Roommate Notification?

I know this topic is discussed in the CP Questions Thread 2, but I can't figure out what page I saw it on...

I have found someone I want to room with, and we agreed on apt complexes (either Chatham or Patterson) and number of rooms (3). However, I remember reading that if we sign up through the roommate notification, we will not have a choice of apartment complex & number of roommates - that it will just be randomly assigned. Would it be better to do the roommate notification and take a chance on not getting the complex & # of rooms that we want, or wait until our check in day (January 21) to check in together and potentially get the complex we want? Has anyone tried just going to check in with the roommate they want (not pre-assigned through the roommate notification), and getting it all to work out?

I don't really want to leave the roommate situation up to fate (and I really like the roommate I found!), but I also was looking to live in a 3 bedroom due to being on a budget. Let me know if you have any suggestions!!

I have another question on this topic. I am 20 years old now. I turn 21 january 29th. My check in date is Jan. 12. I don't know if I should register to roommate match or not. I also don't know if they will let me into a non-wellness apartment since i will only be under 21 for 2 weeks. Any help would be great.

You would be put into Wellness. However, if/when you want to move to a non-wellness apartment, the $50 moving fee is waived.

When I did the College Program in fall '07 my roommate and I signed up to be roommates through the roommate notification and we were given our choice of complex and number of rooms during check-in. I have heard of people who did the notification system not getting a choice before, but then again, i've also heard of people who didn't do the notification system not getting a choice...

However, all of my friends that did the roommate notification did get a choice. I think most of it just depends on what they have available at that time. We wanted a 3 bedroom in chatham, but they didn't have any left, so we went with a 4 bedroom in chatham. My advice would be to do the notification system, but arrive as early as you can on your check-in day! Either way, you're not guaranteed a choice, but if you do the roommate notification, you're definitely not guaranteed to NOT have a choice either...if that makes sense... :confused3
