Room Satisfaction

Another of our concerns is that the rooms will run down. We've read a few of the comments about room conditions and some are troubling. Have you been satisfied with the conditions that you found your rooms in?

Once I was a little dissatisfied with the condition of the room, and I complained to housekeeping at OKW. After I got home, I got a phone call form the head of the dept. explaining what they had done to rectify the situation!!! They actually took the room out of circulation and redid it!

hi: all rooms that are used will eventually run down. most resorts have on-going projects to maintain/replace what is needed. things happen. during our september trip at bwv, the shower head broke. a simple phone call to maintainance and it was fixed while we were out at the park. both okw and bwv are being updated/renovated. the poly has been undergoing renovation/construction over the last year or so as well as the grand floridian.

Even in the oldest buildings at OKW, I have never felt the rooms were run down. That just isn't the Disney style! That is one of the reasons we bought Disney instead of another timeshare. We felt the reputation would be important.

We stayed in a one-bedroom and a studio in BWV in November/December. We were very impressed with the condition of the one-bedroom, non-smoking unit w/boardwalk view (I think it was number 3041). However, later when we switched to a studio, it was a smoking unit and was in dire need for some repairs, a good scrubbing, and a new coat of paint (it was room number 2031).
So, I guess the moral of the story is that some units are better than others, however, if you are a non-smoker you probably want to make sure and get a non-smoking unit. Although the studio we were in was dirty, mildewy, and such, not just the typical "cigarette burned" smoking unit.

THE FIRST TIME WE USED OUR POINTS AT OKW,OUR ROOM KEYS WOULDN'T WORK.TRIED TWO SETS-NOTHING.THEY HAD TO REPLACE WHOLE DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY.WHILE WE WE'RE UNPACKING WE NOTICE A/C DIDN'T WORK.NOW WE ONE MAN WORKING ON THE DOOR & ONE ON THE AC.LATER WE FOUND EXHAUST FAN NOT WORKING,TOOK THEM TWO TRIPS TO FINALLY FIX IT.REPAIRMAN LEFT BIG PILE OF DUT & DIRT FROM FAN ON OUR CARPET,HOUSE KEEPING HAD TO COME OUT & VAUUM.WASN'T EXACTLY DISNEY AT THEIR BEST.

I think Disney does a good job on the upkeep and also does a good job holding out dues steady, things are replaced without problems and if you notice something that isn't up to par, then you need to let them know.

I have been a DVC member since 1992. I ahve noticed some wear and tear as the years go by. Nothing extroardinary btu I also noticed some units were recntly redone. Remember part of your dues goes into a fund for updating and redoing the resorts (breakage etc.). I have always found that a call to maintenance/housekeeping gets a quick response. Last Nov our bellman Dave called to get a lightbulb changed. Before the maintenance lady (yes lady) arrived my sister noticed the bulb in the refrigerator was out. She put her finger in to check to see if it was loose and got a shock-No bulb. When the maintenance lady arrived we mentioned the bulb in the refrigerator and she also reached in to check it as we all screamed "No, wait there isn't any bulb!" She got a shock too! Anything to make the guests happy!

I was apprehensive about buying at OKW because it has been in existence for 8 or 9 years. I even went to Disney to check it out. So far my fears have been totally unfounded. I have been going to Disney since 1976 and even the original hotels are in good condition and frequently renovated.
There will always be minor problems but I don't think Disney is going out of business anytime soon and as long as they continue to build more resorts such as the Beach Club Villas I am betting that they will have to sell them based on the reputation of the resorts already in existence.

What you get overall with the resorts are cycles at the end of which people might feel it is run down. That applies to all WDW hotels. The cycle is usually about 4 to 5 years because about every 4 to 5 years (and it usually takes that year to complete), they repaint and remodel rooms (all the WDW hotels go through that cycle. During the cycle they are also keeping them up but it is mostly work as needed. BW is now at the end of the cycle and beginning of another as they started room remodeling last spring (taking maybe 10 rooms at a time) and I am guessing by now are almost done (and which explains the comment made above about getting two rooms and one looked run down. Generally there is always some hotel and usually more than one going through the remodeling in any given year. I have hit other hotels (like the poly and the GF) at the end of their cycle and they really felt rundown, but then return the next year and they look brand new.

We have stayed at OKW each year since '92. One time a few years ago, we walked into a room that did show signs of wear. I mean, it was clean and absolutely fine, but there were some places on the sofas that were begining to fray. The carpets seemd like they had seen better days.

I found out that the building I was in was the next one scheduled for rehab. The last two year we had units that looked about brand new.

A previous poster mentioned room 2031 at the BWV.

We stayed in that room in February. While the room showed wear, I was very pleased with its condition.

It was a smoking room (we don't smoke), but it didn't smell of smoke. The furniture was in good shape and I never felt like the room was dirty. Having stayed in many hotel rooms recently, I thought that the room was very clean.

My wife, who is by far the pickyer of the two, didn't complain about the rooms condition at all.

the DVC resorts are in better shape than most of the disney property (except of course the newest building) - why? because owners will complaint before resort guests when something is not perfect and DVC encourages this. I have had several things wrong over the years and one phone call was all it took. When there is something you don't like or doesn't work - pick up the phone and call housekeeping (even if it is mechanically). Most of the time they will fix it immediately.

to the original poster you used the word a few of the posts that had witnessed poor room conditions. This is very rare. And once a situation is brought to the attention of the proper folks it is corrected. This should not be construed as a reason to not join the DVC.

On our first trip to OKW a few years ago we were a bit discouraged by the wear and condition of our room. We found out while we were there that they were right in the middle of refubishing the rooms. They were up to building 26 and we were in 37. So we decided not to get too worried and wait to see what happened. We have had 5 trips since and not a bad room in the bunch. I must say too that the wear in the room on our first trip was not that bad at all. But when we toured we had seen a brand new room and were kind of expected the same conditions in our room. Probably no hotel can keep the rooms looking like brand new for long. But our dues do seem to keep the rooms looking pretty nice.

We've seen the same wear at other Disney hotels, and , of course, non-Disney hotels. All being equal, I'll take any of the DVC over the others.
