Just saw the pictures of the removal of the swan boat dock. Does this mean Disney is getting rid if the Rose Garden as well?

All for more stinkin FP+ parade viewing?

Ugh, I think I am going to avoid MK until it's all done. I know it will probably look fine when it's all done, but I just hate the way it looks right now.

It is not to add FP+ viewing for anything. The congestion and sardine can that is Main Street and the hub during busy times is the reason. Search the threads, there are pictures of the final product and I think it looks like a great idea based on the information we have now.

Yep, you can see before and after pictures here. It looks like it will not only make it easier for people who aren't interested in seeing the parade to get through, but will ease congestion after the parades as well.

As someone who has been stuck without being able to move six inches in either direction while trying to get through the Hub during the fireworks, thank goodness they have finally done something about it!

Yes,the Rose Garden is going away.

There will be Roses in the hew Hub-just not a "concentrated" Rose Garden per se.

That stinks. Yes I know it is to easy congestion but it has also been said to add grass areas for fireworks viewing.

Either way it stinks. I agree hub was a mess during fireworks but why would anyone "cut through" the hub during fireworks if you aren't going to watch them. You can go the back way behind the castle and use the adventureland or noodle station path to get to Main Street.

Sad to see the moat filled in and rose garden removed. Got engaged in the garden when disney offered engagement packages years ago. Also was a nice place to sit and relax outside of the craziness. There are no real places to just sit and chill a moment left in MK.

The hub has gone from a beautiful foliage filled landscape to a slab of concrete.

Sorry you are sad about it, Kenny. :( The new design looks like it will do a LOT for the SNAFU of the hub though.

So many of these recent "improvements" for the flow of traffic remove greenery, flowers and water. That seems to be the pattern in cities today. Hate to see that happen at Disney.
And truthfully if you aren't going for the fireworks, stay the devil out of the hub. I don't go there. I mean I really don't. Just like I avoid Main St. for the parades. The exception being the Move it Shake it little parade which we usually watched and listened to from the umbrella tables.
The finished product might "work" just fine. I just don't like to see that trend. More hard surfaces for more crowds.
Just MY humble opinion, so please don't shoot the messenger.

I don't think I've been to MK without something being walled off, tarp'd over over or in the process of being dug up since 2009. And we do go every year. I keep thinking every trip that next time at least they would have finished whatever it is at that time and then the next time, sure as ever, it's complete and something else is being worked on. :crazy2:

I can relate to how you feel about it. Fact it, there is a problem with congestion and I can see how it's a necessary change that overall constitutes an improvement from a purely functional perspective. The aesthetics on the other hand are another story. Quite frankly I think they should consider whether their cap on numbers in the park is a bit higher than practicality allows. It doesn't matter if you can get so many thousand in ... the question is can those thousands do anything?

Any idea on how long this will take?

There was a date thrown out for sometime in 2015 but I don't recall what it was or if it was an official target or just a rumor. There is a thread about it on the Disney Rumors and News sub forum with more detailed info.

Kenny, I am sorry Disney is ridding a place that has very special meaning to you! While I don't have that type of an attachment, I don't agree with making Magic Kingdom a "cement city". I find it very sad that Disney has chosen to demolish greenery, lush grass, and water features that is home to living creatures. I wonder why they couldn't find another way like adding an exit bridge. Very Sad!

No shooting here.

Totally agree!

Aw, that's a bummer. I would be sad too.

I am trying to think positive about it, but I really do think it's going to look like a slab of concrete.
