Hi  Has anyone ever did rug hooking and used fabric instead of yarn?
I want to use scrap fabric to match my daughters bedroom.I have bought a peice of the mesh at a thrift store, then now what? I would like it nice, thick and shaggy. How big do I cut the fabric and do i go in every loop? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I have done a lot of latch hook, but not with fabric scraps. I think it should turn out fine though. I've seen a lot of those type of rugs in the store. Couldn't you cut the fabric scraps to double the length you want the shag to be, and roll the scraps up to resemble a yarn thread? I would say not to make it too wide (the scrap thread), or when you roll it, it will be too thick to go through the canvas. I have a friend that crochets rugs with fabric scraps, and her creations are beautiful. She uses a large gauge crochet hook, and just puts all kind of colors together. I've told her she should sell her creations.
