Rotten Tomatoes Ranks the Top 100 Disney Animated Movies

I never saw Home on the Range, could it really be worse than Chicken Little? Chicken Little is on my list of worst movies period, animated or not, Disney or otherwise. Hated it. The entire alien thing was sooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid and out of place.

See, there is a special place in my heart for Chicken Little. I will freely admit it is not one of Disney's best, but I found the quips between the main three characters fairly amusing. I admit the storyline is a bit dire, and Zack Braff basically plays a young, chicken version of JD in Scrubs, but there is something about it I find endearing. Much, much more so than say Black Cauldron (although I found out today that Tim Burton was one of the concept artists- so I am not as surprised how dark that movie turned out to be!)

I thought Snow White would be number 1. Now I want to watch all of the movies in order from worst to first to see if I agree with the assessment.

I actually really like that idea. The British Film Institute in London is showing all 50 on the big screen every Sunday for the rest of the year (one a week), so I would like to see a few on the big screen!

I certainly would of put Sleeping Beauty higher than Pinocchio or Fantasia.

I think it would also all change if we added Pixar and their live-action into the mix (e.g. things like Mary Poppins).

I agree with the top 10 overall, but not in the order they were ranked by RT.

Now, see, The Black Cauldron is the first book in a series (The Chronicles of Prydain) that are amongst my all-time favorite books. So there's a special place in my heart for The Black Cauldron. I haven't watched it in ages, but I seem to remember it being a reasonably good adaptation of the book. I really need to watch it again.

I guess we all have our soft spots for certain Disney movies!

I would love to see them on the big screen. I hope you get to see your favorites on the big screen!

I read the series and watched the movie last year. I think they combined the books into one story. I wish they would remake them as separate books. I loved them!

I would have listed that soooo differently. I'll have to show my husband he will find it interesting.

Wow. So not how I would have ranked them. Granted, I have not seen all those movies, but none of the top 5 movies probably would have even made my top 20. (Especially 101 Dalmations. Never liked that one.) Goes to show that everyone has their own opinion!

I think you guys are missing that Rotten Tomatoes isn't ranking them, it's some sort of system based on the compilation of critical reviews, though not just based on the percentage of good ratings in every case.

I agree that Beauty and The Beast should be number one.

It's all just fun and conjecture, anyway. Americans love lists and rankings for some reason.

Personally, I'd like to see "The Emperor's New Groove" ranked a little higher, only because it makes me laugh harder than most any other Disney film. But, in more of "Loony Tunes" sort of way - I can understand why it isn't thought of as "classic" Disney.

And then there's "Fantasia". I personally practically worship that ground-breaking, ages ahead of it's time film, (can't *believe* our Pete has never seen it ! ) but most young children are bored silly by it, except for the "Sorcerer Mickey" final sequence. So, should a film that bores it's core audience be ranked so highly ?

Finally, there's the matter of "Dumbo". Yes, it's certainly a classic. Yes, the central character has become a Disney icon... But, if I had my way that film would not be shown to any child under the age of ten.

It's traumatic, it's heartbreaking, and at times just plain disturbing.

I saw it around the age of five and it's not an exaggeration to say it scarred me for life. To this day, I can't listen to, "Baby Mine" without reaching for a Kleenex.

Just some random thoughts....

Totally agree with everything. Especially Emperor's New Groove. I've never understood why it doesn't get more love. :confused3

Very true about Fantasia and Dumbo. I haven't seen Dumbo in years and years, but I remember being traumatized the first time I saw it, I think I was seven or eight.

That order just irritates the crap out of me...Pinocchio at #1?! Really, RT?! And to say that Aladdin started the second "Golden Age of Disney"??? Actually, I think that was Little Mermaid, which won two Academy Awards and pulled the animation department out of near-bankruptcy, so....your order is just wrong. I won't even watch Pinnochio or Dumbo because they're just frightening.

But that's just one woman's opinion....princess:

I went straight to No1 and am completely chuffed :goodvibes I love this film.
There are many wonderful Disney movies, but I think the jump in quality from Snow White to Pinocchio is incredible.

Totally concur with others Bolt at #11 :confused3

What made me realise that Disney animation was where the first seeds of my Walt Disney interest were cultivated is that I have owned almost all of theses movies on VHS and now have every one of the top 50 on DVD/Blu ray :rolleyes1 I may need help.

Let me start out by saying that Rotten Tomatoes is a horrible name for a website that ranks movies because judging by the name, I think it's a site that only talks about BAD movies. :confused3

Anyway, I think Pocahontas deserves to be ranked higher than 44th out of 50th. I'd probably put it somewhere int the mid to low twenties, a notch or two above, say, Mulan, but below Bambi.

I agree that Chicken Little needs to be near the bottom if not last. I think that everything they attempted to do with that film failed miserably.

Bolt was good, much better than I had expected it to be, but I don't think I'd have put it 11 out of 50.

I'm with those who'd put Beauty and the Beast at number 1 with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at number 2.

"Bolt" at number eleven ?? Reallly ? :sad2:

That is EXACTLY what I was coming back here to write!!! And I love Pinochio - it would have definitely been in my top 5, but I think I would have put Lion King a little higher - maybe even #1.

I think they nailed the TOP 10 and probably the TOP 5 as well. And who could possible argue against the TOP 3??
