Rough start on the DVC thing

Well, I've been looking at the SSR threads & it seems that there are plenty of people who love it & we were planning on a rental car, so if we can't deal w/ the buses we've got a plan B. The next thing is the points -- I was planning on a value room @ AKV which is a lot fewer points than SSR. If I can't use some of the first year's points, I've got to figure something else out! Right now I'm on the Scarlet O'Hara plan -- I'll think about it tomorrow!

Thanks for the advice & tips everyone!

Can't you borrow your 2010 points from VGC? I could have sworn the QA person said I could do that and those points do show up on my member page.

If your trip definitely has to be in July there probably wouldn't be any Value 2BRs available at AKV since we're only 3 months away from that time frame. There aren't very many of Value Villas and they tend to book up early. So don't beat yourself up thinking you could have saved a lot of points and weren't able to. I hope you enjoy your first DVC trip regardless of where it is! :) As DVC Mike said "it's still Disney"!

Good Luck! :goodvibes

You cannot use (current/borrow...) points of a unit that is not legally occupiable. BLT and VGC are not occupiable in July 2009 and you are not paying any member fees to be in the DVC system, yet. It would not be fair if you could book a July 2009 trip to AKV if you could not return the favor and allow a AKV owner the ability to book a July 2009 stay at your VGC/BLT (points systems work only if everything stays in balance). Once your VGC/BLT unit is occupiable, then you can fully participate in the DVC system.

SSR is a lovely resort and the DP's have only been for SSR for quite a few months now. I am sure you will have a great time at SSR.

As for room occupancy due to fire regulations etc it is only 4 persons in a 1 bed plus one under 3 for SSR.

Claire ;)

Claire, that has been changed in recent years. You can book 5 in a one bedroom. They will not give you extra bedding, so you would have to bring your own bedding or plop a little one in the King bed with Mom and Dad.

In fact we just booked 9 in SSR two bedroom. She said it will be tight, but if we are willing, DVC allows it. All nine of us will be eligible for the Magical Express, dining plan and all will have room keys.

We are waitlisted for AKV so we can fit more comfortable in the 2 bedroom, but it can definitely be done.

To the OP if you and your family are ok with one of the little ones sleeping with you in the King, then Grandma and the other child should be able to fit comfortably on the couch. Or of course you can bring an Aero bed and put it on the floor somewhere for one of the kids (or both). The only drawback to SSR one bedroom vs. AKV or BLT is that there is now an additional bathroom in the one bedroom.

Oh and we stayed at SSR and it really is a lovely resort. Not sure why some people criticize it. The only problem I can see is if you get in the Paddocks which is far away from everything and that you must take a bus to all the parks. Other than that, we loved the resort and found the buses ran well.

Good luck, I would definitely look into the new incentive. WE change the incentive and are still having to end up in SSR for our summer trip (if the waitlist doesn't come through!!) but because of the price drop we were able to buy more points.

Happy planning.

OK -- got a ressie @ SSR. Using cash for 2 nights...:headache:....however, Grandma isn't going to live forever & we know our kids will cherish their time with her @ WDW. They are so excited to show Grandma Disney things she has never seen! It's just as well that we aren't borrowing points from our first year, since I've got plans for those already! ;) My big fear here is that I'm starting to feel the onset of addonitus!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!! :grouphug:

Have fun! What did you decide?? Two bedrooms? Two Studios or did you squeeze into a one bedroom? Did you request where you want to be placed?? If you want DTD view that would be Congress Park. If you want a nice quiet, far away location that would be the Paddocks and if you want to be near the main pool that would the Springs. We really liked Grandstand area as that is the first bus stop so we didn't ever have to stand. Also the quiet pool there is really nice. Be sure to request since SSR is a big resort.

Have fun planning the rest of your trip!!

Good for you Katrina :yay: !!!

Were you able to get 25% member's discount on cash nights ? ( if not you can check back with MS from time to time before your trip to ask if it has become available ).

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip & the experiences & memories will be so precious :grouphug: it will all be well worth it :flower3:

Enjoy !

You can't borrow points (or use points in general) from the contract until the contract has closed and the resort is open.... VGC doesn't open until Nov 30th and the OP is looking at a stay this July.
The DPs expire OCT 3rd. The paperwork which says you can use your interest in other DVC properties to add to your DPs does not list VGC. It does list BLT (for stays after BLT is open). And if you had BLT points, you would only be able to put them together with the DPs for stays between Aug 4th and Oct 3rd.

We got a 2 br & requested close to the pool. DS #2 loves the water. DH, Grandma & DS #2 can go to the pool while DS #1 and I figure out how to get in that new hot air balloon! After taking 3 hours :scared1: to get the airline tickets using miles (everyone has their own darn frequent flyer acct), I think I just might try out the spa after all! ;) Yes, I did get the DVC discount for the 2 non-point nights -- I'm all over using the discounts! That's how we got sucked into golf -- Boss paid for a NICE vacation @ WDW incl deluxe dining, which included free golf lessons, rental & fees. Since it was FREE, we had to do it! Got hooked and have now dumped a tons of moolah down the golf blackhole! That reminds me, I've got to get travel bags for the clubs, since there's a discount for DVC golf & since Grandma can cook breakfast for DSes one am while DH & I go embarrass ourselves on the course!

I figured out a good use for my un-used 40 developer points as well. I'm going to make a ressie at the DL hotel for one of my CA employees who has been doing a good job but isn't getting a raise this year because of the economy. I think he can use 2fer tickets and do a Disney weekend pretty inexpensively. I was going to give them to my SIL, but she's a pain 99.99% of the time, so I came up w/ a more deserving individual!

You won't have any more room in the AKV two bedroom. But you will have the sleeper chair in the living room for the ninth person.
