Rose & Crown?

Everyone has their own opinion. I love R&C, Biergarten is just so so for us. My husband is 1/2 Brit and 1/2 German, so I guess he thinks the food in Germany is too Americanized and the R&C is a bit more UK influenced. Plus he doesn't like the shared tables at Biergarten.

You have to try it for yourself to be 100% sure.

Sticky Toffee Pudding, yummmmmmm.

R&C used to be a favorite of ours especially because we were able to get a table outside during IllumiNations several times. That is getting much tougher to do now that everyone wants to be there then. :(

The menu selection is limited and not the greatest IMHO. The Fish and Chips are usually good, but they are hotter (and less expensive) when you get them from the take-out window. There are not too many other items on the menu that appeal to us. The Guiness and Bass are always excellent! :drinking1

Is Illuminations ALWAYS at 9p? If so, what is the very best time to make an ADR for R&C to get an outside seat for Illuminations?

I know that IllumiNations usually goes off at 9:30 during December. You can check the Disney website for your vacation time. :surfweb:

I don't know, we've never made it past the pub.

I'm kidding. (sort of...)

The food is just OK, not horrible but not great, either. The steak and fish is prolly the best thing on the menu.

It's kinda sad, because 10 or 15 years ago, the food was amazing. I'm not sure what happened, but it's not what it used to be. These days, sometimes the fish and chips are good, sometimes really awful, it's hit or miss.

On the upside, we've always found the staff and servers to be very friendly and helpful. And of course, if you can get a seat outside for Illuminations, the quality of the food can be forgiven.

Does anyone who had the steak and fish remember the types? Ie: shell steak and tilapia? Just an example...

The fish is either haddock or cod. It's a big honking battered piece of fish. I think the steak was sirloin. Nothing special.

I agree with the PP who said R&C was better 10-15 yrs. ago. DH and I had some wonderful meals there. The food was more authentically British and very well prepared. It's now a shell of it's former self. :sad2:

R&C is the one TS we eat every time we are at Disney. We love the strong cider and roasted mushroom appetizer. Kids still talk about those with reverence. Desserts are good too as well as the yummy curry dish for my vegetarian daughter and the new tamarind pork loin. It did used to be better 10 years ago, they had a seafood lunch pie we at twice in one week. But we still love R&C!

My friend got the steak and fish last week and it was cod. She absolutely loved her meal.

Has anyone ever tried the vegetable curry at Rose & Crown? I'm a vegetarian and it sounds pretty good!

We have been eating at R&C since our first trip years ago . Since then we make it a tradition to eat there on every trip. We ate there again last December and had the best steak of our trip.

R&C is the one restaurant we eat at on all trips. Fish and chips are the best. The steak is good. We love the atmosphere as much as anything. My husband and dad always get the beer sampler. That is the highlight of their dining! We have timed it right a couple of times where we can watch Illuminations at the restaurant after we have finished dinner. Give it a try!

We also eat there every trip. The mushroom appetizer is delicious! The entrees always satisfy and the desserts are delicious (especially the toffey pudding and Guiness choclate cake). Also the service is excellent.

The food at Rose and Crown is probably some of the worst in the world showcase. If you want food similar to that, eat at Raglan Road in DTD.

ditto......
R&C is the only restaurant in all of WDW we won't return to (literally inedible food, severely overworked & consequently, substandard service) :scared:

would tolerate the poor service (waiting over an hour for menu, another hour for appy, totalling almost five hours with never getting water & beverages finally brought with dessert), but of 7 people, not one could eat their appy or entree without gagging.
go to RR....great atmosphere with better food, imho:)

Just had dinner @ R&C on 8/30 for nephew's birthday. It was great. The food was good (I had the steak and fish and it was one of the best cuts of meat I had all week), our server was terrific and they really did a great job acknowledging DN's birthday. Not only did they have the entire restaurant sing Happy Birthday to him, but also brought out a special dessert with a card signed by all the servers with a personal message. It was a wonderful experience. I too was nervous about eating @ R&C again as I had tried it before for lunch and had terrible service -- but that was definitely not the case this time around.

OK, maybe I'm a 45 year old woman with the sense of humor of a 5th grade boy, but the last time we were there I got fish and chips and I have to warn you - the fish looked like a GIANT batter dipped fried turd. My whole family stared at it; we were all shocked. I really couldn't enjoy it because of the, um, "presentation". :rotfl:

The counter service fish next door isn't that way, though, we've eaten there many times and enjoyed it.

If cottage pie is still on the menu, that's really good, as well as bangers and mash.

HTH,
Candee
