Is there any rule about how early you are allowed to borrow points from next year ? You cant bank your points in the last 4 months of UY - any similar rules I need to keep in mind about borrowing ?

If I am falling short of 3 or 4 points for a particular trip ; what are my options to get the additional points ( just for that particular trip ) ? Can I buy them ?

TIA ~

PS : I am not sure if I am breaking any rules by asking if I can buy points. Moderators - my apologies if I am and please delete the post if you feel its inappropriate.

You can only borrow points when making a reservation and you don't have enough banked or current year points to cover the reservation. The is no restriction as to last 4 months or anything like that.

DVC has an option of a one time purchase of up to 24 vacation points at $15/point if you need additional points to complete a reservation.

You can only borrow points at the time you are making a reservation so there is no specific timeline.

For example, if you are booking a trip for travel in your 2011 UY, you can borrow points from your 2012 UY when you call to book that trip, whenever that is.

This year, Disney did start selling members one time use points for reservations being made 7 months or less. These are $15/ppt and you can get up to 24 to finish a reservation so you don't have to borrow. You can only buy the points one time per UY.

Good luck!

One-time-use vacation point information from member website:
One-Time-Use Vacation Points
See the details on how you can purchase a minimal number of additional vacation points to use towards your stay of choice.

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.

Details:

  • One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.
  • You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.
  • A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.
  • The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.
  • One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.
  • One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.
  • One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.
  • One-time-use vacation points are only available for Members whose contract is closed and in good standing.
  • One-time-use vacation points are available only for Disney Vacation Club resorts, Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport Collection reservations.
  • One-time-use vacation points used for Disney Vacation Club resort reservations can only be used up to 7 months prior to arrival.
  • One-time-use vacation points for Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport reservations can be used according to the booking guidelines for each individual collection.

Thank you everyone. I am glad DVC has that option.

But what are my options if I need more than 24 points and I dont want to borrow ? Can I buy them from other sources as a one time transaction for that trip only ?

Sorry - I think my post was confusing. I was referring to banking the points within 8 months of UY ( so last 4 months you cant bank them ). For example if UY is Dec 2010, you have to bank by July 2011 or you lose them.

you would need to find another owner willing to transfer the points to you (home resort status would carry over to you.) you can only transfer one time per year.

otherwise, you could rent a reservation from another owner - but just like a non-owner, you would not be able to call MS to verify or alter that rented reservation.

(and just FYI in case you don't know, banking and borrowing are both "final" transactions - if you bank or borrow pts, they remain in their new UY and cannot be put back into their original UY...so make sure before you call MS.)

That I didn't know !!! Thanks for informing me - I wouldn't be very upset if I found out the hard way :scared1:
