We are going to DCA on Sun, Jul 31. It's an EMH day there, but we are not staying on-site. Any idea what time (guesstimate) RSR will run out of FPs? I went ahead and paid for Ride Max, and it's suggesting that we ride RSR 1st, then get a FP for it as soon as we get off the ride (9ish am) for an 8pm return time. I'm just nervous that by 9am, the FPs might be all gone on an EMH day.
Ps- this is our first DL visit, so I have no idea how fast the FPs run out.

The best way to know how the trends are for specific FP's is to follow the Disneyland app. Or call "Ask Otto".
This will give you an idea of the current flow of FP's

Ive been watching the Disney app on and off for the last few weeks as I also want an 8pm or so return time. Ive noticed that typically around 12:00 the fast passes are for that timeframe. They always have run out by 2 for the day.

No FPs during EMH....distribution starts at park opening. Yes, download the (free) Disneyland app and you can see wait times and FP times anytime.

We got fast passes for RSR this last Saturday & Tuesday. We went at around 11:15 on Saturday with a return time between 7:30 - 8:30 and around 11:45 am on Tuesday with return time between 7:15 and 8:15. Getting close... I think we checked back around 2:30 and they were all gone. Not sure the exact time they maxed out but sometime before that. Based on our experience 9am seems like you would be fine.

I don't think you'll have trouble getting a RSR FP at 9AM, just one hour after park opening. BUT I disagree with RideMax telling you to ride RSR first thing on an EMH morning. The queue will already be long. Personally I would send some to get a FP for RSR at opening while heading to Toy Story. Then as soon as your RSR FP window opens (probably between 9 and 10 if you get the first FP quickly) get the second FP for the evening time. The only downside is you won't be able to get any more FP until 2 hours after you pull that second RSR FP. But that's not a big deal early in the morning and is way better than waiting in an already hour long line for RSR and then having to wait in a long line for Toy Story too.

We picked up RSR FP's this past Mon and Tues, each time after 11 A.M. so we could ride in the evening. FP's seem to run out between 11:30 and noon, although Tuesday they were still available after 12 noon. BTW, the single rider line is a pretty good option even if you have no FP's.

If Ridemax is telling you to ride RSR first thing just re-run your plan. That doesn't make sense and goes against what RideMax is about. I'm thinking you've ran several plans and RideMax is simply changing things up to try and please you.

RideMax typically suggest that you ONLY ride "slow-loading" rides that "do not" offer fast pass first thing (ie. in CA that would be Toy Story Mania, in DL it would be Peter Pan, Dumbo, Autopia and Astro Orbiter). If a slow-loading ride also features FP's then you ALWAYS get FP's for that ride.

Can you ride single rider? We didn't get a single FP for RSR and on Tuesday and Wednesday this past week - mid-day the single rider line was a 15-20 min each time. Now - we did see it SUPER long late on Wednesday (maybe 8 pm?). We rode it twice each day.

We went this past Wednesday - an EMH morning. Now - they let non-resort guests in a half hour early that day - but we rode TSM twice when they let us in and then headed to RSR for single rider - and waited just 15 minutes. Interestingly - we were headed to RSR still before regular park opening time - and the FP line for RSR was GIGANTIC.

Toy Story Midway Mania should be the first attraction that you experience since there is no FP for it.
When to get RSR FP depends on how many times you want to ride it. If you want a chance to ride twice then you need to get a FP first thing in the morning and then grab the second FP before you use the first RSR FP. The problem with doing this is that you may miss out on using FP for the other attractions.
To be safe you should get a RSR FP by 1130am, it usually sells out around that time.

I would recommend....
Soarin FP first when the park opens then take Grizzly River trail towards Toy Story Midway Mania and ride it.
Then Screamin, Fun Wheel, and Goofy. Symphony Swings and Mermaid can wait for later as those attractions do not have the longest waits.
Then grab World of Color FP if you want to see that show, then ride Grizzly with no FP, grab a Frozen Show FP, then a RSR FP before you use the Soarin FP.
Then next FP you get after the 2 hour window should be Tower of Terror.

Is this the same strategy you would use on a non-EMH day?

Just curious what time you expect a Soarin FP to be for if they get it right at opening. I would think it would be within an hour. I like your plan, but that seems like a lot to get accomplished in an hour.

We like to take the Grizzly River trail to Toy Story too and usually grab a FP for RSR afterwards.

Soarin FP would be 845-945
You would finish PP attractions listed at around 915
Gives you 30 minutes for Grizzly. Grizzly will be a walk on then grab FPs listed.
If you're cutting it close save Grizzly for after Soarin.
Just try to be in line for Grizzly before 1015am.

One more thing... There are free lockers near Grizzly behind the bear statue. Great for saving things from getting wet.

I love all the suggestions! Coming up with a ride lineup is stressing me out. I feel like 1 wrong move and we'll find ourselves with screwed up FP times and standing in crazy long lines. Lol My boys are going to want ride as many rides as possible, but I hate to feel like we are on a strict schedule. I guess as long as we're having a magical time, it'll be ok if we miss some of the smaller things. Since they are young (6 and 9), we will also need to take a couple hours to "recharge" at the hotel during mid-afternoon. Otherwise, it won't matter what we try to do in the evening if we have 2 cranky, arguing, whining boys. Lol
And to think, at first I was considering doing both parks in 1 day. Ha! :scared:

I wondered how accurate the app was w FPs. I read in other threads that many times the app will say that a ride is out of FPs, but when you get to the machine at the park, there are still plenty. Good to know that I can pretty much rely on the app!

We probably won't do single ride lines. My kids are 6 and 9, and the hubs and I definitely want to experience everything with them.

We love to ride RSR when it's dark outside. We will wait and return to collect a FP once the timing is right.
It's a completely different (and awesome) experience when everything is lit up. Cars Land is one of the best areas of the park at night.

I had no idea that the app showed FP distribution time! That is incredible!! I just took a look, RSR is out, HSM has 8:40-9:40 return times. This is crazy incredibly helpful, I'm so glad I saw your post!! :wizard:
