I hope you all do not mind, I need to vent! We just returned from a wonderful stay at Hilton Head. It was perfect except for one thing. The people above us sounded like a herd of elephants! They were up at DAWN and it sounded like they were coming through the roof! Now the rude part, after one night and day of this we were getting ready for bed and they came home, yup, Thumping like crazy. I thought OK maybe they do not know how much noise they are making and rather then do nothing, I called the desk and explained (very nicely) the problem. The desk clerk said NO Problem, I'll give them a call. Within 10 min. they got LOUDER!!! It was SO clear that we were being punished for saying something. They kept it up for the rest of our stay! I know I should have called again but really did not wish to make them any louder! Please folks, if you are staying in a room above someone try to step softly. And if asked to decrease the noise, do so. This was our 3rd stay at HH in the past 2 months. Both other trips we felt like the only people there. SOooo peaceful! We would hear a few noises from other rooms (mostly plumbing noise) but Nothing like this trip. Thanks for letting me vent! I feel SO much better :D

That really is a shame that people would intentionally ruin someone else's vacation. That really is rude! I just don't get why people have to be so mean.

I had a very similar thing happen during an OKW stay (with friends no less). The people above me decided to have some sort of party, complete with music (they must have brought their own boom box). Not only were they loud inside, several people were out on the porch too. Every other word out of these people's mouths was F... this and F... that and F... I can't believe you F......, you get the point. This was after 11pm.

I looked outside and could see that Guests from other buildings were watching ours. I called the front desk and they said they were aware of the problem and nobody answered the door when it was knocked on. HELLO! These people were disturbing our entire area (sound carries). The noise kept up and eventually I heard someone out on the lawn calling up to these rude people.

Next morning, very early I wake up to the sound of running upstairs and then someone banging pots and pans out on the porch.

This was my worst stay at OKW.

That is one REAL nice thing about the Grand Villas at OKW. They are all two story units with nothing on top. I have never heard a peep from a neighbor. In my one night studio stay with my daughter a few months ago, we could hear our neighbors come in, but it wasn't anything to be concerned with. We didn't hear another thing.

If I heard someone banging pots on the balcony, I would make a wild horrible scene. 911, police, everyone I could arouse. I would block there car in till authorities arrived. You are talking about a crime when someone is banging pots out on their balcony.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx,This has failed every time it has been tried, why do we still have liberals?

These stories remind me of some of our camping experiences, but at least we only paid around $20 a night and you have to expect some noise when the only thing separating you from your neighbors is a little canvas!

That is horrible! I am curious - did you request to be moved to another unit?

Sorry to hear of your experience. We had a similar occurance once (NOT at WDW!!!). The people were up almost all night drinking, talking, swearing, the whole bit. Trying to reason with drunks didn't work, so when I awoke early the next morning for devotions I simply shared my morning praise with them (about 5:00am!) Funny thing, they complained that I was making too much noise, funnier thing, they complained to staff that I was making too much noise, funniest thing, staff (smiling) reported that they didn't hear anything! I believe their car left before 10:00am.... ;)

I can't beleive that people could be so rude and then make even more noise because you complained about them being inconsiderate. This makes me angry. The one at OKW with the pots and pans was really bad too. Some people have no clue what it is to be part of society and should go crawl back under the rock they came from and not bother the other 95% of the people who have social skills and know how to act in society.

While we have never had an experience quite as bad as what you describe, our first stay at OKW convinced me to always request top floor.

I'm a very light sleeper, and the sound of the toilet being flushed at 2am by the people above us alway wakes me up. Of course, I didn't realize this until it happened.

Noise doens't seem to carry upwards as well as it does downwards, and our last stay at OKW was on the top floor; we heard almost nothing. And I was very careful not to flush the toilet in the middle of the night.

One other noise problem is that of the people in teh unit next to you slamming the front door on a regular basis - I didn't do anything about it, but I was always careful to quietly shut my door, esp if it was early in teh AM or later at night.

My 2 cents!

One of our standard requests when we make ressies is "upper floor", specifically to avoid the noise problem. We're just two adults in a 1-bedroom, so we must be a treat to the people below! ;)

Jon, that is TOO funny. Good for you - that's turning the other cheek with a vengeance.

From those of us who are "bottom dwellers" :D We have a handicapped son, ergo no steps. Anyway - we appreciate whatever courtesy the upper floor folks can pass on.

Only once have we had loud people above us - at any given hour of the day, no rhyme or reason, stomping, slamming, thumping. Not worth complaining about though. But, Jill, we definitely appreciate your no-flushing at night rule. Avoid that huge explosion sound at all costs!!!

Thanks for letting me vent! Candace- we did not ask to be moved, the reason being, the day before our vacation was to start DD (8y/o) fell and sprained her knee, she was on crutches and it was difficult to get around. I called HH and explained the situation. The CM was great and got us a room right near the elevators in the main building so stairs would not be a problem. She mentioned at the time that they were full for the weekend. When I did call they offered me a unit in another building but going up 2 fights was not an option with DD's hurt knee.Really a bummer also as it was a 1BR (we had a stuido)unit near the pool which would have been great if not for the stairs!

Our worst experience was roller bladers practicing their jumps above us! This happened everyday of the trip.

We also need a wheelchair accessible first floor SO appreciate upper floor normal movements!

Our last trip to BWV was also our worst yet as far as noise from neighbors was concerned.

In our cluster of 4 rooms, were us, another single family and in the other two rooms were people from one family. So for 4 rooms, there were three families.

Well, when we are at WDW we are not early risers, we get up at about 10am and then stay in the parks as late as possible. Every morning, the family next us would let their little boy out into the hall (I'm assuming so that he could go to the other room with other family members), well every morning the little boy would bang on our door (I also assume he thought he was going to his family's room). About 30 minutes later, most of the family from these two rooms would stand in the hall and yell into the rooms at the people that were still in them.

While this may not be a problem for all people because a lot of people are up at 7am (which is the time this happened)every morning, we are not.

I would like to suggest that if people are early risers, they do their best not to make excessive noise when getting ready and leaving for the parks in the morning, and that those of us that are night owls try not to make excessive noise when returning from the parks and getting ready for bed.

The only problem I can see is that if most people are like I was, they are not aware of how noise carries through the walls and doors at BW.

I know that these people were not being noisy on purpose, but I think that every one should attempt to be quiet so as not to disturb others.

Anyway, through noise and all, I cannot wait to go back this December, I mean who really wants to sleep while at WDW anyway! :D

Well, I have a better one ;) When I lived in the upper half of a two story house, the person BELOW me made so much noise by stomping that it woke me up! I called the police (due to threatening calls she made me) and they couldn't believe how loud she was by walking (she was overweight... not trying to insult ANY person of larger size by any means!) She was obviously doing this on purpose. I moved out really quickly!

People can be so ridiculously loud! They don't think about anyone but themselves. I have a neighbor I had to call the police on because he was playing music in his garage WITH the door open at 2am ! They stopped. It's ridiculous that you HAVE to call the police for that! They have better things to do then teach people manners!

Ok, I'm done venting now ;)

I'm sorry to hear that your stay at HH was affected by the behavior of these people. HH is a beautiful resort and the quiet nature is what sold us on that resort.

I'm not sure what I would have done, but there would have been a follow-up for sure, although I doubt that I would have been creative enough to have full blown "devotions."

As for myself, I have two very active sons, 3 and 7, so I tend to seek reservations on lower floors wherever I stay so as not to disturb others. I think most people are well aware of the noise that they create, but every resort in the world has experienced this to some degree. It is not a DVC problem.

However, the key to the relative superiority of the resort is how well they clamp down on this abuse. Is there a written policy on this at DVC? Just curious.

We ran into the same problem but it was the oppisite. we were staying at a grand villia at HH with 12 (5 adults 4 teens 1 tween and 2 toddlers). We were not making any extra effort to be noisy or quite, just being our selves and having a good time. Both my husband and I are very alert people and try our best to teach our kids to be recpectful of other people.
The kids (teens) downstairs started to give my DD(11) a hard time about us being noisy. They did not speak to myself or my husband or any of the other adult in our group . Well DD came to us upset and my husband and I both went to the door and asked to speak with the adult in the group to see if we could work this out. (IE: explain there are twelve above them and not two or three running up and down the stairs all day .We were gone to the beach all day, came back for dinner and went out for the nights back by 9 bed by 11 and up at 7.30 we truely did not think we were being overly noisy.)Well the adult screamed to the kids to tell us to go to hell and she would not come to the door she was trying to sleep after we kept her awake all night. Cound not help but hear her.Don't know how we did this as we were all beat after a day at the beach and were fast asleep by 11. Well we tryed to keep our kids a little quiter but I am sure we sounded like a herd of elephants going up and down the stairs even trying to be quite . After this encounter all our bikes were knocked over or missing , they would slam their door every time they went in and out. I think the fault lies in the design of the building at HH I don't think they were well insulated and the noise seems to echo.We called MS and spoke to them about our being noisy and they told us no to worry about it to much. I would of like to work this out like reasonable adults but there wasn't one in the downstairs unit. I am sorry they feel we ruin their vacation ,but we did try and sometimes you can not please some people. They probley ruined mine more than I did theirs cause I worried about the noise the rest of the time and kept on the kids more then I should of but as I said I try to repect others.
