Okay we arrived at 1pmish to RPR checked in and room was not ready - no biggy headed over to IOA - with room keys in hand which gave us FOTL access we headed straight to The Incrdible Hulk! - less than 10 minutes later we were on the ride! - We then made our way around the park towards spider man (awesome ride) I don't know about you but some how rides seem sooo much better when your wait time is so little! we hit all the major rides and ended up on the Duelling Dragons for 1 ride each on fire and ice - DD11 Loves Fire - But DH and I are Ice fans. and in Seussville - the cat in the hat! I love this ride - it was DD favorite book when she was a wee bit younger. - okay its now 4pm - and we head over to US - just to hit a few rides/attractions.

WE ist did Shrek 4D - I love it all from preshow to ending!

Then DD drags us over to The Mummy - she could ride this ride all day - but 2x's in a row when you're tired(travel day you know) was enough.

Next back to the future and men in black - WE ALL LOVE MIB!! although I must admit I am competitive and like our team to win!

Jaws anyone? okay - I know folks have been posting that they are cutting down on gas and so the firey parts aren't as well firey but I truly did not notice - to me same ride as always -

We are now tired and hungry - we left our house in MA at 5am and now its 7pm - time to head on over to MArgarietivilles!!! As always it was a perfect way to end our 1st day - DH got crabcakes - I have had these before and as DH will agree they are perfect! DD had a grilled cheese and fries and I had - what else a "CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE" with mushrooms and a tomato relish done to perfection - it was by far the best cheeseburger I have ever had in my life - no it really was! - the stilt walkers found out that DD Bday was the reason we were on this trip and made her a cool balloon twisted hat - while of course as she says "EMBARESSING HER" by yelling out Happy Birthday a few times" - and the waitress brought her out a chocolate ice cream w/chcolate sauce and whipped cream MMMM! -

what a perfect end to a perfect day! back to the resort - we hade rm 1510? anyways it was a pool facing room in tower one on the 5th floor w/2 queen beds - a little smaller than the PBH but i loved the decor!

day 2 - since we had done alot of the parks already - thanks to FOTL - have I mentioned how much I like this? - We decided to head out to the Belz outlets and hit the WDW and US outlet stores - we found MANY DEALS especially at the disney outlets - shirts that would run you $22-25 @ the parks only $6.99!!! and PJ's costing$34 only 12.99!!

At the US store they had a deal buy one hat at the already discounted price get a 2nd hat of equal or lesser value for 1 cent! - needless to say we got a couple of hats.

well after shopping - I LOVE TO SHOP - back to the parks ist US - saw Animal Planet live, did the Mummy and allthe other major attractions - then head over to IOA DD loves this park so we went on everything except the popeye ride (a little chilly today even for us Northerners) - - we then left and ate at NBA - it was good but since our trip in July i felt it had slipped in the quality of their food alittle.

Okay last day at US/IOA - we started out at IOA knowing we wanted to see the mardi gras parade at UA that night - did the usual rides had lunch at Confisco grille - VERY YUMMY! then over to US - made our way counter clockwise around the park - when we got to Earthquake - DH had to take care of business and while DD and i waited outside a US employee with a clipboard was walking around and asked the people behind were we were standing if they were going to be staying for Mardi Gras - they sais NO. At the time DH had rejoined us and had over heard the lady speaking with the other family as she walked towards us my DH not a shy man at all - said we are staying for Mardi Gras and then she asked"would you like to ride on one of our floats" Can I just say YES! never came out of anyof our mouths faster than at that moment! - well she took our names and told us to be at the FF courtyard at 7pm - then we igned in when we got there after a few minutes - did I mention she gave us these wrist bands to wear - anyways after all riders were signed in we were assigned a float - we got The Diamond float - which had a Marilyn Monroe look alike and the "Diamond Lady" riding on it - along with us and 5 other folks - 1st you had to sign a release of responsibility and wave your right to compensation if you were used in any print ads or TV ads BLAH BLAH BLAH. Then onto the float you put this thick belt around your waist and it is attached to a thick cable and bolted to the floor of the float - there must have been 3,000+ beads and 4 buckets of coins - and the goal was to have NO BEADS at the end of the parade(17minute route) yet not to run out 1/2 way through! But NO PRESSURE!?

Anyways - you are told to throw on strand of beads at a time underhanded into the SCREAMING CROWD! I must say I was a bit nervous but once it got on its way - and all the people screaming at you Begging for beads and coins - you really get into it! - Did I mention the diamond float had a bubble machine that made THOUSANDS OF BUBBLES that was at the front of the float and blew all the bubles into your face? If you end up on this float just look out towards the side you are on and not up towards the front as bubbles in the eyes sting! THEY DO WARN YOU OF THIS - - This was by far the BEST EVER PART OF ANY VACATION WE HAVE EVER BEEN ON!!! - being on a float was "AVACATION FROM THE ORDINARY" and if you get asked to be on the float DO IT!!!!!!!!!! DD11 Loved it she has tons of beads and coins and the smile on her face during the parade was PRICELESS!!!!

Okay - any ?'s comments etc just ask

I am going to write the WDW half of this vacation on the trip report board - but not today as the real world calls and I have to go to work!

Thanks for reading

Wow, Sue!! What FUN! :cool1:
Your family sounds like mine, we know what we like and we have fun doing it! I would've just DIED to be on the float!

We'll be there the end of the month and we'll be looking for the people with the clipboards!
:cheer2:

It sounds like you guys had such a great time! I love Margaritaville as well...great place. :) I bet being on the float was really a lot of fun. Thank you so much for your trip report!

Wow! That sure sounds like fun. I have never been there during the mardi gras, one of these times I will have to try. Great report!

Question.. I don't know how interested you were in watching the concert.. but after the parade was over, did you just have to stand in the back of the concert area since everyone had been waiting for a while? Or were you given any kind of special seating?

Nerdboyrockstar

no special seating or viewing area was offered - we were at the back of the concert area

Sounds great! We plan on staying at the RPH when we go in August. Do you mind a couple of questions?

Did you do conceirge level?
Is it worth the extra $ to get a water view room?
Any advice for newbies??????

Thanks so much!!!

Hi Dislifer,

No problem to anwering a few ?'s

We did not do conceirge level

I have a loews gold card and used at the time a winterwonderloews rate for the standard room then with the loews gold card got a free upgrade to the water/pool view room - can't really tell you if its worth it - I have never stayed at the RPH before this visit so I have nothing to compare it to.

As far as advice for a newbie - I kinda still am too. I Think your on the right track though - staying onsite is the best advice I could give anyone! FOTL is priceless and all three hotels are wonderful!

Enjoy your trip

Thanks! :sunny: I just got a Loews card, so when I go to RPH it will be the first time I use it so I don't know if I'll be able to get an upgrade.
:wave2:

Congrats on getting on the float!

We have tried for years to get on the float. The Annual Passholders are supposed to get a shot at it but all I got from them was this email:

Thank you for entering the Passholder Mardi Gras Float contest; if you are chosen you will be contacted by one of our representatives prior to the date. Thanks again!!!
Truly,
Annual Passholder Department

I'll have to send them this "don't call us, we'll call you" email when they ask me to renew.

What date did you ride?

Hi Sue, Glad you had a great trip. One thing-the "coins" are called doubloons. We live in Mardi Gras country and the doubloons are more prized the the beads! It is a kick riding on a float. What a great memory to have of your vacation!!!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.
