Rope Dropping MMRR on Opening Day

We have a whole day set aside for Hollywood Studios, to do all the Star Wars stuff, including rope dropping RotR (boarding group).

But before that...

Our first day is actually the day MMRR opens. We want to ride it opening day, and spend the rest of the day in the Magic Kingdom (which is where our FastPasses are, beginning in the afternoon).

How many hours before opening do we need to show up to Hollywood Studios to rope drop MMRR on its opening day and ride it with a minimal wait?

Depends on what type of queue(s) they decide to use. They might use the same type of boarding groups as RotR where there no way to guarantee an early boarding group because it’s all up to your phone and app’s responsiveness.

Unfortunately it seems Disney never informed the public about the new Star Wars processes until the night before.

I’m sure bloggers and local fanatics will be trying to arrive 4+ hours early.

They haven't released if they will do BP, FP or sll Standby for opening day.
I would expect either BP or standby until they make sure the ride is working as expected.

In a similar situation except we are planning on spending that entire day in HS, and although we have a FP for MFSR, not attempting to ride RotR this trip. I can't imagine the huge throngs of people showing up for this ride 4 hours earlier as they did for RotR. I haven't seen the same amount of hype surrounding it, although it has had its share. We will be in WDW several days before opening, and I will be watching these boards closely the night of March 3rd if nothing has been announced before then. Personally, I think they will just offer stand by to begin with, unless the ride has frequent break downs like RotR. I got the idea the breakdowns were what made the boarding groups necessary rather than the crowds.
