RSR single Rider line Question

So we are headed to DLR the last week of November. We are staying off site so we will not be able to use EE. My DS is 7 and tall enough to ride RSR so technically he is old enough to ride alone but I would never let him ride alone. However, for those that have been there, is it possible for our family to use the Single Rider Line. How often do the cars need more then one single rider? My thought was that either my DH or I would go in the same car as my DS so that if something happened on the ride like it broke down etc one of us would be with him. Do they allow that type of scenerio in the single rider line or is it even possible? One of us would need to be in the same car, not necessarily sitting next to each other, just in the same car for the "just in case" scenerio.

It is not allowed to request to be in the same car when you are riding SR. It may work out that way, but that isn't always the case.

Do they allow you to let people go behind you until there is an opening for two single riders in a car? how often do they need two single riders in a car?

Unfortunately, no. You won't be able to arrange it. You may get lucky and have two of you end up in the same car, but you cannot plan on it or ask the CMs to arrange it. The single-rider line is used to fill an empty seat. If you need to sit together (or just be in the same car), you will need to wait in the standby line or get fastpasses.

If there are three of you and you still want to use single rider, I would have your DH go in first, then your DS and then you. That way there would be someone still waiting in line with DS and someone waiting at the exit when he gets off.

How often they need 2 SR in 1 car has everything to do with the regular line and cannot be predicted. By being in the SR line you give up all special request privileges. It's called the SR line for a reason.

If you're really adamant about sitting together go through the stand-by line or get a FP. I really recommend getting a FP.

They try to fill the cars very quickly, so they use the SR line to quickly fill in empty seats. I have read elsewhere that the SR person may get put in a car with those using a GAC that exits in a different spot. So there is a possibility that your DS7 might exit at a different spot, even if you place him between you in line.

I had thought about doing this but my concern is if the ride breaks down when DS7 is on it. I hear it goes down frequently and that they even sometime have the riders walk out. I can't trust that he can do that by himself so we will not be considering the single rider line if this is the only way they will let us use it. Thanks for the imput.

In all honesty, it would be rude to expect them to do this. The single rider line is not a way to bypass the regular line. That is what fastpass is for. The single rider line is a way to allow people that would normally be in the regular line to fill in the empty seats. They need to be able to pull people quickly from the single rider line and add them to a queue. I'm pretty sure they would not appreciate you changing positions in line and slowing things down for them.
I don't want to sound snarky. I'm just giving you my honest answer.

I hope you are able to get a FP or utilize the standby line to enjoy the ride. But if you want to guarantee you will be in the same car as your DS, I would not try to do it single rider.

We've been pulled from the SR line to the accessible loading area before. In our case they pulled from the spot where the different lines are held waiting for the CM to fill the SR line as needed and mix the FP & standby lines together, so we got to bypass a chunk of the SR line, and we got to ride together. It was great!

If they pull from that spot you probably could decline to make sure everyone in your group could at least wait together, I wouldn't do it, but I think you could get away with it. I have also seen them hustle folks directly from the regular loading area down to the accessible area though.

As others have said, the SR line is used to fill in quickly. Last time we used SR I went in one car and DS and the person in line behind us went together in another car. There really wasn't time to shuffle around so we could ride together. It worked out well anyway, our cars raced each other and mine won. Woo Hoo!

Most of the time the SR line has worked out fine when we've used it. Sometimes we've gotten to ride in the same car together, or been in different cars but raced each other, sometimes not. DS did have a not so fabulous experience when he was put with a group of 5 who he said complained loudly about having a stanger in their car and shot him dirty looks the entire ride. Hopefully that doesn't happen often, but it is a possibility.

Bottom line: the SR line is not for anyone who is timid about waiting or riding alone.

Please do not try to "game" the single rider line :headache:

One CM is assigning guests into 8 rows of 3, and simply does not have time to listen to any requests. The CM will quickly call out the row numbers for the single riders to fill.

I have seen requests by parents in the single rider line to ride in the same car refused by the CM. The ensuing argument caused some seats to be unfilled.

If there is any concern that a child cannot handle being on the ride alone for a 10 minute hold (which is not uncommon) or unloading in the HA area (also not uncommon), then the single rider line should not be used.

It can't be expected, and can't be requested. And even if you think you see something like that happening (like you see a party of 4 being lined up for a ride vehicle), you never know what might happen before they call you up. I've watched standby people skip around and mess with the seating CMs instructions every time I've ridden.

Once, by total chance the 3 of us were about to all go on the same ride, when standby people started moving themselves around, causing one of us to be on a different ride from the other two. It was going to be a cool coincidence, but then it just reverted to how we expected things to go.

I had thought about doing this but my concern is if the ride breaks down when DS7 is on it. I hear it goes down frequently and that they even sometime have the riders walk out. If he cannot be trusted to be calm and listen to the CMs, then the SR line is not appropriate for him. Time and experience will help him get comfy, and you, too.

For example, my son will happily do SR for RSR, but has refused (even before I got a chance to refuse for him, LOL) for Screamin'. Walking through a ride like RSR is a bit different than being escorted from a hill on Screamin'! In fact I'm not 100% sure that I am mature enough for a serious ride stop on Screamin'. :)
