Has anyone stayed at Royal Plaza lately? We have an executive suite booked for August, now DH is coming for part of the time (I have 8 nights booked, he'll be there for 3). I just read some nasty reviews on tripadvisor, but I do know that more disappointed folks and those that simply can never be pleased post there. I see now that it's got some tub/shower combo, although a cheaper room has separate tub and shower (so two can be bathing at the same time to save a few minutes).
I'd love to hear if anyone has a comment on a recent stay there. I understand they did away with valet parking maybe - which isn't a big concern.
Do they have bellmen? I will need help as we'll stop at the super walmart or publix on the way from the airport, so we'll have a couple cases of water as well as snacks/soy milk/wine with us. I'd like to know that they'll have someone to take it all to the room for me, as DH comes later in the trip.
TIA!

I'm staying there soon in a tower room. Since no one is answering, maybe you can call them directly to ask about bellmen etc....

I just spent a night there in January and I thought it was quite a nice hotel actually. Yes, they do have bellmen, we just grabbed a luggage cart and took it up ourselves, the lobby / checkin area seemed to be somewhat chaotic. Our room was newly remodeled and we thought it was quite nice actually, albeit still a hotel room with 1 bathroom and 2 beds (which was NOT big enough for 4 adult males, even for 1 night, so we checked in and quickly got a 2nd room).

Anyhow, I think some of those reviews may have been from before it was remodeled, it's a pretty nice place now actually! The restaurants and bar areas were nice too, we never made it to the pool as we checked out and into our own home the next day.

We stayed in an executive suite last Dec. and loved it. We are also considering returning for a few night before our next cruise.

Now understand we are only 2 people so bathroom size not a big deal and the combo tub well i have the same deal at home so no problem.

Now with the above said the bedroom can be tight for space and the internet was slow and didn't work alot of the time.

The closet was very tiny and there is only one but good drawer space.

If you have any questions fill free to PM me.

We were there from June 19th - June 23rd. We were booked for a deluxe tower room.

I'd gotten a call several days before our reservation to tell us they were overbooked and I would be staying at the Sheraton Safari. I wasn't happy since I booked quite a while ago. The woman made it sound like I would have no choice no matter what time I showed up in the morning. I said, so no one in the hotel will be checking out that day? I have no chance of staying there at all. She said that was correct.. I have no chance of staying there.
I called Bookit.com and they put me on hold as they called HRP. The woman came back on the line and said that I will not be moved, and I will get the room I was promised.

So I showed up nice and early just in case (I was already in Orlando for the past week). No one met my car at the door. I knew there was no valet parking, which I would usually only use the first day anyway. But I saw no bellmen. Not a big deal. I left the luggage in the car anyway while I went to check in. I had no problems checking in, and the front desk cleck, LaToya, even gave me a choice of rooms. The highest room she had was on the 9th floor. That was fine. None of the rooms were ready yet anyway (it was only 8am).

So we went and enjoyed the day and came back at 3:30. No one met the car. DD and I got the luggage out fine ourselves. No valet, but the valet parking area is directly accross from the main entrance, and you are allowed to park there. Very convenient.
I got Luis at the front desk, also very nice. I told him how I'd taken the highest room available since my dd liked that, me not so much. He laughed and said he had one on the 15th floor.. a premier tower, would I like that? Umm.. yea! So we had an upgrade. A room with a jacuzzi.
Not sure what the overbooked thing was. They didn't seem to be putting us in the only room available. There was even a room on the top floor.. but facing the back and we wanted to be facing the other way. We could see Wishes from our window, and a great view of DTD too.

The room was nice. I felt the bathroom could have been cleaner. It was very new, but the grout in the tiles was noticeably greyed... where under the vanity area it was bright white. Some dots on the ceiling above the shower looked like the start of mold. It was a big bathroom though! Shower and jacuzzi were separate. Bath & Body Works products were nice.. but OH SO TINY! DD and I used a full bottle for each of us! We both have very long thick hair. Coconut Lime Verbana & Warm Vanilla Sugar scents. Both nice.. though not my fave :)
The room was big too. We had a pull out couch though we didn't need it. It was nice to have though.
Housekeeping was ok. We needed more towels I guess apparent from the fact we used them all, and were left more towels the next day. They didn't vacuum much. We went to Goofy's Candy shop the first night and my dd got mini m&ms on the carpet. I picked up most of them, but the couple I missed under the table and by the balcony were still there when we left 4 days later. Also sand from the beach was still there.

We didn't like the breakfast buffet. The food was mediocre. DD was free, but she would only eat the cereal and mini bagel. It was enough for her. I wouldn't eat much of it, the bacon was floppy, the sausages greasy (even for sausages).. the scrambled eggs were ok. The make your own waffle machine was broken. For the price, we ate out afterwards.
The counter service was friendly, and average price for the area. I mostly got my coffee in the morning there on the way out. And once pizza later one night.
The pool is warm, but small. There were a lot of kids, loud, and some a bit wild. No life guard to keep control. No diving board or slide. Even my water rat daughter got board there.

If we were completely unpacking.. we would have never had enough storage. But since we were only staying 4 nights, we didn't unpack everything.

We are currently at the Beach Club, club level. Our room now could almost fit in the bathroom of the HRP..lol! And our bathroom here is TINY as all WDW bathrooms are.. but it's Disney, and we'll be back!

Since we only paid $74.25 per night (don't forget the $8 + taxes a night also) for the HRP, we were happy with it. If I got that price or close to it again.. I would go back! Their rack rate of $189?! NO WAY!

Hope you enjoy your stay there :)

Thanks for the review-we are considering switching our BC std room for the Hotel Royal Plaza - what type of room would you recommend? We were considering the exec suite too.

That's quite a switch.

You can't compare the two places. BC is a resort.. and a beautiful one too! It has many amenities, and conveniences the HRP does not have. I heard the bus service from HRP was horrible from a woman I spoke with at the pool area of HRP. The pool itself is tiny, and comparing it to the almost mini-water park of the BC is impossible.
Not to mention the fact that BC is just plain gorgeous!

I would stay at the HRP if the price was cheap enough again.. but not for a full vacation stay. I stayed off property for some of our stay so we could afford to stay on disney property for some of it too. We got the upsell rate for BC from POFR... then we got upgraded to Club level... lucky us!!
I didn't love my stay at HRP.. but it was the right price and it was only for 4 nights. I wouldn't make an extended stay and I don't highly recommend it.
Our first 6 nights were at the Peabody hotel.. which I would HIGH & ENTHUSIASTICALLY recommend. I got a price of $87 a night from Hotwire, and I considering how nice the place is, I was jumping up and down on how good the price was!. The 23rd floor, with and awesome view of Sea Worlds fireworks to the slight left.... and WDW (probably Wishes since it was about 10pm) to the slight right. A beautful room with perfect service!

This is our first stay at the Beach Club and I'm impressed. I love it here, and I mean the whole place, not only the Club level (though certainly nothing to complain about there either:) ). It's beautiful, everyone is so friendly... so much to do, and so convenient to Epcot & MGM.
This is a resort worth the price, though I'm not sure I could stay here again at normal rates..lol. We are here for 10 nights.

If money is a big issue, then stay where it's affordable for you. Or, if your a commando type family that barely uses the resort or facilities, then why spend money on a place you won't use?
We take long vacations.. and we use the resort for fun and relaxation, so if I can stay at a nicer one.. I do.

HRP is not bad.. it's just not great. But for $74.25, it would be on our stay list, just as the Radisson Resort Celebration is sometimes. I can get it cheap.. and it's nice enough, but not great. Much better pool than HRP though.

Have a great time no matter what you decide to do pixiedust:

Thanks so much - I will do that. I'll just use the closet and put the kids' stuff in the drawers.

Thanks again! It's only a commando 4 day trip with a first timer this time. Our 10+ day trips we stay at the Epcot resorts because we love the convenience of walking to Epcot and the Studios. Boardwalk is great for the late night stroll and snacks. Stayed concierge, waterview and std-love them all but HRP is 1/3 the price with free breakfast.

Thank You Anc96 for that well thought out review. DD and I are staying at the RPH in October and while I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles..it sounds like it has just what we need. We like a spacious room and we adore room service. I've dealt with DTD busses before (Grosvenor) so I'm prepared for the wait times.

I'm just having a hard time waiting my turn!:rolleyes1

thanks too for the review, I was looking at staying there in Oct with e4th nite free, it was 127/nite for deluxe tower room? So we'll see how it plays out
we have'nt stayed on property for awhile getting great deals off site so I would like to go back "on site" part of the stay. Right now I ahev nurses rate at the Dolphin for the first 4 nites I too love the convience of Epcot and MGM
as well as the Boardwalk for later nite strolls and ESPN club snacks:drinking1

Oh yes, I forgot about the internet service at HRP...in a word...terrible. First of all, it's $15 per day, and it didn't work, at all. I'm a computer engineer for my "real" job, trust me, it wasn't a user issue on my part! Even after an hour on the phone with their lousy tech support they couldn't get it to work, we finally gave up.

Just to touch on this. I have a broadband card so I don't need to use the hotel's internet service. But the same woman by the pool that told me about the horrible bus service, also said the internet service was free? I can't confirm this, but if it's a concern to someone, you may want to call ahead to find out.

I believe Disney charges $10... I think I read that on here somewhere.
I have verizon broadband and have gotten excellent signal and lightning fast internet.

I'm glad if I was able to help anyone about the HRP.
The rooms are very spacious, especially if you're comparing them to a Disney resort. I booked through bookit.com. The fourth night free and it was $99 a night, so $74.25 a night. I did not get free breakfast, but my dd did.

And mom_rules.. you're so right about paying 1/3 the price... My first 10 days was just that, one third the price of my last 10 on property. At least the last 10 included the dining plan. But still a lot of money! Next year I'll probably spend most of the time off property, but I really like to spend at least a few days on property.

We just got back from evening MHs at Animal Kingdom! I've never been there at night. I was so surprised they were opened until 11:00. It's a shame my dd really just wanted to ride Everest over and over and over and over... again. And, again.
I don't like coasters and I found I like them even less at night :upsidedow

Time for a magical sleep now!

Well, just got back last Saturday and finally catching up. We stayed at Royal Plaza for two nights prior to checking into the Poly. And I must say - never again. I had called over a month ago to add the second night but when I arrived, they said I was a day early. After some discussion, they went somewhere and checked and sure enough they had the info. Just hadn't put it into the computer yet. I knew then it wasn't going to be good. Luckily though they had rooms available so we did get in. The room had adjoining room which I do not like unless I ask for one. That night, the next door neighbors started smoking in their room (completely smokefree hotel) and it was coming through the door, so had to get the manager involved. Finally got the room aired enough to sleep. Next morning we caught their bus to the parks. No problem - until the driver said the first pickup would be 3:45pm. WHAT? I have a 1 yo DD, that will be ready to nap around noon or so. The family next to me asked if he heard that right, as they had small kids as well. The schedule didn't say anything about that, it said they run 15 minutes before and 15 after each hour. Conveniently left off the 3:45pm start time. Luckily DD slept in the stroller and we just hung out while she did. Got back that afternoon and thought perhaps the pool would be nice - NOT! No area for DD and DS to play, it went from 3.5 feet to 9 feet, no kiddie area at all. So we went to get some dinner and hang out in the room and watch the spoadically visible TV. Only a few channels would stay visible the entire time and they weren't the ones any of us cared to watch. That night, the smokers came back. Thank God the next morning we were leaving for the Poly. I said something to the manager but nothing was even said or offered to make our stay any better. I hope what I experienced wasn't the norm but there were too many issues for me to ever step foot in there again. We talked to one other family while there and they were waiting past 6pm to get a room and they had 3 kids as well. They were miserable since there wasn't anything for the kids to do. So that is my report, sorry, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Ratpack,

Thank you so very much for taking the time to write your report. I'm sorry your experience was so bad. Since my ressie's are all paid for, I'm going to buck up and keep them. My DD is 21 yrs old and so I don't think that some of the things you mentioned would be a problem for us (except the smoking...I'd have a fit).

How did you like the POLY? And your vacation overall?

thanks again
Rosie
