We like to avoid the bustle of the buffet when we board the ship. Can you order room service instead? Our PAT is 12:30 so probably won't be on until 1 or so and don't mind waiting a bit.

I'm not sure but I don't think so - perhaps after 2:00pm it's ready? Which ship are you taking? We also go in the sit down restaurant vs cabanas because cabanas seems like a mad house.

Once rooms are available, it should be available up until about 30 minutes prior to the muster drill and then through the muster drill as the cast members have other responsibilities.

One of the dining rooms will have lunch also. It's still a buffet, but there are servers that bring your drinks and to answer any questions about the buffet. It's a lot less hectic than Cabanas. We've always used this option. I like going to the restaurant because I'm one of those that feels like it's truly a vacation when there is someone waiting on me. Heck, you paid for it...may as well enjoy the spectacular service!

We also stay clear of Cabana's for embarkation lunch. Be aware that the sit-down embarkation lunch on Wonder is not a buffet anymore, since they needed space in Carioca's to install a stage. It is a table service lunch in Triton's now.

That's a pretty big change. Makes moving the herds of people a lot more challenging and time consuming.

The restaurant on the Wonder is Tiana's Place now, not Carioca's that's exclusively on the Magic.

Does anyone know which restaurant(s) on the Fantasy are open for lunch on embarkation day?

Please ignore - Found out it's Enchanted Garden on Deck 2.

Thanks. We will be on the dream in a couple of weeks. If we can get room service and enjoy it on the verandah we will do that. Otherwise we will try the restaurant buffet.

The counters on the pool deck will be open (pizza, burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, wraps, etc) so you could get those and take them to your verandah if room service is not an option.

My post was missing "since they needed space in Carioca's to install a stage for the nightly music show when they converted it to Tiana's place". The space previously used by the buffet, that remained hidden for the rest of the cruise, now has server stations and tables. The stage is on the other side of the room, where there were tables before.

I checked my Navigator for embarkation day last December and there's no starting time for Room service. I will guess they open at the same time as the staterooms ?

I just wanted to point out that there may be one other solution. Since you said your main problem with Cabanas is the crowds, and since you said you don't mind waiting a bit, you could try this:

Go up to Cabanas at about 1:30. When the make the shipwide announcement that the cabins are now open, stand back, watch the crowds flood out of Cabanas. Then you can eat there in relative peace. This is what we did. Plus, when you are done eating you can go to your cabin without any crowds either.

As soon as the cabins open at 1:30 you can order room service up until 3:30 when services all over the ship are suspended in order to prepare for the mandatory drill.

As a side note, I had a friend of mine who were the first to order room service on embarkation day and evidently were chosen Family of the Day...which I thought was weird because I thought they only had that at the beginning to board, but evidently it was for room service as well back then. :)

Only it was never Carioca's on the Wonder...

As soon as I get to my cabin, I pick up the phone and get two orders of All Hands on Deck, pop open my wine and sit on the veranda. Ahhhh!

So, on the Wonder, is it the regular Triton's lunch menu or do they have something different (with the loss of the Parrot Caybuffet)?

How is the wait when you first get to your room? Are they backed up by similar-minded orders, or does it come pretty quickly because not a lot of people are in their rooms ordering yet?

I don't recall waiting that long.Maybe 20 minutes? But then I am only getting cheese and crackers that they don't have to cook. I don't think that many people order room service when they board since they direct you to restaurants and people eat there. And then when folks get to their room they think about unpacking or maybe aren't even aware they can order room service then.

We enjoy a relaxing quick service lunch on the pool deck that first day. No major lines, and it's the only time of the cruise when it's easy to get a nice lounger.
