RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

So we got there about 6:15 for 7 a.m. opening. There was a sea of humanity in front of us. They opened the gates a little after 6:30. The enter process worked much faster than we thought it would and we were very surprised to get group 30. Our number was called at 9:05 a.m. which was alot earlier than we expected. We entered RotR around 9:45 and the whole thing took 1 hr (the line inside was very long). We could see in parts it looked like it was being run at half capacity. Anyway, today at least you did not have to get there crazy early to get a pretty early BG. We did hear that all BDs were given out by 7:20 (not sure if that is correct or not).

Question: Does all of your group have to be tapped in to the park to get a BG? Say I wake up early, head to DHS and get in by 7am and a slightly later BG. Can I get me and the family in the BG and then they can come later? It does not seem like this is what people are doing so I wanted to clarify.

Here is our experience this morning: 2 adults. I requested an Lyft last night for 5:25 pick up. Lyft came at 5:30.
no bags to check
In line at 5:40 at the ticket booths but we in a definite line for the tapstiles not the mass of people that were behind us
Tapstiles opened at 6:36
6:41 we had BG 23
BG called at 7:01
Scanned into line at 7:06
Almost through line and boarding the ride when we were stopped
Water, chips and bananas after about 20
Popcorn and cookies next, probably 30 minutes later
Free photo pass with Chewbacca
Vi Moradi came thru line
Started to move and in the ride at 8:21
Off the ride at 8:34
Totally worth it!!!

Yes, everyone has to be in the park to get in a BG. If they want to ride they'll have to wake up and join you.

Having just returned from WDW, my comments are:
1. Disney is still figuring it all out, they have a ride that can literally not handle all the parks guests in one day, that virtually all want to go on. It is also in ways out of their hands. They can not let safety become an issue. On 12/5 they weren't letting people into the parking lot until about 4:30, but the walk overs from boardwalk forced their hand. and they just extended park hours.

2. You are probably better off getting there by 6. I got there by 6 on 12/6 and 12/7 and things worked out fine. If you have to wait an hour for the touch points to start going, you will still be better off. They will open other parts of the park, and those rides will have very little lines. on 12/6, I rode slink dog and midway mania twice each before by BG was called at like 7:30. Next day RnRC and midway mania.

BGs are barely making it to actual park opening, and on most days not even to official park opening.

Getting back to my first point, with an attraction this popular and literally unable to handle all the guests on a given day, I think there is going to be a line before park opens for a long time to come. And if that is the case, they have to consider the safety of the guests, and they will be opening before the official open for a while, however, I have been wrong before.

If you are staying on property, and they have buses running to HWS, get yourselves on over there. Leaving Wilderness Lodge on 12/7 there was a bus for HWS pulling out at about 5:45

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for all of the information so far. Our plan is still to hit it tomorrow morning! How long does it take for an Uber or Lyft to get to one of the hotels at say 5am? Trying to decide how much time to allow for an Uber / Lyft to get to us when planning the mornin
I think they are wearing blue polo's. Guest experience team.
our guy was is plaid vests like for Christmas

Yes can’t add to BG unless tapped in

Did the ride start functioning today at about the same time as yesterday? (Even though the park "officially" opened earlier today, it sounds like guests actually began tapping in a few mins LATER than yesterday, in spite of the earlier official opening.)

3:00: BG 70.

average down to 3.5 per hour over last 2 hours.
4:00: BG 73.

Avg 3 BG/hr over past 2 hours.
You do realize that this is the same BG you provided at 3:30, right? I’m not sure calculating an “average” makes sense if the ride appears to be experiencing downtime. At this point we’ve been stuck on BG 73 for 38 minutes.

Actually it wouldn't be an average if you didn't include the downtime.
I just don’t think that number provides anything valuable. All that really matters is what they can achieve when the ride is operating reliably (IMO). I can also tell you they are averaging 0 BGs over the past 46 minutes. Would you extrapolate that into anything useful 🤣

To each their own but avg over the past 2 hours including 46 min. of potential downtime misses the mark for me 👍

I would not get too hung up on Boarding Group numbers.

You have no idea how big a boarding group is, and as long as Disney's IT department doesn't have its head totally in a place that the sun doesn't shine, the number in a boarding group, and/or number of BGs per day, should be very easy to change, literally a 1 minute task.

I just don’t think that number provides anything valuable.
If you calculate rolling averages throughout the day it highlights when the ride is experiencing problems and potential patterns. You can use the high avg and low avg figures to come up with an earliest/latest range for returning to the park. No guarantees, of course, but can be useful w/caveats.

To each their own 😊

After reading this thread the past couple of evenings we went at this this morning prepared. In fact based on comments last night we decided to leave half an hour earlier.

scheduled Lyft last night for 5.25
picked up at 5.29 at okw
at Hs by 5.40
straight through bag check
joined line at ticket booths level which was a bit troubling at the time, further back more people then previous days it seemed
lines started moving in at 6.36 as park opened
in Park and got bg 24 approximately 6.44
son used iPhone 11 app on park wifi, was pretty much within a minute of us all getting in, they tell you it can take 5 minutes for the app to realize you are inside but that wasn’t our experience
went straight to smugglers run, had a 25 minute wait on sign but walked straight on
got off to find bg 24 called at 7.05
restroom stop then into line by 7.15
pretty quick line through to second last room then stopped
hour long wait but honestly seemed not as long as food drinks brought through and chewbacca photo opportunity
line started moving again about 8.20 and we were on and it was really immersive

would recommend to any Star Wars fan
now contemplating if we do it again tomorrow lol
