Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

That might be something to discuss with your employer before you go. I would not be surprised if some employers insist on isolation after a high risk exposure to protect their other workers they are trying to get back to work. They might alternatively require a mask at work for 14 days, etc.

Correct. My husbands employer is requiring a 14 day quarantine at home if you or anyone in your house has left our local region—including going to other parts of the state. You are not allowed back in the building after any travel. Employers don’t want this spreading through their workplace either... Of course that may not be an option for everyone...

Thanks to streaming video my teenagers have watched all of Friends, and make Friends references all the time. They've also watched all of Seinfeld and the Office. And back when Family Ties was streaming on Amazon Prime, my 15yo watched every episode! She was even complaining the other day that it was no longer available for free because "I could really use some Family Ties right now." So maybe knowing TV shows won't date us quite the way it used to!

Yeah they are stuck in policies from early March!

I got asked last week at the doctors office if I had been on a cruise in the last two weeks . I was like "if by 'cruise' you mean 'sat in the jetted tub crying for two hours' then yes". I don't think anyone has been on a cruise aside from those that were stuck, and at this point I'm sure they aren't too concerned with going to the allergist.

To be fair to Disney, they’re not the only ones not being transparent in their decisions. Many company’s don’t know when they’ll be allowed to open. My sister works a a restaurant and got called back to work last weekend for To Go orders, her manager said they’re reopening for in restaurant seating on May 15th. She went into work knowing that May 15th wasn’t realistic and asked when they were really opening up and they said probably not for another 6-8 weeks.

Then there was an outlet nearby my house owned by Simon, and earlier this month they released a statement that said Simon group outlets will open back up on May 15th, not specifying that it wouldn’t be all of them. So my local outlet posted on social media they were opening on May 15th and Cuomo said “um, no you’re not”

In their defense, Disney may not know what they are going to do yet. This thing has been a constantly changing landscape for 2 months now.
They may have target dates in mind, but no definitive plans. They may see a sudden spike in COVID cases/hospitalizations/deaths across the country that may get them to postpone things or futher modify their plans.

I think they are still getting a "feel" what their guests want. Why open at all, if they lay down a ton of restrictions that a lot guests may not want (and thus won't come anyway until things are more "normal"). Why open with restrictions and capacity limits if they have to pick and choose which already reserved vacations can come or not .. etc.

Agree and that is why they sent the survey. I highlighted in the OP the points that I think would have the most impact on experience. They may be trying to figure out if they open sooner with some significant modifications and they will have enough guests come or, if they need to postpone the opening and have fewer significant modifications.

On my end, I am fairly willing to go, as long as it's not just MK open. If they can open MK, DHS and AK, I am happy to keep my trip and I am happy to adhere to safety rules, including following markings on social distancing, put on a face covering and do touchless/contactless ordering and payment.

EDIT To add: No TS service would also make me want to rethink a trip.

In a Disney Facebook group for June someone said that their TA told them that their June 6-13 trip was cancelled. But would a TA even have that info on a Monday or Tuesday? Hasn't Disney been doing it on Wednesdays?

I am a TA and this is NOT TRUE. They are still cancelling week to week. Currently cancelled through May 30th. Next round - if coming - would be tomorrow or Thursday.

I suspect my employer will do the same based on our travel guidelines from Feb/March before they sent most of us to work from home and our travel recommendations now even when most of us are working at home anyway.

My mother still has a reservation for May 27th (DVC room only) at the Beach club and can place her magic band order to pick up at the resort. I have no option for magic bands for our October trip however.

first it not "they may have been saying that" they have been saying that, it's on video and recording
Second they are playing it one week at a time, they can't come out and say "we're opening this day" right now because we haven't switched to phase 2 and we don't have the data yet
Once they have that, I'm sure we will see a more specific date posted. By cancelling reservations one week at a time gives them the ability to give the guests 3 weeks notice that their vacation won't happen and at the same time the ability to open on short notice

Yeah, this makes sense to me. I don't *like* it because I am trying to do *something* this summer and don't want to plunk non-refundable air/airbnb for an alternative to WDW, so I am waiting to get more information from WDW, but it does make complete sense to me.

I'm with you there. I could deal with a lot of the other things (masks, no fireworks, no characters...etc) but I would not go on a trip where TS was not available.

For me, the big question isn't whether I would be comfortable with wearing a face mask and social distancing, etc., but would I be comfortable and feel safe when some (a few? many?) fellow parkgoers aren't doing these things? I can't control other people. And I don't want to put myself in a totally optional situation where I might be risking getting infected and the possible outcomes of that just to visit WDW. And I love WDW.

You are of course correct and more than justified in your view. I do find it to be a bit of a false equivalency. While all the activities you mention do have risks attached, most also have procedures and common sense guidelines you can follow in order to minimize that risk on a very visceral way. You can see the threats to safety in those activities. If he is swinging to high you stop him. I cannot see if the guy who sneezed in his hand grabbed the safety bar before my kid did. Plus I think there is far to much not yet learned on this virus. For example a month ago it did not affect kids at all. Oops.
lastly I am not looking for anyone else to manage safety for my child. It is my job to keep them out of harms way. And my kids are not limited. They play sports, commute to the city for school and enjoy freedoms and experiences I never dreamed of as a kid. I am not overly cautious in general, I just don’t see the value in taking any chances right now

I also cannot see the drunk driver who is about to plow into my vehicle before it kills us. I just have to take all possible safety precautions & hope for the best. Just the same you can take precautions to protect yourself from the virus even in public. And I think that’s the fear fatigue that so many of us have. The fear mongers would have you believe you step outside, you get the virus & then you die.

I thought the same thing but some people are voicing suspicions these are TA group bookings getting cancelled (the ones done by large agencies who work the special deals with Disney)...

Yes. That's the real question for some folks. There will 100% be people not wearing masks at times. Standing around drinking water in line, mask less. Someone who can't wear a mask having a sneeze or a cough. It will happen. Folks not ok with that at the time of their trip definitely shouldn't go.

This is exactly why DH and I would cancel our trip. We are ok with some other things being gone, but TS is a deal breaker, 100% won't go if they take away TS. This was supposed to be our trip where we could eat at all the places we've always wanted to but our kids don't want to go to, and not having that would upset me more than having my trip canceled.

The only case I've read of a June guests being informed they are canceled was posted in the Rumors thread on cancellations, and is coming from a guest that booked a package deal through a TA that included a charter flight. I can imagine that if the charter flight is a no-go, the entire package could be canceled, since there may not be a way to get the guest to WDW one the dates, airport and cost that they had originally.

I would be curious to know if anyone that has a regular package reservation without a flight has gotten cancelled. Normally, we start seeing the cancellations on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It could be that some are coming out earlier this week.

Replying to my post from earlier today. It appears that WDW is indeed starting to cancel reservations taking place during the first week of June that were booked directly with Disney (cash). My magic band experience - I got an email March 17th (the 2nd day of park closures, and a couple days before resorts themselves closed) that our bands were now shipped and would be waiting at the resort when we checked in. Our check in date was March 21st, the resorts closed I believe the day before, I’m not sure if it was officially announced by the time my bands shipped but they surely knew internally they were closing them.

I would caution reading into things like that if you’re the kind of person who’s going to be worse off if your hopes are up.

Lovely post. I remember many years ago folks were up in arms about something. The complaints were the same too: too restrictive, claustrophobic, uncomfortable, can't breathe with this on, you can't make me, etc. etc. It just wasn't normal to use them. Then laws were passed mandating their use because folks can't be trusted to do it voluntarily even it it means saving their life or others' lives. Years go by and everyone uses it now, without question or complaint. Sure there are a few holdouts, there always will be some. Funnily enough, it's one of the items that could save your life when that drunk driver hits you. It was called seat belts.
