Hi there,

I couldn't find anything about this on the member site so thought I'd ask here.

What are the rules about gifting someone else with a reservation using your points? Is there no problem setting up a ressie in someone else's name?

Also, I have an aunt who is a new member and she's concerned about these things, if you have a reservation and find your party can't go - can you just change the name on the ressie to someone else and let them use it?

My aunt has my family in mind (yay!) if a situation occurs where she can't use her points or reservation.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can make a reservation in someone else's name or change the name at a later date. The confirmation letter will still be sent to the member who makes the reservation. The guest will not be able to make any advance requests - adding things like DME and DDP will still need to be made by the member who controls the reservation.

Enjoy! :)

Your Aunt will need the names, ages of children, addresses and phone number of the Guests when she makes their reservation.

She should consider adding you as an associate so you can make reservations on her behalf. Currently you can change the name on a given reservation at will and I doubt this will change but there is the possibility that it could such that a name change becomes a cancelation and rebooking or other similar limitations.

What is an associate on the account? My parents just bought DVC, but they are relying on me to understand it and make res's for them. This sounds like it work well for our situation if it is easy to do. Thanks for the info.

An Associate Member on the account is like having someone manage your points. An associate can make reservations, bank and borrow points, but is not legally responsible for the contract and has no financial liability.

You need to contact Member Services/Member Accounting and send something in writing (or fax) that you want to someone as an associate.
