Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

It may be a psychological condition. Like someone on the autism spectrum.
Or someone with panic disorders may start to feel claustrophobic with a mask on. That's actually not that uncommon. It can trigger a panic attack.
But, none of those (autism, panic disorders) are groups with a higher risk of COVID. I think the PP was referring to those that may not be able to wear a mask *because* they have a condition that is high risk for COVID.

As I said many pages back if anyone plans to go to Disney at this time they should get used to the masks now. Find one that fits properly and stock up. Try different styles and sizes.

Now is the time to get used to one if you want to go to Disney when they reopen.

It isn't an issue of finding the right style or the right size or getting used to it. I'm not going to get into what autism is, but you might want to read up on it.

And someone already said they called Disney about this, they said considerations will be made for special needs.

Maybe I have too much faith in Disney, but I have to think they will try to make it fun to get guests to comply with the new health measures. Like having a video with Goofy, acting all goofy with his mask not on correctly. And Mickey, being Mickey, showing Goofy how to put on his mask. And maybe even some theming to the new hand washing and disinfecting areas. And providing CMs with some ideas on how to encourage guests to follow the measures, in a way that is fun and doesn’t sound like scolding. I’m sure they can do it right and get guests to *want* to follow the measures.

They've already started the Disney'themed official masks...i'd think they will try to push those into popularity similarly to Ears....can you imagine "Come on everybody, get your mask on, it's gonna be a good, good, good, a good time!"

Not Disney but the central Florida zoo opened to passholders today and will open to the public Wednesday. 50% capacity, people need to buy timed/ dated tickets online, indoor experiences and kids play areas will be closed and masks will be encouraged.
This zoo is located in Sanford, about 45 min from Orlando
Margaritaville's H2O live is hinting at a June 1st reopening, that's like 10 minutes from Disney on 192.
As someone reported earlier Zoo Tsmpa is also reopening June 1st

I was thinking the same thing.

I already have a very cute headband and mask combo set that is Buzz Lightyear themed. :flower1:

Florida Aquarium reopening next weekend with reservations too

Broward County is the Fort Lauderdale area. Miami-Dade County encompasses Miami.

Broward and Miami-Dade are still under more stringent restrictions because of our higher rate of infection.

Not being mean or a jerk or anything, just saying that Broward County is NOT Miami.
I hear you. WNY is finally opening on Friday! My area had 100 cases and 3 deaths and we have been shut down for months

My autistic 12 year old daughter went out with her Rapunzel mask for the first time today and was excited about wearing it. My son had his annual check up and she went along with him and my wife. Once in the office, she proceeded to scream at everyone in the waiting room that they aren't supposed to be wearing masks, and then pulled hers off and threw it at someone. So a Disney requiring masks is probably not a Disney for us.

I know what it is. I am sorry but it might be time to approach the subject of getting special needs folks used to masks. Being in a theme park during a pandemic is probably a bad idea if someone can’t handle wearing a mask.

Well, I'm on the opposite side. I think anyone who can't handle the fact someone isn't wearing a mask should probably not go to a theme park. If you are that terrified of the virus, stay home.

That is great news. I love the word "encouraged." It is such a positive, happy word.

I wonder what they will do to cool guests off when they get hot. Without indoor experiences, they will have to find other respites from the heat. Disney will have to think about that, also. Are fans and misters considered safe in the time of Covid?

The Sanford zoo doesn't really have a lot of indoor places to begin with.
As for fans, during the live stream from SDL I saw people bringing their little fans in

You can bet that many of us who parent these kiddos ARE working on it. Each special needs individual is just that, though - an individual. Many will be able to successfully wear a mask with practice and patience, and many will not. Those who are not able to will not be able to “get used to it.” They have a right to be there just as much as you. That is a comment that is a little cruel and hurtful to those of us who have fought hard for our loved ones to be included in a world that is constantly trying to push them out. I don’t think you meant to be cruel, but this is something you cannot possibly understand until you have a loved one that is affected. I used to think the same way - then God gave me a special child.

I really don't want to jump on the mask debate, but anyone who's ever dealt with autism knows how easily tactile things can turn into a nuclear meltdown. IMO there's no way WDW would make them wear one. Masks will become the new ECV where (rightly or wrongly) people will pass judgement on use (or disuse). It's unfortunate.

No cruelty at all. These are strange times. Everyone is uncomfortable.

No. I'm not.

The guidance I was talking about is about regular masks that the general public might wear.

Masks can easily get contaminated, regardless of the material they are made of. And the CDC recommends washing hands before and after touching the mask. Every time.

And the point is that, regardless of the material of the face covering, people are going to contaminate them. And the more contamination, the more chance of spreading any virus or bacteria.

Here is the article talking about the concern that the general public (not the people who wear N-95s) is not trained on how to wear masks and will therefore contaminate the masks.

Forbes Article
You can't contaminate the mask any more than your face is already contaminated. (I don't mean that to sound like some middle school insult or anything - all of our faces are contaminated.) The same recommendation would be made for touching your face. The masks are for others, the hand washing is for you. The hand washing recommendations would be no different whether you wore a mask or not.

I agree that if people are terrified of the virus they should stay home. But we can’t have it both ways. Everyone wants the economy to reopen, but they aren’t willing to change the terms.

Face shields will likely be an alternative to masks for these reasons. Face shields are much lighter and less distracting for the wearer than they look. I very frequently forget I am wearing one. It is so light, it doesn't even feel like a hat.
