New store opening in our area this saturday, got a mailer.

Went to website www.rossstores.com not much there, mentions dept. store discounts of up to 64%.

Any experienced shoppers?

You can get good deals. They do carry a lot of brand names. Just make sure you check everything over real good, a lot of their merchandise are defects. I've bought clothes, shoes, bags and bedding from there in the past.

I have found TONS of good stuff at Ross! But you have to go without kids and you have to have plenty of time to pick through the racks.;)

I buy lots of Jones New York clothes for myself, Teva sandals for DS, pants for DH (chinos for him to wear to work), Samsonite luggage, Easy Spirit shoes, all kinds of goodies. But it is spotty - sometimes they have great stuff, sometimes nothing. Most of the time the price tag will say "First Quality" if it is just an overstock or discontinued item.

You do have to watch out for flaws etc. I tried on a linen dress one time that when I went to pull it over my head I noticed the 2 pieces of fabric sewn down the back were completely different shades of blue. Skipped that purchase.;) But you can return things if you keep the receipt, so if you get it home and notice there is something wrong it can go back.

I used to work for TJ Maxx, and a Ross opened 2 months after our store. Initially, I wasn't impressed. But lately thay have a much better assortment of merchandise, especially for kids. I looked all over for my DD a dress to wear as an escort at a Homecoming. She's 8, so my choices were kinda limited, since I didn't want anything too old or revealing. I looked at a specialty store, a consignment store, Belk's, TJ Maxx, and only found 1 possibility. But I walked in the door at Ross and found 4 dresses that were appropriate. The best part, all were on the Clearance rack. I walked away with a short prom dress for $13.99. Can't beat that!!:thumbsup2

Just check for irregularities, missing buttons, etc.

Dito above responses. You do have to search the racks. It's a much easier shopping experience without youngsters. I've bought some great things there, purses, clothes, housewares, etc. Definitley check it out.:thumbsup2

 I love Ross...got all kinds of great deals, Tevas, Sketcher Calis, books, the occasional Yankee Candle, clothes for me and DD5.

I love Ross. I used to get all of my formal dresses there. Great housewares at ours and Holiday stuff. Just look everything over well. But I find this in alot of stores.

It's pretty much the same as TJ Maxx and Marshall's IMO. One time you go and get something great for a fraction of what you would expect to pay for it, and the next time you find nothing. I've got really good deals on a couple pairs of shoes for my DS and my favorite Ralph Lauren shorts were under $10.

We always pick an Angel Tree child at Christmas. Last year I was able to outfit the child with nice clothes, coat, underwear, pjs, jogging suits, shirts, pants, shoes and books for right at $200. I had a ton of stuff and all at great deals. I have never noticed any type of defect with any of the clothes. It is probably no worse than defects you find at other stores.

I do agree with people about it being hit or miss. Sometimes you go in and find a store full and other times, the selection is limited.

You can find some good deals, but it may require an extensive search. ;)

I bought a 43 piece Gorham silverware set there just the other day in my pattern, storage chest included, for less than I originally paid for one place setting.
:rolleyes1

But I found that while I was returning a pair of $10 Zena jeans that I obviously didn't check over carefully enough; since when I got home and put them on... one leg fit waay tighter than the other. And no, my legs are not lopsided, there was a repaired rip all along the inside seam on one leg. Nice look.
:rotfl2:

Our Ross is awesome. I love going there b/c you find lots of name brand stuff for great prices, Michael Kors, Baby Phat, Coach...etc. Love it.

Love Ross. We have a newer one and it is very nice. The other day I got 2 sweaters, 1 dress shirt, sunglasses, and one nautica polo for my son for $43. There are always girls walking around with pricing guns and I always ask them to check my stuff, a lot of the time it is marked down more than the marked price:).

The York, PA store? I was just there over the weekend and saw it was opening soon. It's like TJ Maxx and I agree, usually messy.

The Ross stores around here are junky-- not nearly as nice as TJ Maxx or Marshalls. It's like comparing Wal-Mart and Target.....

Ross seems half empty, dirty, and understaffed most of the time. I've found one or two good deals there, but it's hard to make myself go.

wow, thanks for all the replies:)

i'm an outlet shopper, hate to pay full price for anything even in the dept. stores. Haven't decided if it solely about saving money or moreso, the thrill of the hunt.;)

Way behind on Xmas shopping for my DS, can't wait to see what's offered on Saturday.

Hi Keishashadow -
Where in Pittsburgh is the store opening? I'm interested in checking it out. I hope it is better than the Stein Mart they opened on McKnight - that was a big disappointment!

Not Keishashadow here,, but someone who lives where it is opening!
It would be in the Pittsburgh Mills Mall, The new section by Apple Bee's, they have Ross, Famous Footware and Office Max, or Staples and a Michaels going in that section,,, not to mention Sonic!
