RPR vs PBH

My family of 5 (kids 12, 9, 8 when we go) is looking at both Royal Pacific and Portofino Bay. I like both resorts a lot! My deciding factor seems to be the closeness to the parks and the size of the rooms. Are the rooms at RPR to small for my family? I like how close this resort is to the parks. PBH would be my first choice, but the walk seems a lot further when we only have 2 days and we are trying to get to the parks early. We are going the weekend before Thanksgiving 2014. This will be our first visit to Universal and this site has been great in helping me plan my trip. Thank you for any insight you can give me!!!

PBH is farther than RPR, but if you are walking, it is maybe a difference of 5 minutes. If you take the water shuttle, the difference is negligible. With kids those ages, they will have plenty of energy for the walk to the park, and will probably be quicker than Mom and Dad! With that many kids, I would do PBH. And they have a slide at the pool at PBH too!

if you plan to spend your days just at the parks and not in the room, you could get by with rph.

but, you will have more room for all of you if you stay at pbh.

if you bring an air mattress or make a pallet on the floor for one of the kids to sleep on, pbh would give you ample space to still move around in the room.

I want to stay at PBH, but it is definitely the furthest away. I also really like the walk from the RPR. One big issue for us is the lack of laundry machines at PBH. We always do 1 or 2 loads, and having to walk over to HRH to do laundry just seems like a complete pain in the neck.

Thanks for the info regarding distance. I think we may end up doing PBH. I also do laundry on vacation. I wasn't aware PBH didn't have a laundry facility. I'll have to take that into account. Thanks for the help!

You should also consider getting a deluxe room at the HRH. It is definitely larger and has a full pullout as well as two queens.

We did a deluxe at PBH with three kids 16, 13, 11 and did fine. The pullout bed fit the littlest. The bathroom was super-big. The extra walking distance was not a big deal after logging many miles in parks. What's another quarter mile? :rotfl:

We love Portofino Bay!! The rooms are huge, the resort gorgeous and the walk is not that much further

I am trying to narrow it down, so we eliminated HRH. Everyone seems to really like it, but the atmosphere at RPR and PBH are more our style. We enjoy the resort as much as the parks, so the style of the resort is important. Thanks for the info though!

I just booked the PBH---did NOT know about the no laundry facilities? How far of a walk is it from PBH to HR? We'll be there for 10 nights, so that will be at least a couple loads of laundry!

Its not far and since they allow ( and encourage POOL hopping) , we would walk over I would go do laundry and the family swam at HRH pool..It is a fun pool too !
