my business. Some have no and I either go once and Don't go back or in a few cases look inside and turn around and go elsewhere. There are enough places taking things seriously not to have to patronize those that are not.

Besides vague communication. What have they done to tick people off? Everyone on here is so upset about the NBA like it is a done deal it will affect the opening. Nothing has been said. I mean Disney could present this week and all will be forgiven. I think a lot of people on these boards have worked themselves up about the NBA thing when there is nothing yet to get worked up about.
-not refunding stand-alone tickets
-not honoring promotions for future bookings
-not honoring the re-booking promotion if you used it and got cancelled again
-not canceling reservations that clearly were not going to happen once Disney realized they obviously weren’t happening (April, May)
-poor phone CM communication (we’ve had multiple reports of phone CMs not following script and telling people they definitely would/wouldn’t be open by X date. Even had one person whose fam friend believed the phone CM the parks would open by 6/1 over the DISer who knew there was a chance parks didn’t open.)
-no understanding for AP holders who won’t be able to visit the park until this is completely over
-no clear communication for AP holders whose passes expired between closure and now (as their passes are technically no longer active) leading to reports of phone CMs telling a couple people since the APs aren’t active they actually won’t qualify for an extention OR a refund while other CMs say they will be eligible to pick between both (my fav was the the CM insisting the person could only have the extention if they renewed their AP)
-some phone CMs telling AP holders they needed to renew their AP now in order to book FP if their AP expired over the closure others know about FP keys get those issued out as should have happened from the beginning)
-keeping AP FP Key a secret option you only get if you call and know to ask for it to book FP with your expired AP that you hope extends

Please note I mentioned nothing about sports or rumors, these are all things they have actually done.

That is starting to sound like real money. :-)

And then from the NBA side, they owe a lot of money in fines if they don't give the regional sports networks the required number of games so they have millions to lose if it doesn't happen. Whatever they are paying disney is likely less then what they would lose from the contract violations.

Ahh! I thought Turner had them. Gotcha. Well back to my opinion the Mouse can line his pockets with broadcast money + theme park money 😂
IMO this is still the most likely scenario. Disney is a big operation and trying to figure out how to open all these resorts and parks as well as house the NBA takes longer then UOs much much smaller operation. I think all along they are trying to do both because it’s going to help their bottom line both directly and indirectly.

Ive been doing my best to try and read ALL the posts, but somehow I missed the whole opening in August rumor. How did it start? Lol
Thanks!
