How long does room service typically take to be delivered?

And I thought I read somewhere here you could have a standing order delivered, like a coffee carafe every night for early risers?

My parents are cruising with us and my mom won't get out of bed if there's not a coffee in her hand. ;) Plus, DS is a super early riser who will want to eat asap, so I figure if I order or save treats from the night before, I can hold him off until we can get a real breakfast.

Room service takes anywhere from 10-45 mins depending in how busy they are. In your stateroom there are breakfast cards you hang on your door the night before. You can order coffee and continental items. If I recall correctly you select a time frame and they call a few minutes before it gets delivered.

What we did was order yogurt, cereal, whole fruit and milk from room service on day one and keep it in the fridge (well, not the cereal) so we had quick midnight snacks and pre-b'fast snacks on hand for ds6, without having to wait for it to be delivered (or get dressed! LOL!). We replenished during the week from both room service and the buffet, and it worked out really well to always have something on hand.

Additionally, my fave tip for a great in-room b'fast was to order our cold stuff, coffee, juices, etc from room service and just before we anticipated their arrival, one of us ran up to the buffet and filled one plate with eggs, bacon, waffles, etc, covered it with another plate, and upon arrival had a full hot/cold b'fast for the family!

When we went to Alaska in June it Room service was extremely fast! I think they sat outside our room with their chocolate chip cookies at night :) You can always make a quick run upstairs to the deck where they always have hot coffee without having to go to breakfast.

My wife and I found ordering the cheese/cracker and fruit trays to be a nice treat at night while the kids unwound from the long day. Could take minutes to 1/2 hour. Went well with a glass of wine.

Really like the breakfast ideas, never noticed the standing breakfast order.

Not to get too off topic, but I love that cheese and cracker tray ("All Hands on Deck"). And the fruit bowl was a great accompaniment. The cheese and cracker tray did have a small amount of fruit (grapes)with it. It was a fantastic afternoon snack (way better than the quick service by the pool).

If you google it, you can see photos of it. I love that people love it so much they take photos of it. :rotfl2:

We used these "Good Morning" cards to pre-order breakfast items the night before. You can find these card in the desk drawer, we only had 2 though so asked our room host for more. You select a time range which goes in 1/2 hr increments with latest being 9-9:30. Then you hang the completed card outside your door by 3 am. There is juice, coffee, tea, milk, cereals, muffins, bagels, toast etc. Every single time we ordered this way room service showed up at the beginning of the selected time range - so if we ticked off 8:30-9:00 they came right after 8:30. We never got a phone call before hand.

Have to try this next time!

Ooooh I like this idea!! DH and I are planning on bringing wine on our cruise, a fruit plate would be a perfect addition for our night cap ;-)

Your mom might want to get the carafe the night before; it really does keep the coffee nearly hot all night. Freaky, actually. That way she doesn't have to answer the door in the morning.

I did this on the final night of our cruise as I'm not quite human until I have coffee! Ordered around 10pm and it was still hot at 6am. And I agree with those mentioning the fruit plate, my ds's loved having something to snack on while dh and I got ready in the mornings.

Thanks to tips here, I did this every night of the cruise as the kids were getting ready for bed. Coffee arrived and stayed hot (steam came out of the carafe the next morning when opened) on the dresser each night. I am an early riser and didn't want to disturb the others (and I enjoy "my time" on the verandah watching the dawn), so this worked out perfectly. After the first night, I ordered extra cream as they sent about one cream per cup, and they were very accommodating.

I am sure you could order additional items for your little guy.

Enjoy your cruise!

I just searched for pics of the All Hands On Deck plate and the search did come up with pics of it (looks good!) but also for some reason there were pics of DCL cast members snorting cocaine! :scared1:

Awesome! Thanks for the replies. Sending Dad to get coffee won't go over too well, even if it's just up a flight of stairs. He'll grumble too much. The last cruise we took was 8 years ago and on another line. We ordered room service & it took over an hour and was cold when we got it. I don't want to have to wait up for it to arrive longer than we need to.

Our DS loved the All Hands on Deck. We would order it with extra grapes and he would snack on that at night while watching a movie in the room.

To the OP: room service coffee is so much better than the stuff up on deck. For coffee, you'll either want it from room service or during the seated dining. The coffee at the drink station just tasted strange.

Can anyone clarify this for me:

How / when do you leave their gratuity? Is it like the room stewards and such?

Some people bring extra $1 bills to tip with or there is a receipt to sign when they drop off the food. But lots of times they drop off the food very fast and it's hard to give them a tip on the recipt.
There is not a tip envelope to tp room service with at the end of the cruise.
