Hi all... have been reading here the past couple weeks and am very grateful for all the info you all have given.

I am taking the wife and 2 kids to universal and ioa August 16-20. We are going to be going to the parks for 3 days during that time. I can't wait!!! :)

My question is this: How hard is it to leave the parking area at rpr, and go out to eat at a local restaurant offsite? I was thinking we would do this for dinner after we are done at the parks.

Was just wondering if this is a decent idea to save a bit of dough, or is it to much of a hassle?

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

if you have a car, its ok as I'Drive is quite close. but i think the places at Citywalk are not that expensive as with other restaurants. they also have a Panda Express which is counter service and food is good.
there is other places close to Universal ,near Major Blvd & S Kirkman which you could walk to, and quite a few places there to eat

Ok thanks Robert thats the kind of information I needed. I have not been to Universal before so am just extremely excited about going and giving the kids a nice vacation before they go back to school. We are getting so close... but it still seems so far away... :) Actually it is... driving from central Texas with a stop along the way to visit my Dad for a couple days.

Thanks again...

There are some very reasonable places to eat onsite. I recommend Sal's at Portofino Bay Hotel (delicious pizza at a normal price). Margaritaville's Volcano Nachos are HUGE and would probably feed the 4 of you for lunch (maybe add chicken or something). There is a Burger King in Citywalk as well as Panda Express.

We only left to eat offsite one night since we were paying for everyone :) and we were trying to save we decided to go to a buffett :)

Other than that the rest of the trip without the huge family hanging around was much easier to just get something to eat at CityWalk or one of the resort resturants.

the Pizza at Sal's is wonderful and the price was not that bad for a large pizza. We headed over to PBH hotel to hang out at their pool one day and have pizza :)
