Rope Drop Shows?

Right before Disneyland opens they lead everyone in a countdown. Not exactly a show, but it's still pretty fun.

hmmm. Interesting, does sound like fun. Better than nothin, right!?

So are there characters out front as the park opens?

Compare to the MK, DL's gates are right in front of the tunnels under the railroad. In WDW they have that huge plaza for people to stand in.

Also in DL I have been there where they let people into the hub and drop the ropes at each land's entrance. It was really cool and made it feel like a great payoff for getting there early. I really think they do it that way though so they can get people through the gates ahead of opening so it's not as backed up into the main DLR plaza between the DL and DCA gates.

I have occasionally seen one or two characters roaming around in front of the Mickey Floral as people are waiting at the turnstiles to get in. More often, after passing through the tunnels there are usually several characters right there.

Also, on the days that they do the countdown, they choose a family (or two) to participate. We got chosen several years ago. We were one of the first families there that morning near the front of one line. One of the security guards started talking with our DD and later asked if she would like to open the park. :goodvibes

No big spectacle show like WDW, but the Disneyland Band is usually out front by the floral Mickey playing music and entertaining guests as they arrive, usually with characters.

I find that DL tends to be a bit more subtle with these kinds of things. It complements the quaint charm of DL quite nicely.

I loved the opening things at MK and even Epcot...but Disneyland has so many people who visit all the time, I don't know that a "rope drop" show would get nearly as much attention. Plus there are only two parks (and only one that most people start the day at), so a pre-show at Disneyland just might get a little old for people who are getting there at opening for 5 days.

It would be nice if they had a little something small though. And super-nice if there was an area to wait in before the gates open, but after your ticket was scanned. (I know some days that's Main Street, but even on some non-MM days, I haven't been let in to Main Street lately...)
