Room service menu question

On our recent cruise, I was surprised to see that the room service menu was pretty limited. Is that just a suggestion? Can you order anything you want (within reason) and if they don't have it they'll just say no?

Honestly not sure what you would expect on the room service menu that isn't already on there? It covers most bases but will yes be limited to the menu. There might be a few secrete items like Mickey Ice Cream Bars but everything they can and will do is pretty much listed like any room service menu in a hotel or any restaurant menu for that matter. I think you have to keep expectations realistic they can't just serve you whatever you want 24 hours a day as that would be chaos

Room service menu is what it is. If you want something else you'll need to go to the places on deck, Cabanas, or the MDR. But then again, only what's on the menu.
One of the things I was wondering about were Mickey bars. Everyone talks about them, but I never saw them on the menu. Another poster said they ordered cheesesteaks late night when everything else was closed, and they brought them. So I was wondering if that's common practice.

Mickey bars yes. Not sure why those aren't on there. Unless they've stopped that since it can take a while and they might be melted.

Never heard of cheesecake (though living in NY I would not get cheesecake on a ship. LOL.)

Some cruiselines will serve items from the MDR in addition to room service, although these are usually higher end luxury lines.

The Mickey bars were available from room service on the Wish last week.

A sandwich that DCL calls a New York Steak Panini has been available on the room service menu in the past. I do not know about currently, but perhaps that's what the post mentioned.

what is the quality of the room service food as far as delivery. How long is the wait for the food to be delivered once you place an order or do you call early and specify a time for delivery? Is food that should be hot still hot when delivered and if ordering the mickey bars are they melting by the room service delivers the food? We have never used room service in our previous cruises other than for the platinum gift.

I have had generally good experiences with room service, although we don’t use it often. Hot and/or warm foods were hot and/orwarm. Cold foods were cold. No real issues with delay of delivery. Now that’s not to say things can’t go wrong, and sometimes it might be hard to know if you’re ordering at the same time as everybody else on the ship.

We sailed a couple weeks ago and it was pretty meh. Wait time was usually 30-40 min, and we never received anything hot so we quit ordering hot stuff. Toasted stuff had gone soft by the time we got it. I got a garden salad with chicken on top and the chicken was tiny, thin pieces. Dressing was good... All Hands on Deck was our go to because it was always good and arrived chilled.

Unfortunately, we have had extensive experience with room service, not concierge. We quarantined for several days due to son having covid. We were lucky and could order from the MDR in which we were supposed to eat that night and order breakfast from the MDR, in addition to whatever was on the room service menu. They only let us do this because we were quarantining. With nothing to do but watch Disney movies and plan meals/eat, we ate way too much. Sometimes stuff was hot, but it was usually just warm. We didn't always get what we asked for either. It also took a long time. Some of this may be because we were ordering from the MDRs, and maybe they are not used to that. Our son ate the room service pizza 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner:rotfl2:We let him since he was sick.

I think it was probably cheesecake rather than cheesesteak. There are a couple of items that aren't on the menu but available (Mickey Bars and Crustables are the two I can think of plus coffee and tea). The Cheesecake was probably the cake of the day as the name is a very loose name to be honest (often it is a cheesecake).

True and in a one bed suite or above you can do this but only at dinner and during the regular dinner times i.e. 6-10pm

I always seem to get about an hour wait (they tell you when you order) but it depends how busy they are at the time. I also never find the food piping hot but its never stone cold either. Mickey bars are always a great temp when they arrive.

Cheesecake is actually on the menu on the Wish. At least is was when they got the menu for the DCL blog.

Contextually I think it was cheesesteak because the poster I saw mentioned it in the plural, and I would be surprised if they ordered multiple cheesecakes. :D But either way... I keep hearing they don't do the cake of the day anymore, anyway. :/

Yep, I found it again. The poster said: "In regard to the room service food late night in my experience if you call and ask for anything they’ll make it for you. We would get cheesesteak subs at like midnight no problem." So I just wondered if that was generally true or if this was an unusual instance.
