We are debating between the royal rooms or standard rooms at port orleans riverside. We have a three year old little girl and 8 year old little boy. The price difference is about 360 dollars for 8 nights. Is it worth it? Are the rooms pretty cool?

We loved staying there. The beds are so cool with the "fireworks". I felt like the room was worth the upgrade for the theming and because they are located close to the bus stop and main house.

The alligator bayou rooms (standard) have a 3rd bed that pulls down from above the bench. That may come in handy with 2 kids.

The rooms are very cool. Nice to do once, for sure. Is it worth the extra $$$? Maybe not, but many people love it, so I guess it's an example of it's worth it for some but not for others.

The little girl will probably love it. Not so sure about the boy. You can look at pics online to get an idea od how your family will like it. At the end of the day, it's just extra theming. The basic room is the same. (But, hey, extra theming in Disney is really something!)

Stayed in one the the Royal guest rooms last year. We all loved the theme, pictures on the walls, and the headboard with the fireworks was awesome. If you can afford, i would stay in same rooms again. Close walks to pools, bus stops, and main areas.

I'm in the same boat. I think it would be a nice first impression upon entering, but the novelty would quickly wear off. In a few days you have open suitcases with clothes strewn about. Water bottles, snakes, merchandise....it then just becomes a "regular" room.

Snakes....lol, need to remember to request no ground level!

I think I'm going to keep the royal room. I have changed resorts 4 times, I just need to keep it and be happy about it. Not sure why I am having so much trouble making decisions this trip.

The Royal rooms are A MAZING!! We love POR!! This stepped it up a notch for us!! Our kids were mesmerized !! You will not regret this decision!! The location to the main bldg isn't bad either!!!

We are staying in a Royal Room in September and I can't wait! My 6 year old daughter will love the theming and I will too quite frankly. The up charge for the royal room was worth it to me for the theming but also because I am guaranteed a room in the mansions section instead of the alligator bayou section. I am not really crazy about the theming in the AB section.

We're checking into a "Royal" room in 1 week (yea!). Our daughters (now 14 and 12) were big Princess fans when they were younger, but my wife and I think they'll still get a kick out of the added decor. BTW...our daughters don't know we have a Royal Room and we're looking forward to surprising them with this little bit of extra magic!

We love POR!

We stayed in a Royal room last year when DS was 6 and DD was 2 and they both loved the room! All the little touches are beautiful and every night they had to light up the fireworks in the beds. I was very happy that I spent the extra money just because of how happy my kids were and how much that extra magic lit up their eyes!

We really debated going Royal Rooms or Alligator Bayou -- some of my kids favorite memories are actually of the AB rooms. But, decided to bump it up to the Royal rooms for this trip. Everything I've heard from those who have stayed is that it feels more like a Deluxe room. We can't wait!

So happy to read so many positive reviews on the Royal Rooms at POR! I cannot wait to stay in one in November. My niece is going to love it... her first trip is going to be amazing!

We're checking in 3 weeks from today and can't wait! The rooms look just beautiful and we are surprising my niece. She turns 16 this week and has only been to Pop, but I'm sure will love the RR so much. If for some crazy reason she doesn't, I know my mom and I will and my H will love the extra space.

We stayed in a Royal Room last October with an 8 year old DS and 3 yr old DD. They LOVED the room especially the fireworks on the head board!!!! We stayed ground level..no snakes :cool1:

We stayed in the mansions of POR in 2010 - no Royal Rooms there yet...our view was of a parking lot and when our family of 5 (5th was under 3 at the time) got over the size of the room (used to 3 bedroom condos with full kitchen 2 baths and washer/dryer on vacations) we LOVED it!

The setting is so beautiful there..just love it!

Currently deciding what to book for FAll 2014 trip - we're now family of 6 and 6th will be under 3 at time of travel (just makes it). So we could squeeze into one deluxe room...but be SQUEEZED in. Or considering 2 connecting Royal Rooms - (first 3 are girls!) - looking also at renting DVC points (Would love the washer/dryer)
I just keep coming back to POR - we'll have 4 kids 10 and under. The food court was such a hit with them at 2, 4, and 6 - it's really what's swaying me to POR over trying a new spot. It's nice to be familiar and know there's food they'll eat right on site.

We chose to do 2 RR for our crew -- but you might want to double check before making your decision. I know that several years ago when we were in the Mansions and when we were in Aligator Bayou we had connecting rooms. We requested connecting rooms this time too. But, we just rec'd an e-mail from our TA letting us know that she had just been informed that none of the RR's were connecting rooms. It's not an issue for us bec our youngest is 10 and then we have teens that are going, but w/ your kiddos ages I'd double check.

You received bad information from your TA. There most definitely are connecting Royal Rooms.

Well, that's good and bad. I'm glad they have connecting rooms - sorry though that she obviously had rec'd incorrect info. She was surprised by the info so wanted to let us know since we'd booked about 3 weeks ago and another TA had just shared that info w/ her. I wonder if it matters about the location? We are in the River view rooms.
