Rude Disney Guests

On every visit to Disney World, we always have trouble with guests from Brazil. They are usually teens and have no manners. They'll sneak in front of you even after you and your friends have waited in line for over 1 hour. They've done this every summer we visited. One girl even slapped my elderly friend in the face because he wouldn't let her sneak into the line at the Festival of the Lion King! I have no animosity against Brazil but if that's how they act in the USA, I can imagine how they act at home. They even cut in front of us during the Electrical Parade, although we had waited 2 hours to get a good space! Other visitors had nice manners and acted properly!

Is this a debate or just another slam at Brazil tour groups?

Hi Myron and welcome to the DIS. You've chosen to post on a somewhat controversial topic. I don't think your post was meant to be a slam. We have experienced the same thing you describe, and we found out that those groups are usually in WDW in July. We have chosen not to go to WDW in July- for a variety of reasons, but those groups factored into our decision.

I have a funny story to tell about this..... We had been waiting quite a long time for Splash Mountain. At the point where there's a bend in the line, closest to the walking path, a group of about 15 teens (doesn't matter where they were from) ducked under the rope and pushed in front of us. My DD said loudly "Hey, Mom, those guys are cheaters!" A couple of pre-teens in line behind us heard her and started chanting "Cheaters, Cheaters......" A number of very frustrated people behind us (most could see what had happened) started joining the chant and pointing at the group of line-busters. Finally, an entire section of the line was chanting and pointing at them. A CM came over and asked what the problem was. Everyone identified the offending kids. The CM called for additional security personnel for help and the entire group of kids was escorted away.....(not just out of line, but taken away as a group.) So, I guess they don't count on much resistance from a single individual or family but when the many people who had waited legimately in line worked together, the cheaters were put in their place !!!

Just curious if all the teens were wearing shirts that said they were from Brazil? If not how did you know they were from Brazil?

I HATE line cutters! They are absolutely horrible. I hate it when you have one person waiting in line, and EVENTUALLY the rest of the group will show up. I don't mind if it's one or two people, but NOT a giant group.

Yes they wear shirts and they carry banners or signs.

I don't belive that this is strictly a problem with Brazilian (or any other nationality) teens. When DW and I were there at the end of last May there were several groups of teens from central Florida schools in the Magic Kingdom right after Memorial Day. I had a small run in with several girls from one school in the line for the Grand Prix Race Track. They tried to insist that they had every right to cut the line because their teacher said they MUST stay with their group and the rest of their group were about 50 people ahead of the end of the line. I set them straight pretty quickly and they got out of line.

I think I should add an experience I've had with people from a Brazilian tour group. One year, while at WDW, I tripped and fell hard on my ankle. Besides my family, the first people at my side to help me were some Brazilian teenagers. They helped me get up, they went to get a cast member so my family could stay with me, they brought ice for my foot, and much more. They kept asking if we needed anything, and were ready to help whenever they could, staying with us until someone arrived to take us to the first-aid station. A great group of teenagers, for sure. ::MinnieMo

I agree that it can be ANY Nationality too.

I was really annoyed with a large school group of American teens (they all had the same shirts on) at the entrance to the MK in Dec. I had patiently waited my turn to take a shot of the station (before you go in the park) as I was just about to take my shot they all ran in front of me  and jumped up on the wall, completely blocking my view. I was fuming, as they had no regards for anyone else, they even had the nerve to say "lady, get out the way!" I stayed in place pretending to take more shots but I was livid  when their group leader tapped ME on the shoulder asking me to move out of the way as he wanted to take a picture.

Back in July 1996, we (NC Beast and I) were on our honeymoon and had a great time waving to the young teens from Brazil. They were not rude to us while they showed their happiness. People are raised differently around the the world (and even in the States). We just need to be tolerate and accept that maybe they don't realize what we consider our comfort zones and norms.
Sometimes it is not worth getting upset and ruin an otherwise pleasant trip.

Just my opinion.

I agree that where people are from doesn't always explain their rudeness, nor does it excuse it. Even though some groups tend to stand out, rude people can and do come from everywhere.

Nobody wants confrontation when they're on vacation, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. Hopefully, a CM will take care of the problem before you have to.

We always go in October or November and I don;t recall seeing groups of Brazilians, but we have encountered a few rude French (one of the French CMs introducing the movie in Epcot even joked about being "rude"). We've also encountered more than a few rude Americans. It seems rudeness is becoming more common all over.

So, just feed them to the aligators... Oh no, did I just say that? I have to try to be more tolerant...

were a and and woman who had to be in their late 70s. We were lined up for the backstage tour at MGM. It must have been really crowded because the line was very long.

This elderly gentleman would just gaze down at his shoes, and nonchalantly move ahead of about 7 or 8 people in line. He did it very slowly and would rotate his body position to face the right and then the left, somehow managing to pass a couple of people with each rotation.

Once he got a few yards ahead, his wife would "pardon me" along the line to join him. Then he would set off again.

No one said anything because of their age, but everyone noticed.

I guess I miss all that kind of stuff since we go in Nov or Dec when the crowds are low.
We only had a problem with somone cutting in line just once and it was so stupid since the line wasn't even that long. I think the kid was just too excited. Soon as his mom and others caught up with him, my husband told his mom what he was up to and she got on to him. She made him get back in line with them.

We always go to Florida in January, and my DH gets so annoyed with all the "foreigners." Especially the big groups with their guides. I remember our trip to Universal Studios we were at an attraction where the CM was talking and we could not hear what he was saying because of the rude foreign group standing beside us. They would not shut up, just kept speaking to each other in their language. I don't know if they didn't understand English or what, but we felt their guide should have told them to be quiet so the rest of us could hear the CM.

Another time, we had ridden Back to the Future and were in the back seat. We decided we wanted to experience it again, from the front seat. So we patiently stood in line, and when it was our turn I slid in the front and DH slid in beside me. On the other side a foreign couple slid in beside us, and the third person in their group tried to slide in as well. They kept chattering away, ingoring the CM who was telling them that the last person had to get out. You could only have 4 in the seat. She wouldn't get out, and wouldn't get out. But finally she did after a long wait that delayed the start of the ride for everyone.

Several years back I was in Universal with my then young DD. We had boarded a ride, and there was room for more people to get on. Well long and behold, a lady get's on with three other people. she kept elbowing me to move over, I could not go over anymore, she then took her foot and slamed it on mine. Let me tell you I got highly pissed. Highly pissed I said, I stood up and went off on the lady and smacked her real good. I told her if she even touched my DD she would not have to worry about getting on another ride. The CM waited while I took my DD and exit the ride. I told the CM that I would gladly turn myself in and leave the park. Turns out they had been having complaints about this group all day. However I was ever so shocked and had it. So DD and I waited for the next ride, CM was very nice, my DD was upset. When we got off the ride Universal Official approach us and ask if we where alright. I thought for sure I was to be arrested on vacation. Universal gave us a free extra day pass to come back and enjoy there parks. I thanked them and told them that was necessary, but the look on DD face said oh please mommy can we? You know the rest.

Oooh, if we are talking about rude guests, I have a group of people that I would like to add to the list of rude guests. My vote goes for the people who use their strollers as battering rams to get through the crowds! I'm starting to think I should wear some sort of protective device around my shins and ankles.

We went to Magic Kingdom on New Years eve one year, big mistake, I know!! Benji had braces on his legs and we got a pass to use our stroller as a wheelchair. When we went to get on Haunted mansion, these folks tried to muscle in ahead of us. I mean it was obvious that Benji had problems, and these folks were ready to push Benji right out of the way.
I'm interested in seeing how people respond to Benji getting special treatment on his wish trip this summer. I'm sure we're going to get the looks from some folks. I hope no one is terribly rude. I'd hate formy kids to have to see that.

I'm not too fond of the "battering ram stroller" club either. I've had a lot of experiences with rude people, but I would have to say my cake topper was a group of pre-teen - early teen girl cheerleaders (they were all in "cheer for whatever school" shirts) on spaceship earth. There was about 6 or 7 of them and they were flashing flashlights, yelling, screaming and throwing popcorn & candy all throughout the ride... That really upset me
