For anyone who was lucky enough to get an outdoor patio table for Illuminations...what time did you find to be the best time to make the PS for?

If we are lucky enough...we'll take our time & order appetizers thru dessert. If they can't seat us outside...then we'll eat fairly quickly & then try to make it out in time to watch it from somewhere else.

I was thinking between 7:30 & 8:00, but do a lot of people book even earlier than that & secure all the tables before 7:30? I would think that anyone who got an outside table from like 7:00 on...would try to stretch out their stay.

Anyone else find that? Are all the table taken by 7:30?

Thanks for any advice that you could offer.

We were just there for New Year's week and had a PS for 7:30 P.M. Worked out perfectly. Waited a few minutes for the table and had a great spot outside for Illuminations.

Try 7:40 or 7:50. Show up early for your PS, and ask to be seated outside. Be very courteous. I think it makes a difference.:earsboy:

Make PS for between 7:15 and 7:45 (whatever is available) then show up at least 20 minutes early and check in. When you check in, tell the hostess you would like a table with a good view for Illuminations. This might take a little longer. Some that are already may not be planning on moving. We saw some "campers" that were done with dinner when we arrived at 7:15 and they were still there after the show at 9:30!!

While you wait, you can have a good beer from the sidewalk stand and enjoy all the action going on around you. You should have no problems getting your seat.

One note: I gave our waiter a $20 and told him we would be there "a while" and he took his time serving us. We got drinks then 20 minutes later we got appetizers, then 20 minutes after that more drinks, then we ordered dinner, then 20 minutes after that we got dinner and took our time eating. After that we had more drinks then enjoyed the show.

It is the best place to watch it in my opinion. We've done the Illuminations Cruise before and I like the Rose and Crown experiance better.

Good Luck!!

PS: We also tipped our waiter well after the meal along with the original $20 I gave him... the campers sat, drank water, and never shelled out a dime

As one who wasn't lucky enough to get an outside table, I just want to encourage you to consider eating slowly anyways. Illuminations began just as I started dessert, and they encouraged me to go outside on the porch. Ok, I had to stand, but the view of Illuminations was great! Then I came back in and finished dessert. Another nice thing was that it was very cold that night, yet they had heaters on the porch, so when I went outside, I was near a nice, warm heater. And if you have little children, be aware that they come around about 15 minutes before and pick a child to help "start" Illuminations by blowing out the flames. Not sure of the details. Hopefully someone else can describe it better (I know there are DISers who've been chosen)

We usually eat at the Rose & Crown when we go to Epcot, but I was disappointed when we were there last week. First I was told that the latest ps they would take is 7:30pm, which I thought was kind of odd because Illuminations doesn't start until 9pm. I had concierge book it for me and he noted our request for a patio table. We arrived 15 minutes early as advised and I was very surprised to see how many people were ahead of us as walk in's. They didn't have a ps, yet they were given a shorter wait time than ourselves. No problem though, we weren't in a hurry and I was happy to wait for an outside seat. The host was a bit grumpy when we finally made it to the podium and pretty much barked at us that he did see our request for the patio, but it was first come, first served and we had to take what we got. Putting on my best smile, I told him that we appreciated anything that he could do. Well, 20 minutes later our pager finally went off. We went up to the podium behind a couple that had come in right before us, but without reservations. They were being shown to an outside table, while my husband and I were being taken inside. It really would have been okay, except that our seats were along the back window wall. You know the kind that one side has a long bench and the tables are lined up in front of it with the chairs opposite. There is nothing I hate more than these seats. I cannot get comfortable on the bench and I always feel too short to reach the table. Not to mention the fact that you are practically sitting on top of the people at the table next to you. We declined the seat and were told that we would have to put our names back into the queue. I said that was fine and kept my fingers crossed for something a bit nicer. After only another 20 minute wait, we were seated outside, but back underneath the awning. We had a very cheerful waitress though and only once or twice glared at that other couple seated before us in a perfect viewing spot. We saw an interesting sight as we waited to order. A group of 4 adults were being led into the restaurant when they spied an open table next to us. I don't know if money changed hands, but the next moment, they were all seated at that table. A hostess came along and started yelling at them for sitting there, that the table wasn't open yet and hadn't even been cleaned. They refused to get up and she huffed away. We informed our waitress that as it was after 8pm now, we were going to stay at our table throughout Illuminations. We did order our dinner with her, but also wanted the fruit and cheese platter as an appetizer. I'm not sure what happened but literally within 5 minutes both our meal and appetizer were delivered to the table. We never got bread, water or anything. The waitress was very distressed over this and said that it was because the kitchen wasn't busy at all this evening. Well, you couldn't have told that by the way the host and hostess's were all acting. You'd have thought it was 4th of July. We just ended up setting the fruit and cheese aside for dessert instead.

Not one of our better memories of the Rose & Crown.

That would be VERY frustrating to have to go through. We always order the appetizer by itself and never order dinner until we are partially through the appetizer.

My wife and I can drag any meal at WDW out to at least two hours in length...longer if need be.

We go to Cal. Grill all the time, get the window seats for the Fireworks, and take our time.

We've never had any problems watching a show and eating dinner. It always go so smooth. We're just lucky I guess.

For those who have been lucky enough to be seated outside, when they allow the customers seated inside out on the patio to view illuminations, do you find it to be very intrusive?

Only when they muscle in between my table and the wall thus blocking my view and knocking my wine over onto my wife.

LOL, I am hoping you are kidding. Really, I've been seated at the tables in Mexico's cantina where people have done just that sort of thing. I realize there's a difference between the two venues, but the way some people act at the parades and fireworks one never knows.

We ate at R&C on NYE and it was not a pleasant experience. We had a 7:20 PS, the first Illuminations was for around 7:30. I got in the check-in line at about 6:15. I got to the podium about 6:45 and was told I was too early to check in (they were out of beepers), and to check in 10-15 minutes before our reservation. So I got back in line and another half hour later made it up to the podium. I got a beeper, but we didn't get a table until 8:15-8:30 or so. What made it worse is they were allowing walk-ins to get tables!!! Instead of watching Illuminations from R&C, we watched in the mayhem of the masses on the walkways. It was a zoo. Contrary to Rose & Crown's method of dealing with PS's and walk-ins, for lunch, I tried a walk up to the Bier Garten in Germany, and was told they were all booked up with PS's and were not taking any walkups. That's as it should be. No problem.

But at Rose & Crown on NYE night of all nights, , they were way backed up with people that had PS's, and yet they were taking walk-ups and THE WALK-UPS were getting tables!!! Needless to say there were many people in the line quite hacked off and I do mean extremely hacked off about this procedure. The service and the food was good, but I will go elsewhere the next time.

Actually when I was allowed to do that (go outside but seated inside), we stood against the resturaunt wall. I didn't see anyone attempt to go forward, and considering how "straight-on" the view was, I wouldn't see any need to. If anyone ever did that, it would not only be intrusive, I'd think, but unnecessary too.
