We are constantly hearing that rooms are all booked here and there. I tried to get a room for DH and I for Columbus day Weekend and all mods and values were booked. Tried to get AKL for my dad and his wife for any weekend in DEC- all booked.

Could it be that there are less rooms being discounted and less rooms being used. I can hardly believe that Disney would be cutting back even more, but I find it more hard to believe that I could not get room either time. For those who are wondering, the schools in (south) FL are open on Columbus day!

We are having the same problem getting a campsite Dec. 21-26th. When I asked CRO about it, they said that people that usually travel to Europe over the holidays are staying in the US because of all the unrest. That was the answer I was given a couple of times. They told me to keep calling back because something usually opens up. Good luck!

It would hardly make sense for them to close rooms and make no money on them when they could be renting them out and getting the $$$. I think people are trying to get back to normal and the previous poster has a point.

It wasn't all that long ago that you had to book an on site resort at least 6 months ahead of time to be sure of getting a room at rack rate. Many guests booked more than a year in advance to be sure of getting a room for the peak seasons of Easter and Christmas- New Year's Day.

Then the economy "tanked" and terrorists attacked. We got used to significant discounts and the ability to book at the last minute.

Two years ago, trying to reserve a room at this time for anytime in October, November or December (especially for a weekend or during Christmas vacation) would have been virtually impossible and a discount just out of the question.

Maybe we ARE slowly, oh so slowly, getting back to more normal times. I hope so!

I think its also the 2200 rooms that are closed due to CBR being refurbished. They had to put all those people somewhere.

I think you all are right about things getting back to normal. My thinking was if more rooms are used, more staff is needed. Anyway, we want to stay at WL next thanksgiving. I'm wondering when I should book those rooms, since we'll need two.

susy, I see you are from Florida, were you asking for Florida resident rates? It maybe that all discounts were gone.

I would book Thanksgiving 2003 as soon as you can.

October is a big convention month and often rooms are blocked off by the convention bureau. This could also be a factor.

I absolutely agree with a previous poster. I honestly believe that people are staying closer to home when vacationing. Quite possibly without even realizing it, people are booking family type vacations as opposed to Europe or something like that. Where esle better than Disney?

Just here in my own little corner of the world, more and more people who have never been to Disney are either booked to go soon, or are planning a trip.

Anyway, just my two cents. This is an interesting topic.

Have a great trip

In addition to the 2100+ rooms that aren't available because of CBR's temp. closing and October being a convention month I also believe many people who cancelled their vacation plans last year are rescheduling them for the end of this year.

I'm really curious to see if it's any busier this year when we go in December (during value season) than it was last year.

Susy, I would keep trying, sometimes things open up, even at special values. I recall the Sun Sentinel running a special insert EVERY year for the holidays in Disney right about this time. If there is an insert this year I would imagine there would be some rooms available.

But, I would go ahead and book WL for next year since it is a busy time. You may have to book at a high rate but depending on what day you arrive there you may be able to get a credit if a discount is available as you get closer to that time. GOOD LUCK!!
