Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Actually, they didn’t all wear them. I watched a video of the opening, and there were people in the crowd not wearing them. The city had relaxed mask wearing rules a few days before opening, so it may have had to do with that. Also, a blogger said a lot of people were taking theirs off frequently. As for kids, there weren’t really that many there from the video I saw.
Plus .. I really don't think Disney is going to kick you out of the park if your kids refuse to wear one, lose their mask, etc. They are going to make sure you have one when you walk in, but after that, they aren't going to enforce it like some totalitarian police force. They are running a theme park, not a hospital. They want their guests to have a good time. They won't want to harass their guests, but they may make friendly suggestions or hand out masks to people who don't have them.

All I know is .. my wife wore a mask for an hour or two inside Hobby Lobby and said it felt like she was suffocating just from that. Wearing it OUTSIDE in hot, humid Florida weather? There will be a lot of masks taken off once inside the gates and maybe just put back on inside places (theatres).

I'm in Central Florida, born and raised, and even as someone who has lived here for 35 years Florida gets extremely oppressive. It's the humidity. Breathing into a mask is like breathing into the palm of your hand, it's uncomfortable. BUT, imagine those people working in hospitals 60 hours a week, not only having to wear masks nonstop but also gloves, hats, gowns...all those many thousands of healthcare workers do it...with glasses, with other conditions that make it more uncomfortable. They do it. It's not impossible, but Americans are stubborn and everything is seen as an invasion of privacy and rights. Thing about a theme park is that you can choose to go, or not choose to go. If people don't want to follow the requirements in order to keep everyone safer, they just need to not go until the requirements ease.

Unfortunately, people will go who don’t agree with the rules and who will try to get around them. So I think it’s also safe to say that people shouldn’t go who won’t be able to handle the fact that others won’t be complying at all times. (For the record, I am not saying my family won’t comply, or that I am condoning non-compliance.)

I think if anyone should feel unwelcome, it is those who want to break Disney rules, not the other way around. One could say this about any rule that some people don't like, like smoking. Now should someone lose their mind if someone has their mask pulled down while they walk outside eating a dole whip? Of course not. But someone standing in an indoor line or crowded store without a mask? I think anyone should feel comfortable reminding them to mask up please. I think the problem becomes one when everyone knows Disney has a mask policy on the books but "it's ok no one cares if you don't follow it."

I agree. But I probably wouldn’t be saying things to other guests. It just invites a not-so-magical situation to take place. I think it’s highly unlikely said guest would respond with, “Oops, you’re right! I completely forgot! Thank you so much!” And more likely the response could be nasty, and something I’d rather not deal with on vacation. IMO, the best thing to do is move away from the offender if possible, just as you would do with a smoker.

CNBC complied some nice photos from opening day. I believe you are discussing the phenomenon seen in Photo #3 lol

I agree and the view should be - this is the deal if you want to come now, if you don't want to visit in this way (be it masks, no character meets, no parades, whatever) then don't come now but this is how it has to be for us to be open at all now

2 notes to this though:
- for those that had trips scheduled I hope they work with them to reshedule and honor any deals they may have had (free dining, etc.)
- for pass holders, I hope this time doesn't start the "clock" on their pass or that they can choose to push out the start of their time on the pass. I'd had to be paying full price for my pass and not want to go due to the conditions in the park: that isn't want I "signed up for" when I got the pass

guess I am golden on the mask in Epcot then.. I have a beer in my hand from open to close....LOL

I would love to be able to push out the pass start time. Even if I wanted to visit the parks as early as they will open in whatever state they are opening, the Canadian government doesn't seem to want me to lol.

I think you’re going to need masks made out of fabric that works well in hot/humid weather.

I'm looking into some moisture wicking gaiters for my husband, because he doesn't want to shave his beard. He should probably be wearing them to do yard work anyway. Pollen is bad here.

Hey, awesome idea! So if I take up smoking it should help with the social distancing, nice!
I believe old Walt himself was a heavy smoker. Honestly though it doesn't bother me much, as long as it's outside.

other option I could see is let you cancel, get a refund back on portion you didn't use and then grandfather in the renewing bonus for whenever you start up your next AP (maybe say has to be within the next 12 months or something)

I agree - definitely throwing me .... and then in another video they show that they have yellow boxes taped on the ground for watching shows and the guests are to stand inside the boxes - so some times it means "don't stand here" and sometimes it means "stand here" - so not confusing at all :D

Just to make it more confusing, the yellow markers on the boat seats and queue railings appear to mean "sit/stand here." 🙃
