Don’t use chat Via the app!! We made that mistake before our trip last year and they didn’t pass the request on to the resort. The resort front desk even said don’t use the app chat because they don’t communicate the requests to them. Call up the reservation line and speak to a cast member, it worked perfect for our trip this past March
 
I like to email via the link on the member website. I might use chat on the member website if it happens to be available when I log on, but I prefer email because I usually receive an email acknowledgement that they received it.
 

I like to use the chat feature on the DVC member page when it is available. My second choice is to call in. As mentioned above, of course nothing is guaranteed. I do not even know why I bother sometimes before our flights get in early and if ANY room is available I will take it most times over waiting like we did for our "perfect room" at the Beach Club. We arrived at 11:00 and our room was not ready until close to 6:00 and we don't do parks on arrival day. Ugh! Now I'm all about getting a room early versus getting a preferred location. Of course YMMV.

OKW got us the exact room and others got us a ballpark but not Poly completely different floor and longhouse than requested.

We have used both Touring Plans and Member Chat.

I agree that some resorts are better than others. It seems that I hardly ever get anything at all that I request at Kidani, no matter how broad the request. More often than not, at other resorts, I get somewhat near what I requested. I always Email MS through the members website.
 
I always use DVC member chat or I call MS. Just my preference. But as mentioned, sometimes the requests are honored and sometimes they can't be. We're about 50-50 on our requests over the past 30 years!

Exactly. I like how you've put it here "can't be". Just because requests aren't honored doesn't mean they're being "ignored" as a previous poster seemed to imply. Sometimes requests simply cannot be fulfilled. That's why it's better to not be super specific (like an exact room number) but to give priorities and if possible a reason (Like "third floor because we would prefer a balcony" at the Poly.) If you're too specific, the assigner won't know why you requested that and that makes it harder to meet the request.
