Rope Drop Newbie

So im new to all this planning. Last time I went to Disney I concentrated only on EPCOT. That was 17 years ago. With park expansions it seemed all intimidating listening to somw frequent Disney people at work in terms of planning. One of those things include rope drop. How does one get the most of that?
