I notice in the news yesterday that the Royal Mail has failed to meet all its performance targets

We used to get our post before 8am every morning; delivered by the same friendly postie. Which was great, if we received something that needed urgent attention, we could respond on the same day etc.

Now, our post seems to arrive any time between 9am and 2pm! It seems to be delivered by a different postie everyday, most of which don't seem to wear any noticable uniform! It's seems to be a complete shambles :( Having the post so late means we don't see it until we get home from work - too late to make any response to urgent letters.

What's your postal service like in your area?

absolutely terrible!!!! We have had weeks where we get no post at all for days and days. We have had stuff go missing-we have complained on numerous occaisions which gets only a form letter back and no action.

Its very frustrating when you are waiting for important stuff to come through. I really dont know what has happened to our postal service:(

Wheezie

It's awful here as well. We usually receive post between about 11am and 1pm. I and some neighbours have written to the Royal Mail about the delivery times, as we used to receive mail at around 7am. Their reply said that we can choose what time we have post delivered....upon payment of a fee (around £40/week!).

We also seem to have a different Postal worker delivering each day.

The Royal Mail needs a good sorting out. It is a complete mess.

:(

Diabolic - since moving to Hampshire we have never had an early morning delivery. Before and during the summer holidays it was sometimes 3pm before we saw any post and on occassions even later! We too have had a number of posties, some in, some out of uniform. Today I was shocked, post at 11am!!! But will it last, doubt it.

Our post used to get to us at between 7:45 and 8:30, just too late for me to catch it before I had to leave for work.

Recently it has been arriving about 30 minutes later than this, but as I wasn't able to see it before I went to work before I don't really miss the service now either :)

Also most of the post I seem to receive is either bills :(, junk mail inviting me to take out an enormous loan for which I will be automatically accepted or junk mail inviting me to take out another credit card.

I can't say I would miss any off this post :)

The Postal Service in my area (Edinburgh) is absolutely AWFUL :( Mail is delivered anytime between 9am-3pm    With a different Postie it seems everyday. My mail has been delivered to a few neighbours homes and fortunately they were honest enough to pass it on as one of those letters was my new C/C for my hols

It is a complete shambles at the moment

well i'm afriad i have to defend the postmen because my dh is one:D and he works very hard for little money
it's not the postmen who have chosen the delivery regime it's the so called royal mail bosses:rolleyes: and our postmen are the ones who have to put up with the abuse and constant complaints
royal mail thinks it works better to have 1 delivery now instead of 2 and thats all been put down to cost's and the postmen are carring out 2 deliveries in one go which then results in you all getting post late(not to mention the weight they have to carry)to which then the postmen get being blamed
but royal mail contradict themselfs because they say this is to say money and then they have to go and get casuals in,and they are thrown in at the deep end and don't really know the job(which is not their fault either)and this then leads to post going missing
 and the casuals don't care about this because they are paid by agencies and are guaranted their wages::yes::
my dh is still on his regular walk and his customers know who he is and he does his job properly, but it's posties like him and the other good posties that get the bad name and people are too quick to judge all postmen:rolleyes:

ok i have had my rant now and i'm ready for people to flame me lol:duck:

we know its not the posties fault. my friends dh is a postie and she says royal mail are crap also. we were talking about this today actually. she was telling me about the crap he puts up with from royal mail. the only thing about royal mail is that its not like we can go to another service provider like you can when your telephone service is crap. no voting with your feet here. my dad was a postie when i was little lol.

love

i'm following you to-night:D
don't get me wrong my dh does say that the actual post service is c**p::yes:: it just makes me mad when people moan about the postmen when they do actually work hard and belive me my dh is no:angel: and as for the bosses i just think they have no respect for the men and women in their work force, and another thing dh moans about(these are his words)that the government has run royal mail into the ground:rolleyes:

I was told exactly the same thing by my regular postman 18 months ago, whilst I still had a regular postman. I have sympathy for individual postmen, but when push come to shove, it a postal service I want, and I'm not getting one!!!

I never know when the post is coming. Sometimes as early as 8:30, sometimes as late as 2pm. Post goes missing (just had an important bundle of paper delivered by bike courier after they were delivered to the wrong address (right street, wrong post code - can't postmen read anymore!)

More and more, I am coming to rely on email, faxes and courriers instead of mail. The Post Office are losing business as a result. I would pay double or treble for first class delivery, if the post office could GUARENTEE delivery.

Locally, they have even removed the collection indicators from the post boxes so you don't know if they have collected or not.

According to my newspaper, my post code is six or seven from the top of the league table of most improved deliveries. All this shows is how low bad the local service had got earlier in the year. Our deliveries are still diabolical, but accoring to the statistics a whisker less diabolical than they were.

I hadn't noticed!

i totally agree about the actual level of service::yes:: i have not had a regular postman for quite a while now and it's very frustrating when you either don't get post or it goes missing::yes:: it certainly does need a shake up::yes::

8:00 am!! Wow! I've never received mail before noon. Mine will show up anywhere from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm, sometimes later on Saturdays. My regular postlady is very good, but she's not always there and when that happens my magazines frequently go missing. The Vanity Fair with a shirtless picture of Becks on the cover never showed up. Hmmmmm, imagine that.

Anway, just wanted you guys to know that it happens over here as well.

Can't imagine why anyone would have wanted it. ;)

Dont get me started on Royal Mail.........

1)my post now comes anything upto 4pm and has even been know to arrive after 5pm.

2)An ongoing saga with the redirection order my EXDH set up. They keep sending my post to his new address, has happened a multitude of times with postwatch, headoffice and area manager now involved. They cannot seem to grasp that i am very angry about my mail being delivered to his "other womans" address even though it has been repeatedly flagged at the sorting office for every letter to be passed by the manager before being delivered.

3)sending of important documents a couple of weeks ago by special delivery gauranteed 9am next day delivery, they didnt turn up and the shorterned version of the story when i phone the hotline to see what was going on was that they had no idea where they were.......24 hours later eventually delivered but no explanation, supposed to be barcode tracked for entire journery for the huge fee they charge.

So at the moment the Royal mail are not my favourite company, but saying that my poor old postie is always cheerful with a pleasent word, when i see him!!!!

I completely agree with you eve I certainly don't blame the actual postmen/women in the slightest I realise they are only doing their job and the changes Royal Mail have implemented have put a tremendous strain on them ::yes:: ::yes::

However like most people who work in the public sector its the poor individuals that take the flack, the ones on the *front line*

:( I certainly dont agree....
