We are on the 2/24, Wonder 3 day.
Has it ever happened that the captain new ahead of time that the seas were awful, and taken the ship elsewhere before trying to make ports they new he wouldn't be able to get into?

I would think that at the least in hurricane season that it has happened on more than one occasion. This seems to be where people get the most upset. I do not think that we should ever have our heart set on any one destination. The safety of the crew and passengers is the one most important issue that the captain is responsible for.

I know that he has reports of all weather and sea conditions, because last Septemper during Jeanne, we were getting very updated reports, quite often in fact, about sea conditions, and where we would be headed.

Rough Seas - what happens!!

Unplanned stops at Havana to restock on Carpet Fresh.

I have no idea but our first night on 2/6 the waves were 15ft and even the wait staff was a little green. It was awful. dd and I ended up ordering room service while dh was sick in bed..

Hey We Were On That Sailing Too!! Wasn't It Awful The First Night? She Isn't Kidding When She Says The Wait Staff Was Green! The Dining Room Emptied Quickly, We Didn't Touch One Of Our Four Dinners! The Captain Met Us As We Were Leaving The Dr. And Offered To Send Our Meals To Our Stateroom,,no Thanks. He Explained That He Had Altered His Course And It Should Be Better Within Half An Hour, And It Was A Bit Better. He Also Sent Us To Guest Services For "sea Calm" . It's Better And Quicker Than Gravol. But Remember To Take 1 Every 12 Hours, I Thought She Said Take 1 Pack Every 12 Hours So I Took Both Tablets, Needless To Say, I Felt Much Better Very Quickly, But Couldn't Stay Awake. Had A Great Sleep, And Was Ready To Go Swimming With The Dolphins In The Morning!! Also, We Did Have The Sea Bands On, Wonder How Bad It Would Have Been Without Them!!

I too was on that cruise.

Our first Disney Cruise was the same time last year. The seas were worse!, that combined with the high speed needed to make it to Nassau made alot of people sick. I dont get motion sickness ever, but that night, I was feeling pretty bad.

You could not walk down the hallway without bouncing from side to side off the walls.

This cruise was not as bad, but the rough ride was longer than last year. It seems to smooth out as soon as we get past the Florida straights.

Hopefully our next Feb Eastern will be smoother.

The seas were rough on 1/29 too, but it makes for a cheap date. My husband had a long island and felt like he had several as he walked down the halls! It was neat to see the water come up to the porthole (we were on the second floor), but it scared my 9 y/o daughter and she had a hard time falling asleep. We hung out on deck 4 forward and watched the waves from there. It was pretty impressive to see the ocean like that.

From what I understand, the captain will sail away from rough seas wherever possible. But there's only so much flexibility to be had. There's not many ways to get to The Bahamas from Florida and passing over the gulf stream ususally gives at least some motion. I've been on a couple rough ones too and also enjoy going out on deck to watch the ocean! Its also something to watch the swimming pools turn into wave pools.

I was also on the Wonder on 2-6 and it was awful! The waves were sloshing the water right out of the pool. Supposedly there is one way in and out of the straights in Florida and we just got a rough week! Go figure!?

I am still feeling the boat move from a week ago! lol

we are also on the 2/24 wonder and i am hoping that the weather will be good...we have never sailed in february and hoping to have a wonderful time..

We don't get seasick, so the rougher the seas, the more we like it.

My first cruise was to the Caribbean on the Mermoz, a small, 400 passenger ship WITHOUT stabilizers. THAT was rough. We had 20 foot waves on our Eastern, and with stabilizers and the size of the Magic, it was a lot smoother.

I assume most of you saw the video from the rough seas the Global Explorer hit several weeks ago. THAT was rough, 50 foot waves, and that ship was built in 2003 so it has to have the latest in stabilizers. Of course, most of the kids on board were just laughing the entire time.

If the 2/24 is anything like the 2/13.....we got home yesterday.....you will be just fine. I learned that there is a word for the little ripples on the ocean they are called wavelets yep we had 1.5 foot seas the biggest waves were 4.5 feet and those were the first night and as for feb weather boy our cruise was great gentle beezes and HOT.

We just got off of the Wonder yesterday (2/17). The seas were the calmest we have EVER seen! We have been on cruises where we sailed through hurricane-force winds (per the Captain)... In fact, this was the ONLY cruise we have been on that ship was not rocking and rolling (this was our 6th cruise)...

Ok, I'm so crossing my fingers that it will be calm like this for us. We are doing Magic Western, Feb. 26 - our first cruise with our kids - and despite the fact that I can go with the flow, I really, really would like to do all our stops and enjoy some warm, not-too-windy weather.

Does anyone have experience with early March sailing? How does it compare to Jan/Feb in terms of waves, missed stops, etc.

On our last cruise my wife said that she thought that the ship was rough. I told her that Wonder was smoother than the ship that I was on in the Navy (USS Guadalcanal LPH-7) and that was a carrier. What's the point of going to sea if you can't feel it? Land lovers, it is not a vacation, it's an adventure. When you go dead in the water off Cape Hatteras with a storm comming up, then you can worry.

Rough Seas-What Happens?

Both of your closet doors will slide side to side slamming them open and shut. Make sure you have your bathroom door shut or wedged open as well. :tilt:
