Rose and Crown or Biergarten for dinner?

I already have an early dinner ADR booked for Rose and Crown, but after hearing good reviews from my brother, I'm considering switching it to the Biergarten.

Our primary concerns are the quality of the food, and the entertainment factor for our 2 yr old son. We've been to R+C several times with good results, but have never tried the Biergarten since we don't tend to be sausage/sauerkraut fans. The menu seems to have plenty of other options and what I hear is a good show, so now I'm torn.

Assuming the differences in the cuisines, which one has better food?

Would the band at the Biergarten be overwhelming and loud for an easy-going 2 yr old?

We enjoy both, but for us Biergarten has a larger selection. That may seem obvious as it's a buffet, but the menu at R+C doesn't have a huge amount of options and for us you can always find something you'd like at Biergarten.

The band is quite entertaining and the restaurant is so big it never seems terribly crowded where as at R+C there are times when we feel like it's a little crazy with everyone waiting to be seated and the smaller size of the place.

But like I said, I don't think you can go wrong at either.

WE love both and both are must do for all trips. Since you have already been to R & C several times, give Biergarten a try. There are lots of things on the menu besides sausages. I really enjoy the roast chicken, the chicken schnitzel and the pork roast. They have a huge assortment of salads, some familiar and some not. You must try the sweet and sour red cabbage and the spaetzel. They serve several nice desserts. don't miss out on the strudel! The band is very entertaining performing traditional german music. Your little one will love it too! We will be there for lunch May 22!

I'd go with the Biergarten. The band isn't that overwhelming - we could still carry on our dinner conversation over it. Our six year old granddaughter went out on the dance floor, grabbed a partner and danced during the whole performance. It was quite a sight! I am not a sausage person at all but I rolled out of there. Because it's a buffet, you can try and many different things as you like.

Just remember that if you are a party of three, you will be seated with five other people at the communial tables (true to Germany and how their seating is).

I have not eaten at R&C, so I can't speak to that. When we went to Biergarten, we were not impressed. Maybe we were there on an off night, but the food, while decent, was mediocre, and there were often empty spots on the buffet--or trays that were nearly empty. I would understand if it was busy, but it was not at all busy. The show was again, okay, but also not the best. I know lots of people love it, but we didn't think it was worth the price.

Do they have kid food on the buffet?...or do you just have to hope they will like something from the regular buffet? My kids really prefer mac & cheese or hot dogs to real food. (where did I go so wrong?) I'd like to try this restaurant, but I'm afraid my kids wouldn't eat if they don't offer kid food.

I've been to Biergarten twice once last july then again in February. Loved it in July, but when we went back in February it was not that great (maybe they had a new chef??) Also the kids did not find much they liked.

Rose & Crown on the other hand has great kids food and we have eaten there like 10 times and never had a bad meal, i can't recommend this place highly enough!!!! it is great comfort food. Also the beer sampler is a great bargain as well

I haven't eaten at the Biergarten since it was a Table Service, before it was a buffet (am I dating myself ) I am not a Sausage person at all, so I have not gone back. As another poster mentioned you will be seated at tables for 8, so with strangers. That can be a plus or a minus, depending.
The atmosphere is festive and your 2 year old probably would enjoy it.
On the other hand, we eat at the Rose & Crown on every trip. We enjoy the ambience, the atmosphere, the wonderful CM's and last but not least the food.

They have your regular ole Mac N Cheese and regular frankfurters, chicken soup. The roast chicken is kid friendly. The schnitzel is a bit like chicken fingers. When My dd was little she found plenty to eat.
