RSG Skyauction how does it work?

My husband used Skyauciton for our trip this summer and we were very happy with it. I know there are RSG auctions but I cannot figure out what the heck they are. I read fyi page but can someone explain it to me? It always says that you can choose from like 3,000 properties but is this one of those things where you tell them the dates and they give you the place? Kind of like Priceline?
