Room service for kids room

My family is getting two connected rooms. Mom and dad in one room, 3 boys (will be 10, 8 and 7) in the other. I'm thinking of ordering room service breakfast for the boys' room because my middle son in particular goes full on hulk if he doesn't eat something soon after waking. Will there be an issue, safety or legally, with a ten year old answering the door for room service? I'd leave a few dollars for him to tip. Is this a crazy idea?

In reality, one of the adults is "in" that room. Because that's how you must make the reservation. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with my child answering the door in the morning with no parent in attendance. Why not have the room service delivered to your room and then take it to the kid's room?

@PrincessShmoo is correct. How can you reserve a connecting room with no adult listed? You should really look into the ramifications of two connecting rooms. Having breakfast delivered is the least of your concerns ($$$$).

I rather imagine they've already booked it that way, with one adult in each room (on paper). But they're planning on putting the adults in one room and the kids in the other.

I am confused where you will be when your kids are awake, calling room service and when it arrives? Sleeping?
Please keep this in mind....our experience is that our kids slept much later than normal while cruising because we were all up so late having a great time! If you are thinking they will be up much earlier than you, what I am trying to say is that may not be the case.

You can always grab some box cereal from Cabanas in the morning to keep in the cabin for him to eat when he gets up

This!! Cereal, fruit, even the yogurt cups store well in the fridge overnight. You can also fill out the room service card the night before and mAke a note for them to leave it in the hall, then you or the kids (whoever is up first) can bring it in.

I doubt a room service attendant would deliver to a room with only young children present.

Staff won’t knowingly enter a stateroom with only minors present. The child answering the door would need to be able to juggle cash for tip (or signing the slip) and the tray and the heavy stateroom door himself. I suggest you bring items from Cabanas to keep in the room for early breakfast. Then order once all (or at least the parents) are awake.

Another vote for grabbing something the day before from Cabanas. Maybe a muffin and a plate of fruit from the day before might be enough to keep the hulk at bay? Someone else mentioned yogurt or cereal box. Also, you could order an uncrustables the night before so he has something.

Yes, we have two rooms reserved, an adult in each. I plan to have the connecting doors open at all times (except, ahem, certain times), but have the kids sleep in one room, adults in the other.

Also, does anyone know if you can ask for uncrustables or mickey bars on the breakfast room service menu? And can I clip a few dollars tip to the note asking them to leave the food by the door? Then I won't need to worry about what time we're going to wake up. My kids are typically very early risers, before 7, but I'm really hoping they'll be able to stay up for the shows and sleep in a bit in the morning.

I'm not sure how it would work actually attaching the cash tip to the breakfast order, since you hang the order on the door handle outside. The cash just hanging there could be a bit tempting to someone.

Personally, I don't like food trays (used or not) in the hallways. They do cause issues with wheelchairs/scooters, housekeeping carts (as well as people just generally walking down the passageway).

I don't know that I'd be comfortable bringing in a tray of food that's been sitting outside my door for who knows how long and then eating it.

My kids are early risers and we’ve tried both room service and snacks from Cabanas, although we’ve stayed in a single cabin thus far (connecting booked for next trip!).

Snacks brought onboard or from Cabanas works much better for us. I’ve never been super impressed with the breakfast options from room service and we never get the timing right. They either wake up before I predict or sleep in and room service wakes them up.

IDK if they can leave the tray by the door or not. Seems like it could pose some liability concerns with food safety.

I can answer this part of it. I don't think they will leave the food at the door. They want to make sure it is for you, and that you received it. One time we met our Room Service delivery outside in the hall so as to prevent waking sleeping family members inside the room, but he still insisted that we use our key to unlock the door to prove it was our room. He didn't go inside, nor make us go inside. He just wanted us to prove it was really our room. Once we unlocked the door, we closed it again without going in, and he handed us the tray.

As for your 11 year old answering the door, I really doubt it would be an issue. All they have to do is put the food down and leave. I'm sure they have all kinds of situations, like parents in the bathroom etc. to deal with, and they are ready for it. They will appreciate that you've given your 11YO a few $ for a tip, and probably just leave quickly. They also don't mind multiple orders to the same room. Once, my wife and I ordered a snack from room service, but when it arrived my teen-aged sons had returned to the room, so we ordered more food almost as soon as it arrived. They were fine with that, all they cared about was that the original food DID arrive. When we explained what happened, they suggested a few other items to add to our second order to satiate our sons. Very light-hearted and helpful.

It's actually a 10 year old, and I'm not sure they would enter the room with only kids in there. Can the 10 year old handle the tray would be another question, if room service can't enter the room.

OK. 10. As I say, I don't know a specific policy that says if you don't see an adult at that moment you can't go in. I'm sure they have dealt with everything. Plus even if they put it on the floor just past the door, you don't think three hungry boys could manage to eat the food? No real need to carry the tray at all if it is too heavy.

OP asked our opinions. You gave yours. I gave mine. I respect what you are saying. It could be correct. Obviously there is some age where they wouldn't do this, but the parents feel comfortable having them sleep alone, so they have some amount of comfort with it already. And if the 10 YO opens the door and they won't give him the food, then he'd just have to wake Mom/Dad up and get them to take it. No big deal. Giving kids responsibility teaches kids to be responsible. OP knows their kids best.
