What did you order that you either really enjoyed, or want to tell others to stay away from? Did you wish that you would have ordered something someone else had? It is our arrival day dinner planned, and we (DH and I, DD5 will get her own meal) are going to share an appetizer, salad, an entree, and dessert since I can get a little sickly after being on a plane! Any thoughts appreciated!!

We have never had anything here we did not love. I whole heartedly suggest a few of the highlights of our visits:

Cheese Plate - this has such wonderful cheeses, much better than Chefs de France. The presentation of the cheeses is also wonderful.

Lamb & Barley Soup - don't pass this up. The flavors here are hearty and robust. The lamb is so delightful as it's flavor is very passive yet unmistakeable.

I hope you enjoy the Rose & Crown as much as we do!!

:thumbsup2

For starters my husband and I really like the mushrooms in cream or the lamb and barley soup. He has had and enjoyed the fish and chips and the beef stew. I've had the bangers and mash and the chicken pasty and liked both as well. The sticky toffee pudding is good. The ploughman's lunch is also not bad.

One of my twin sons (age 8) simply devoured the potato leek soup - 3 weeks late, he is STILL talking about it!

1. Cheese plate. This is huge, delicious, and not to be missed. I usually have this for my entree, I like it so much.

2. Potato leek soup. This is my dh's favorite soup in WDW. He likes it more than the cheddar beer soup from Le Cellier and the creamy lobster soup from Coral Reef. He liked it so much, he ate his bowl, plus my dd and ds's almost untouched bowls.

3. Sticky toffee pudding. This is more of a cake than a pudding, and is incredibly rich.

Enjoy!

I have to agree.. the fruit and cheese plate was awesome. I also had the chicken pastry and it was pretty darn good as well. This is one of my favorite restaurants - you'll love it, I'm sure!

DH loves the bangers and mash. I personally adore the fish and chips...we are from New England and its hard to find good f&c anywhere outside of our area. I really like their cheese rolls that come before the meal as well...they are quite tasty!! And as the OP said the sticky toffee pudding is awesome!!

We loved the tea, I wished I had asked what brand they use, if anyone knows please let me know.

Cheese and fruit tray for an appetizer, the Guinness Stew is one of the best things I've eaten at DW.

I would guess Twinnings as they are English and sponsor a shop in the pavilion.

We actually did not like the cheese plate...I thought it was skimpy...everyone has an opinion, eh.

The sticky toffee pudding was outstanding....we are going back in two weeks and I will be having it again.

We also had the steak and fish combo and it was very good....the steak was cooked to perfection and was a pleasant surprise.

I am looking forward to our next visit in a few weeks.....we are having dinner prior to the Candlelight Porcessional.....I'm ready now!

I'll put in another vote for the cheese plate. I really like it. I also like their cottage pie. They used to have a selection of small versions of a variety of pies but I don't see it on any of the menus posted online. I wonder if they changed it. I've had bangers and mash and their fish & chips which are also quite good but I tend to gravitate to the meat pies.

I am eagerly awaiting our trip in 9 more days so we can eat at Rose & Crown again.

The stewed mushrooms (doesn't sound half as good as it tastes!)

the steak was very good

the chocolate guinness cake!!!!

Ooooh...please stop it...it all sounds good to me, for I was raised in good British fashion!

What I forgot to mention is that my posting about my DS8 loving the leek and potato soup was that this info is second hand. I missed dinner at the Rose and Crown...DS8's twin brother had come down with a stomach bug! We'll have to put the Rose & Crown on our list if...when...we get back to WDW!

Now, how about a little sympathy...I also missed Artist Point, Narcoosies (well, 1/2 of it!) and we had to cancel Victoria & Albert's for our anniversary! OK, I realize I whined about this on another thread so I'll stop now. There's not supposed to be any whining in our household - "wine-ing" yes, whine -iing no!

I loved the cottage pie! :thumbsup2
As a matter of fact, I loved it so much that I craved it when we got home. I ended up finding the recipe on allears.net and made it for dinner...
Yum! :teeth:

Appetizer would be a hard choice. I love their lamb soup, my mom loved their leek soup, but I also love their cheese plate and their stewed mushrooms. When I was there this past Sept the waiter recommended their stewed mushrooms, but told me they were very filling. I should have believed him. They came in a huge bowl with a puffed pastry thing under them. They were delish, but too filling.

Entree I love their fish and steak combo, but my mom loved their bangers and mash.

Desserts I wasn't as impressed with. Their sticky toffee pudding is OK, as is their apple crumble. My ex loved their Bailey cream dessert.

Thanks everyone for you replies!! What exactly is sticky toffee pudding?? And cottage pie, is that just ground beef with mashed potatos on top? One more thing, we are from Wisconsin, if anyone has spent any time in our state are the fish and chips similar to what our Friday night fish frys in Wisconsin are?

Glad to see you are all discovering that we do good food over here. Like I said in another thread, I miss getting some veg with my half-pound steak when I'm over in FL.
