Thinking about going for rope drop of mk. if the park opens at 9 what time do you suggest we arrive for this? will be staying at blt so getting there will not be an issue with transportation.

On our April trip, MK 9am park opening actually had rope drop more like 8:45am. We were there during low/medium crowd time, aimed to get there 8:20-8:30am, good enough for us to get somewhere near the front. Obviously during more busy time, or if you want to be right up front, you'd want to be there earlier.

As early as you can, plus you'll be able to get great pics out front!

was thinking about starting to walk over from BLT around 8 or so. that should give us plenty of time.

If they happen to be offering it on a day your at WDW, the Magic Kingdom Welcome party that happens before rope drop is interesting. I haven't seen it in years but it's one of my oldest memories about visiting Magic Kingdom as a young child. I think they limit it to about one saturday a month lately but it's a lot of characters performing on the train platform. It's not somethign you can really preplan for though as I've seen dates change and why we keep missing it. If it lines up with your morning though, it's not that much earlier than rope drop.

It pretty much happens every day, except I don't think it happens on EMH mornings.

Last year off season it wasn't every day. Haven't been in the summer for awhile.

I think I might try for rope drop on our upcoming trip..how long before opening would you recommend getting on the monorail from the Poly?

You will want to be there about 40 minutes before rope drop to be comfortable. We staked out one of the few areas with shade.

We are planning on trying to make rope drop this trip too. It has yet to happen for us...
I am curious what everyone does for breakfast? Do you grab something really quick from QS at your resort or do you wait until you get to the park? With kids if you were up earlier did you find going and getting breakfast for them and bringing it back to the room was speedier than sitting at the cafeteria at the resort?
Thanks.

I'd say 8:00 also - if it were my kids I'd grab something for them to munch on for a little breakfast while waiting. Otherwise, the second we'd get in, my DS would be asking for a pretzel, so we'd be off in search of one! A bagel or something that isn't messy works! I always keep some snacks in the room like that.

My wife and I get up before the kids. I run down and fill up our drink cups. If we are eating beignets we will have those in the room. If not we will have granola bars and such in the backpack. We will eat and put on sunscreen while we wait. We are there usually 40 minutes ahead of time. All of the parks opened anywhere from 30 minutes early (SWW at DHS) to a few minutes early at the MK.

We ordered food from Garden Grocer and ate most breakfasts in the room. It saved time and we don't eat big breakfasts.

My wife and I are going to do Rope Drop at least once on our next trip. We would like to see the opening ceremony but we are not planning on doing the mad dash to 7DMT due to slight mobility issues. So we are OK following the horde slowly or taking the train to head for BTMRR and Haunted Mansion. Should we hang out in the middle assuming that most folks will position themselves towards the two tunnels??

The commando people will be crowded in front of the tunnels. Middle gives best view of show, we usually hang out near the trees, you can get some shade and sit down and still see the show and be close to tunnels. On our last trip it looked like 75% of the crowd was heading to 7DMT/A&E. We followed the horde to 7DMT and only had 15-20 minute wait.

In the past we have taken the train to BTMRR which worked out well. But on our last trip 9am rope drop was actually closer to 8:45am, don't know if train is running right away.

Like everyone pretty much said get there 45 minutes early.

For breakfast do a pre-park opening ADR at crystal palace so you are in the park prior to rope drop. If you get one of the first actives you will see the characters and have plenty of time to eat and get out before rope drop.. Then you just hang out in front of the castle waiting for the crowd of rope droppers. .

Or have a light breakfast like granola bars, fruit or pop tarts, hit rope drop, then ADR a breakfast at crystal palace ( or other place) around 10:30. Set your FPs for after noon and you are all set :)

What is the best thing to head to first if we are there for rope drop? We haven't tried it yet but might on our next trip. thanks!
