Anyone stay in these rooms? How are they? Do they have less storage than the verandah rooms? We loved our verandah rooms last cruise but couldn't swing it this trip. :guilty: I have heard they have less storage. Anyone know? My MIL is worried about the motion in that location too.

Assuming 7504-7506 are identical to 7004-7006 directly opposite them on the starboard side of the ship, there is plenty of storage. We stayed in those rooms with our in laws on Wonder in 2002. More storage in fact than the Cat. 5 we just had last month, 7132, which lacked the steamer trunk, and perhaps some shelving in the closet, too.

Great location, enjoy.

Great! There is hope for enough storage. We are trying to fit 4 in each room so we will need the storage. :goodvibes Thanks!

We first stayed in 7010 and liked it so much in that area that we rebooked in 7503. That inside room actually has more storage than the outside rooms across the hall due to the double storage trunk. :) We are now booked in 7504 & wouldn't want to cruise in any other area. The motion is NOT any worse than in other areas IMO. I felt ALOT more movement in Parrot Cay when we were at lunch or in one of the dining rooms during dinner & they are lower & aft. The rocking put me to sleep quickly every night. If Don or Ron are your stateroom host, please tell them hello from the Graves family.

Lbgraves, you obviously don't mind the oceanview as opposed to the verandah. That's what I'm trying to decide, which is hard since we've never cruised. We will need two rooms, either 2 connecting or, if we end up with a verandah room, across the hall from each other.

How long does it really take to get to the 9 Deck drink station? I'm sure my boys will want to get their share of drinks and didn't know how long of a walk it really is.

Thanks, T&B

I'm a little confused. I've read from some people that they were guaranteed only a certain catagory of staterooms, but most people have an actual stateroom number. How does the booking of rooms work? Are you really guaranteed that particular room or just a room in that catagory?

Thanks, T&B

Well, the first cruise we booked a cat 11 midship & were upgraded by DCL to the category 8. That was a complete surprise and we did enjoy it but we would rather be on the ship in a 10 than at home. :) We did see the space difference between the 10 & 11 though & will book a 10 or up for that reason since the two kids will only get bigger.

It is just two flights up the deck 9 and then the legnth of the ship to the drink station. You should probably be able to make it there in a few minutes. We do go down the hall to the midship stairs though in order to avoid the smoking section at the adult pool & outside the Cove Cafe.

As far as the porthole vs. a veranda, we honestly wouldn't use a veranda and the porthole is so big that the kids could both sit in it & look out. On our first cruise they both played with their hot wheels by letting them race down from one side & roll back & forth. LOL! That kept them entertained whenever we were getting ready to go out. We didn't spend much time in our cabin either time.

We have requested staterooms when we have booked in the beginning. I think that they give you a gty room if they have sold out of that category. This allows them to upgrade & shift people around without reassigning them a room. You will find out your room number when you receive your docs.

I also wanted to add that these room at deck 7 forward are fairly quiet in regard to hall traffic unless you have very loud neighbors. The doors at the end of the hall go to the bridge so it is not a thru way for passengers. We didn't hear much noise at all during the week.

Lisa, thanks for all the info. I'm learning so much from these boards and that's coming from someone who didn't know a thing about cruising a couple weeks ago. Now, my biggest question is...how am I ever going to be able to wait 2 1/2 years to go on a cruise??? I'm going to be more crazed than normal by then!

4/2/2005 will be our third DCL cruise in a Cat. 8, and the last one was booked as an 8 before DCL upgraded us to a 5, also on Deck 7. I read the comment on going to the midships stairs to avoid the smoking--I guess I have not encountered enough smoke o make me mind, and I do like the open air walk to the drink station. But if there is enough smoke for your own personal sensitivity level, then by all means (I'm also a bit of a larger guy so I don't walk down the hallways between staterooms when I can have alternative.)

I am allergic to cigarette smoke so even a wiff of it in the air triggers my senses to it. It probably isn't a problem to walk thru it for some who is not bothered by it.

That brings me to another question. How is the smoking situation on the ship? We're not allergic to smoke, but we really dislike it. We're used to Maryland, where basically any smoking in public places is against the law (even in bars, for the most part). I have a hard time going to places where smoking is allowed since I've become used to the lack of smoke.

Thanks again :) ,

You could do a search on this board for smoking. There have been alot of debates about that. Without getting into that, the dining rooms & staterooms are all non smoking, this includes Palo & Topsiders. The theaters are non smoking. Cafe Cove is non smoking inside but have tables with ashtrays outside. Smoking is allowed by the adult & family pools but NOT by the Mickey Pool. The clubs are non smoking during the day for family activities but smoking is allowed at night so...if smoke bothers you, you could probably smell it during the day. Studio Sea is nonsmoking. Smoking is allowed on the verandah. We had a dis meet in a category 7 and could not go out on the verandah for this reason. We couldn't even open the sliding glass door or the smoke came into the cabin...and this was on a sea day. (Another reason I wouldn't spend the extra on a veranda. JMO.)

IOW, you can avoid smoke for the most part on the ship if you plan your path ahead of time.

It makes the Cat 8 rooms seem not so bad. I wouldn't be happy having a verandah room if there was a lot of smoke out there. I can deal with smoke from the night before, however, I would have a hard time sitting right next to someone at the pool who is smoking, even if it is outside. I suppose that it's not worse than any other cruise line, though.

Actually from what I have heard, no personal experience, DCL is better than alot of other cruise lines with thier policies. Knowing the layout better on our second cruise helped us to avoid the areas and I was not bothered by it at all week.
