Room with a view. Really??

I have a different take on room views and timeshares than most here do. To me (and to the developers generally) room view is a location and not a specific view promise. Landscaping matures and often other buildings are erected (on or off property) and not every room will be the perfect view or possibly have any view at all. It's simply part of the compromise of owning a timeshare, must like getting a HC room when you don't need/want one. The only way around it is fixed units then you know what you get.

Dean, you can say that with any hotel that offers "views"- it isn't unique to the timeshare world that your ocean view in Hawaii is at least partially obstructed (if not completely) by landscaping or buildings - or that trees have blocked your view of the pool. Or that your view of the Vegas strip is only visible if you stand in the corner of your room. The biggest difference is that in a hotel, if you complain, they are a little more likely to try and move you than in a timeshare. "Ski In" resorts where you don't need to ride the bus - but you will not be "skiing in"- you'll have your skis over your shoulder for a half mile hike in ski boots to somewhere you can put them on.

Ocean view rooms are particularly bad - in the interest of maximizing the number of rooms that they can call ocean view, the often build the resort at an angle - your straight out view is very likely to be a lot more building than ocean, depending how close you are to the vertex of the building.

I think it's far more common with timeshares and far more applicable. With a hotel you're actually paying for the specific in many cases and have recourse. No necessarily so with a timeshare, at least reasonably.

I am not a stop and smell the roses person but I have really enjoyed views at BLT, AK, BWV and WL.

We are 0 for 2 in terms of view as DVC members. I chalk both up to lack of experience!

Our first premium view was lake view at VGF. We did not make a more specific request. So we were given a first floor room that basically required us to keep the drapes closed so people on the path could not stare into our room.

To fix that problem, I followed good advice about how to make a more specific room request. We sent in a specific request for a "high floor" savannah view at AKL (thinking I would solve that first floor problem by making a more specific request). So they put us on the fifth floor. 2 miles from the elevator facing the small savannah. It turns out, high floor is really the least of your issues at AKL. Sunset Savannah would have been more important.

Did you ever see the movie Bedazzled where the guy keeps making requests that are fully honored and still go terribly wrong?

So, if we could only match our view selection with our room location request with the correct hotel we might get somewhere on our third trip coming up!

BTW - we loved both our VGF and AKL visit so I guess the view was not a killer issue for us anyway!

I love the theme park view at BLT.

I know everyone seems bothered by the large amount of parking lot that is visible but for me the fact that I can watch Wishes from my balcony is worth the extra points.....!

No crowds to deal with :)
