I am really interested in what the room service is like at AKL. Thought maybe it would be interesting and cool thing to do with my DD on our Mommy/Daughter trip in October, but would like some more information on it. I've tried to do a search and I'm not coming up with much and what I do find it seems like it may be a little out of date.

1) Does anyone have pictures of the in room menu?
2) Some of the threads I did find mentioned being able to order from Jiko and have it delivered by room service. How do you do that? Is it the regular menu or a special room service one? Do you have to be Club level?
3) Is the food good?
4) What are portion sizes like? Are they big like most restaurants or are they much smaller?

Thanks for helping!

We ordered room Service breakfast and it was great. I think I had coffee eggs and French toast and the kids had the pumba plate eggs bacon ancient was yummy!, no idea about jiko.

I know at Kidani the room service menu is from Saana. So it would make sense if at Jambo the room service menu is from Jiko. Our portions were normal restaurant size.

No photos of the menu, but here is the breakfast menu:http://allears.net/menu/menu_akrmb.htm
and the Lunch/Dinner/Late Night: http://allears.net/menu/menu_aklin.htm

The in room menu does not list the selections from Jiko, I'm guessing because they change frequently while the rest of the menu does not. It just mentions that you can order from Jiko and to call room service for that evening's selections. You do NOT have to be club level to order any kind of room service, even from Jiko.

The only room service meal I had at AKL was breakfast. I did a review you can check out to see photos: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=40553060#post40553060

ooh, thanks for posting this! We are doing a 1 night before and after a week at captiva, and I didn't want to waste too much time at a restaurant...we can eat our meal in the room and watch the animals at the same time...then head to mk for late night! Luckily, I will be back for my sisters week during FW festival, then back at Christmas with DH.

Be aware that they deliver within a 30 minute range, not at a specific time. We did breakfast at AKL in December and requested 7:30 but they didn't show up until the end of their 30 minute window just after 8:00. My starving and then-pregnant wife was not happy. You may want to err by choosing the earlier slot and assume they'll be late if you have other plans for the night.

We did AKL room service in May 2011 and it was one of the best meals of our trip. They called when they started to our room, set up the table in our room with tablecloths, etc, the food was wonderful (we had the steak and the salmon), then we called when we were done and they came to the room and cleaned it all up.

Definately will do again next trip.

Thanks for all of the information. I think my DD will really enjoy something like this since she has never experienced room service before.

Another question: Someone mentioned ordering breakfast the night before. What do you need to know about this? Is there anything special you have to do other than call room service? And if you tell them 7:30 a.m would the 30 minute window still apply when preordering your meal the night before?

We left our menu on the door the night before and it had a time that you could select as to when you wanted to have the meal delivered. We selected a specific time and it was delivered promptly. HTH

We just ordered room service there Thursday night! But, we were out by the pool so had them deliver out there, it was nice and relaxing and the portions were huge. We ordered 2 meals total for the 3 of us and there was a ton left over. We were on deluxe dining plan so it was 2 credits per meal, you CAN order from Jiko, but cannot use the dining plan for that. We were told our food came from the Boma kitchen.

Edited to add, we each got an app, entree and dessert which was why there was so much food.
