If they happen to be offering it on a day your at WDW, the Magic Kingdom Welcome party that happens before rope drop is interesting. I haven't seen it in years but it's one of my oldest memories about visiting Magic Kingdom as a young child. I think they limit it to about one saturday a month lately but it's a lot of characters performing on the train platform. It's not somethign you can really preplan for though as I've seen dates change and why we keep missing it. If it lines up with your morning though, it's not that much earlier than rope drop.

We are planning on trying to make rope drop this trip too. It has yet to happen for us...
I am curious what everyone does for breakfast? Do you grab something really quick from QS at your resort or do you wait until you get to the park? With kids if you were up earlier did you find going and getting breakfast for them and bringing it back to the room was speedier than sitting at the cafeteria at the resort?
Thanks.
We ordered food from Garden Grocer and ate most breakfasts in the room. It saved time and we don't eat big breakfasts. We are planning on trying to make rope drop this trip too. It has yet to happen for us...

My wife and I are going to do Rope Drop at least once on our next trip. We would like to see the opening ceremony but we are not planning on doing the mad dash to 7DMT due to slight mobility issues. So we are OK following the horde slowly or taking the train to head for BTMRR and Haunted Mansion. Should we hang out in the middle assuming that most folks will position themselves towards the two tunnels??
What is the best thing to head to first if we are there for rope drop? We haven't tried it yet but might on our next trip. thanks!
