RSR is down...maybe for awhile

You just have to link your hotel reservation (using your confirmation number) to your Disney account and then it will allow you to make reservations using the hotel bucket. It will make it easy for you to switch days around, etc.
Okay, thank you. They're definitely already linked through my account and on my app and everything. We leave on Sunday, so honestly, I'm not sure whether it's worth trying to monkey with it at this point. We are vising DCA on Monday (a week from today) and I'd like to see how it goes and whether we feel we'd like to go back or not before making a decision I might not be able to reverse. If we decide we would prefer DL if possible, but then find out it's not possible, we will just return to DCA and enjoy the rides we liked the most again. I'm traveling with a 7-year-old who will have no qualms about riding Webslingers twice, and Soarin' seems like it likely has repeat value as well. I also didn't put Turtle Talk with Crush on our list, but it's been in the back of my mind.

Regardless, we haven't had a proper vacation in... 32... months. It would be worth the money if all we do is lay by the pool and watch the boy go down the waterslide for five days. It's all good :)

ETA: It may be irrelevant. I logged into my Disney account just to see if I could find where all this stuff "lives". Unless I'm looking at it wrong or the "hotel bucket" is hidden, the entire week of our vacation is showing as sold out at both parks. Truly, I think we are just going to have to do what my father calls "putting on our patient pants" and being happy we are on vacation in Disneyland and not at work or school, which is the other option. Thanks again to all for their help!

I would take a look now if you can. I have a hotel stay on the books so I just peeked for you and 6/6 and 6/7 are not available even through the hotel bucket. On 6/8 only DL is available through the hotel bucket. Why these days are booked, I have no idea! 🤷‍♀️ The entire rest of the month is open.

I would not count on being able to make it happen the day before or the day of, even at the hotel. I would make your plans to your best guess of what you want to do, then if you want to change them at the hotel you can try knowing it might not be possible.

Thanks, I think our posts crossed in the air. I just updated my post above, but everything looks pretty sold out and I'm too risk averse to take the chance that I lose BOTH parks in an attempt to game it somehow.

This is our first trip to Disneyland, so everything will be new and special and re-ridable. We will stick with our original plan and enjoy it to the greatest extent possible. With Pirates down, we freed up some extra time on our DL days anyway, and now with RSR down we've freed up some ILL money, so I think we will have both the time and funds for a second Rise trip, which is what the big boy (DH) and the little boy both really are after.

If anything

if anything looks sold out (other than 6/6 and 6/7), then you are not looking at the hotel bucket.

Here is the link to all the buckets:

You need to put that on your list! I am an adult, and I think it is one of the most incredible things in Disneyland. As a fully grown adult I was watching it thinking "This is amazing! How is this possible? How is this happening? How does this work?" In the same building is Animation Academy, where you learn to draw a Disney character step by step, which may appeal to your family or not. Also in the same building is Sorcer's Workshop, which has zoetropes you can spin to make animation happen.

Removed for outdated advice 😬

Awesome. Thanks! I think with RSR down, or even if it comes back up (maybe?? testing happening??), we will try to make it over there. I wasn't sure it would be a priority for my tiny thrill seeker, but that doesn't mean he won't still enjoy it!

I think your approach makes sense. I am similarly risk adverse and would likely do the same. One thing I would suggest is seeing how your first day goes and determine if upgrading to hoppers would be beneficial for more flexibility. As a first-time visitor you may need to get your barrings straight in order to determine that. I know you mentioned that you are a one-park type of person, and with a little one it's a slightly different touring plan, but may change your mind once you're there. As you said, either way it'll be a magical trip!
I would just like to point out (for other people) that it's extremely difficult to upgrade to park hoppers now if you don't already have them (and your reservations) booked before your trip. In the past you could easily decide to do this at the resort, but now, with reservations required, it's not so easy. Staying at a resort hotel may help, but may not. If there aren't any reservations available for hopper tickets, you can't upgrade.

Well forget what I said then! It's been a while since we have visited and I'm clearly stuck in the past 😅

We're here now and have changed reservations around a lot and only could have done it because of staying at the Grand.

DCA has been a real hot mess everyday without RSR- to the point I don't even want to go there 😆
I'm glad you were able to change. I use Little Mermaid as my barometer for DCA. I just checked wait times, 30 minutes 😮, noooo thank you.

Lightning Lane is pretty useless too depending because seems like everyone goes to 1-2 attractions at once. I don't know what's up with Goofy's (just not built for that demand?) but everytime we've tried to redeem a LL the return line looks as long as the standby and I just don't want to ride it bad enough to wait that long. Crazy how much DCA depends on Cars- the park is definitely out of whack!

Don't get me wrong, it's doable but we come often enough that I see a line like that for something like Goofys or Ariel that's usually more mellow and go 'Nahhhhh, next time!'

Just to clarify, Turtle Talk with Crush is in DCA, in case that wasn't clear from my original post. If you are looking for things to do in DCA, I highly recommend Turtle Talk with Crush and the other things in the same building.

Hopefully the testing will reveal that the problem was with the affected car and that it isn’t more widespread (fingers crossed). I can’t imagine Disney would be happy to have the ride closed for any part of the busy summer season. Bummed to hear it is having such a negative impact on the rest of DCA.

We had a nightmare day, back in the FP era at MK.

BTMRR down for refurb
Little Mermaid down extended
PP down
then Space went down….

When space finally came back, the FP line went all the way to People mover…. they actually were still letting standby in at the same rate as normal….and the FP line just got longer and longer….

Eventually enough guest complained that the shut down standby to get through the FP line.
