What time do you need to be at the MK to see the rope drop? This is my childrens first trip and I would love for them to see this. We are driving all nite and plan on being there when MK opens (waiting on calendar to come out for Oct :hyper: ) Is it real crowded at opening, any tips we need to know?

There was no rope drop near the castle during our 10-day stay in May or 4 days in Oct. Instead, we were held out front until exactly 8 on EMH day and 9 on other days. Folks packed the area a good 15 minutes before we were allowed into the park. It got hot fast!!

We were at MK by 9:00 am 3 days last week and never saw the rope drop, but we thoroughly enjoyed the park that early. Up until approx 10:00 am we were able to walk on all rides, including Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. Another tip we discovered was that Toon Town opened an hour after the rest of the park. When it did open we were one of the first families there and we were able to meet and greet all the characters before the mad rush. We were able to get pictures with the princesses, the Pooh characters, and the classic Disney characters all within a span of 20-30 minutes. I highly suggest getting there early to beat the crowds!

We just returned from WDW 7/16-7/23 and we saw the rope drop at MK twice. We went on Sunday and Friday and we were there at 8:30 am and it started at 8:50 am. ALot of the characters were there and there was pixie dust thrown into the crowd and lots and lots of disney music. My kids enjoyed it.

Couple of silly questions. What is the rope drop? Is there a schedule for it? and is it only in MK?

Rope drop is the opening of the park. We saw it at MK and at Epcot. At Epcot it was different. Right when the park opened the characters met us at the rope on a big bus and then we followed them to the center of the park and they all got off and we were able to mee them all. It was a great experience for my kids. I enjoyed it too.

Thanks for the info. Is it every morning at different park each morning? Is it by chance you see this or can it be plannned?

I dont know if it can be planned but we did MK on Sunday. Got there before opening and didnt see what we saw at MK on Firdya at opening. I think the one at Epcot is possibly everyday. We only did EMH at MGM and there was nothing special. It was only by chance that we saw these. We always got to each park at opening and we rode everything we wanted too cometimes more than once.

DH and I saw rope drop on our honeymoon 3 years ago--purely by accident. It was exciting but-word of caution- the stroller brigade is out in full force and they WILL run you over to get to Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, or Peter Pan. I dropped my sunglasses, stopped to pick them up and looked behind me--it was the most terrifying sight I've ever seen. I truly did not think I was going to make my 9:05 PS for Crystal Palace- I figured DH would have to scrap me up from underneath a double stroller. Good luck!

I had no idea they did a 'rope drop' at Epcot. That sounds awesome.
We will be making out first trip to Animal Kingdom in September.I read somewhere that they have something called 'The Awakening'.Apparently there are alot of characters(Lion King,Jungle Book,Mickey)and they also have live animals. That will be something we keep on eye out for.
