Hi. My daughter has had a fever since Monday morning. Went to the doctors on Tues. They suspected strep but that came back negative. They didn't test for flu ???? She finally seems to have gotten over the fever - it was just about 99 this morning. Now she woke up with a flat rash on her neck, uppper back and upper chest. Looked on the internet and it may seem to be roseola. I have a call into her doctor but I don't expect to hear from her until this afternoon. So in the meantime has anyone encountered this? I don't think there is anything you can do for it anyway.

Thanks! :)

yes, both my kids have had it. four or five days of high fever (no other symptoms). As soon as the fever breaks, the rash comes out. There is nothing to do for it - I believe they are no longer contagious once the rash comes. Should be gone in a few days.

It sounds like roseola. My DD had it right before her second birthday. I will never forget it because she had a febrile seizure and it was the scariest moment of my life. The fever that comes with roseola can be very high (105 in DD's case) and spike quickly.

The only thing that would have me wondering is that it isn't very common in school age children (you sig says DD is 10.)

I'm shocked she hasn't had it already. Both my kids got it before 3. With both I treated the fever and then learned what it was when the rash came out. Neither saw a Dr.

If it is Roseola, her illness is really over once the rash comes out.

Very very common childhood virus.

Thanks for your replies. Actually the doctor just called me back - usually I wait all day :rolleyes1. Lil Mermaid - you were right on about the age thing. Dr. said she prob. is too old although it wouldn't be unheard of. She said it's prob. just a virus where a rash came out after a fever. She did warn me though that it could also be mono - although dd is on the younger age for that. She just told me to watch her over the weekend and if she is fatigued or fever/rash is still occuring that I'd need to bring her in for a blood test on Monday.

Thanks again all!

Mary

My DD9 just had something similar. She had a lower-grade fever (99-100) for a couple of days which was easily lowered with Motrin. She felt otherwise fine. After the third day she got a flat rash on her trunk which went away overnight.

I thought it might be roseola, but she is too old, so I chalked it up to a virus.
