My father was looking into staying at RPR and was wondering what the resort/parking fee was. He was told by a co-worker that they were charged a $14 parking fee and on top of that a separate $20 resort fee. Is that right? When we stayed there in '07 there was just a $12 parking/resort fee.

Never been charged a resort fee, but parking is now $15 self parking or $22 for valet

There is no resort fee. There is an internet fee. Maybe that's what they were talking about.

Is the valet fee waived or lowered for handicapped people like it is at WDW resorts?

i never did understand the parking fee at universal, whether it be a resort or theme park, it should be free like disney. jmo

if you have handicap plates or the placard, the self parking fee is waived for resort guests. Valet parking fee is not waived.

Disney factors the parking fee into EVERY room. So whether or not you have a car you are charged a parking fee. This is one reason why the deluxe Disney hotels are so much more expensive than the deluxe Univeral hotels.

Loews only charges you for parking if you actually use it. I prefer that system.

Disneyland charges a resort fee which includes your parking fee. However, you MUST pay the resort fee.

:thumbsup2 It is never free!

I also prefer the way Universal breaks it out so you only pay it when you have a car. I hate subsidizing other people's parking in my room fee like I have to at Disney.

Disney charges for parking in the lots for the theme park. It has never been free parking there.

What is it now, $15 a day?

At WDW you do pay for parking at the theme parks unless you are either a resort guest or an annual passholder.

if you have handicap plates or the placard, the self parking fee is waived for resort guests. Valet parking fee is not waived.

Thanks! Do you know if we can just pay the difference between self and valet parking and use valet? I read something about self park being across the street from the resort and that doesn't seem too handicap friendly

I just spoke to valet at RPR - they said no difference for HP tags or plates - you still pay the fees.

Now Disney waives fees for HP

That is incorrect.

I have the handicap placard and the fees are waived.

You have to tell the TM at the desk lobby when you check out and the parking fees are removed from your bill.

They do this for everyone at the hotels.

Now if you are talking about the valet parking, that is a different issue.

I do not know if valet parking is waived.
I know it isn't at HRH for valet with hp tags.

Parking at the hotels are on the resort premises.
Which hotel are you referring to when you say self parking is across the street from the resort?

I have had cars at RPH and HRH and parked in the lot at the hotel site.
For PBH, they do have a garage.

I really don't know if you can pay the difference between self and valet parking for hp. I doubt it but then, I have not used valet parking in my situation. I bet if you called and talked to the valet/bell hops at the hotel, you would get a firm answer.

I specifically asked if the 15 was waived for HP and they said, NO.

You pay either the 15 for self or the 22 for valet that none of these fess are waived because you have a HP tag or placard.

When I say I just talked to them to confirm I mean within the last 15 minutes.

You were given incorrect information.

"All states have agreed to honor the handicapped parking permits from other states and honor them the same as if they were issued in that state. The technical name for this is reciprocity, and Florida has reciprocity agreements with all other states in the US."

You park in a marked handicap spot, there are no fees.

You can check the details out on the Disability forums on the Dis.

Thanks, I have an HP placard. So I am thrilled if I can get them waived.

thank you. You're right, Disney does waive the valet fees at the deluxe resorts. We've never been to Universal so I wasn't sure if they would have a similar policy.

We're planning to stay at Royal Pacific. I've been reading up on RP/Universal so much lately that I don't remember what I've read where. If parking is nearby it's not such a big deal and I suppose I could always have my husband drop me off at the entrance and go and park.

I should probably just plan on calling a week before we leave

You will probably have a parking charge on your check out statement.
Don't be alarmed as this always happens to me also.

You tell them that you have a placard and parked in a designated Handicap parking spot.

They will take off the parking charges.

There is no way the Loew's hotels want to deal with legalities in failing to abide by the Disability Act.

When you check in, tell the TM that you have handicap plates or the hc placard and make sure they list it on your files.

When you check out and if the parking charge is on your bill, tell the TM to look at your check in notes. Once they see you have the HC card/plates, they will immediately remove the charge.

I know the parking lot at RPH can fill up on some days.
If all the designated handicap parking is full, leave your car outside of the entrance. Go to the front desk or concierge desk and tell them the hc spots are full and you need one.

If you talk to a front desk manager and explain the situation, you quite possibly will get free valet parking for that day.
I'm not saying you will get free valet parking, but you'll never know unless you request it.

I did read in one trip report that during the mid summer, the RPH was full on 2 days. They, the valet employees, did take the cars to another area and the owner was not charged for that valet parking.

The parking lot at RPH is large.
If you have the HP card or plates, use them.

Always talk to the front end manager at the hotel if you have issues over parking. Such as, no HC places available, would need free valet as someone in your group has mobility issues, etc.

I found that when I did use a rental car, the only times I left the resort parking was maybe one time during the trip.
Did a run to a local store and had a dinner out that evening.

The park is small and the hotels are on the edge of the parks.
You can walk or take the water taxi to get to the parks. You don't have to drive to the parks.

Thanks macraven. We will definitely use the handicapped tags. We are driving down so we'll definitely have the car with us since we visit family on the gulf coast and then head up to Orlando (have to recuperate after visiting family ;))

We will be there for probably 8 days so I anticipate that we will leave a few times- thinking of taking the kids to Sea World, and then to visit a few restaurants and shops that we don't have at home in CT.
