I hear a lot about Rose and Crown for dinner, but nothing about lunch there. Can you eat outside at lunch? Is it crowded, PS recommended, or can I probably walk in (December)? Any food recommendations? ANd how's the chocolate trifle I saw on the menu for dessert? I'm a true chocoholic.

We always eat there for lunch. And sometimes dinner. Yes, you can eat outside. It is a popular place and we always make PS. We have gone in mid-Sep, early Dec, and late May.

Don't know about the chocolate dessert! We love the mushroom medly and the lamb barley soup (appetizers). This last time we had the cottage pie and guinness stew. Excellent.

Give it a try!

We have gone there twice for lunch (and once for Dinner and Illuminations), and always sit outside. Our lunch visits were spontaneous with no PS, but both were on the late side for lunchtime - probably after 2:00. Once was June '01 and it had been raining, and the place was not busy at all. The 2nd lunch was late January of this year, and again, not busy at all.

It is one of our favorites, and we typically get the fish & chips, and haven't yet had room for dessert!

Have fun!

i love the lunch there. I really like the shepard's pie and it is only served during lunch. We go there on our first day usually becuase it is relaxing to sit by the water and enjoy the view and meal.

I have eaten at the Rose and Crown for lunch several times, most of the time just walked up w/o PS. They have a great fruit and cheese plate that makes a nice appetizer to share or a meal in itself (especially if you want to save room for dessert!) Haven't tried the chocolate trifle though. Enjoy! :)

We ate there for lunch in June (a late lunch....around 3:00) without PS. We ate inside because it was very humid, but people were eating outside. I had fish and chips (my usual choice when I am there) but alas, I did not try the chocolate dessert. From what I recall about eating there for dinner, the menu choices are very similar at both meals....there are just larger portions at dinner.
