What is the Rule of Four?

You cannot book AND travel on The Disney Collection (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.

The rule of 4 has two parts:

You can't bank points from your current use year in to next use year in the last 4 months of your current use year. So, if you have a June use year, the latest date that you can bank points is Jan 31.

The other part of that is that you can't book AND travel for resorts outside of the DVC collection within the last 4 months of your use year. You can book travel for NEXT use year in the last 4 months of your current use year. You can also travel during the last 4 months of your current use year, so long as you book it before the last 4 months.

If my use year is september and I need to book a vacation for Jan 2010 can I make it now in june eventhough is in the last for months of my current use year??

Yes. If the trip was for a non-DVC use of points and you were booking it now for sometime before Sept 01, you wouldn't be able to do it. Since it is during your next UY, there isn't any problem.

If your trip in Jan 2010 is not a DVC trip, the points required may not have been negotiated yet.

okay now I am confused again (go figure) Are you all saying that you cannot even book at one of the DVC properties at the world during the last four months of your UY. If so, boy that really puts a damper on being spontaneous. It seems like there is usually availability at OKW and SSR and I was really looking forward to quick unplanned trips once in a while.

DVC properties can be book at any time, providing there is availability. It is the other options, The Disney Collection, the Conceirge Collection, etc. that you can not book AND travel during the last 4 months.

So, if you want to travel in Jan 2010 to a DVC resort, then you can make your reservation now at your home resort and depending on your check in date, will be able to make reservations at any DVC resort sometime this month (ie: check ins on Janaury 15, 2010 can be booked at any resort starting June 15th) as you will reach the 7 month window for those bookings.

DVC properties are NOT part of the Disney Collection.

DVC properties are NOT part of the Disney Collection.

That was were my confusion was. When I read Disney Cllection I thought the DVCs were included.
