Is this still a thing? I did this for POFQ in 2017 but now TouringPlans is saying for me to send room request but NOT a specific number, as the whole thing will be ignored. Advice? We will be at Beach Club in October and mostly I want to be close to International Gateway. Thanks

Touring Plans has always advised not requesting a specific room number, - for at least the last 25 years, possibly even predating the website. If you are making requests, through TP or not, just follow their recommendations.

Lets say you request room 4005. You request that room because it's close the lobby, has a full balcony and a day bed. Without knowing WHY you wanted 4005 if it is not available (which is very likely) they don't know why you specifically wanted that room. so they put you in 4006 across the hall because why not but 4006, while close to the lobby has only a Juliet balcony and no daybed. Therefor if you're looking for a room close to the lobby with a full balcony and a daybed tell them that.

And give them a preference order for those things so that they know which is most important if they cannot meet all 3.

Agreed, give them your preferences in order with the most important to you 1st. I'd also try and limit myself to 1 or 2.

When do you guys make this request? I once read that requests can be made 60 days prior. So making a request earlier doesn't work? You just make a call?

When we stayed at the Contemporary a few months ago, used the drop down box on the Disney reservation site to select a room preference. Worked great. The choices vary by resort.

I always use the Touring Plans room request where they fax it in 5 days before your arrival, and success is about 50-50. Last time we got the room right next door to the one we requested, but I did not alter the text box on the request when I placed it. I think it had that line about facing NW or something like that, with about 5 room numbers in a row on that side. Good luck!

Yes, you’d call the reservation line to make requests. Requests can be made at the time of reservation or anytime after that. Rooms are assigned a few days prior to your arrival, so don’t wait till the very last minute.

During the online check in process, you’ll have the opportunity to select some request options, but they’re very limited and may not suit your needs. I think most people just call.

I did this for POFQ in Sept 2017 and Touring Plans suggested for me to NOT request a specific room number. I did anyway and got it. I filled out the form for POFQ in Sept 2018 and Touring Plans suggested to NOT request a specific room number. I did anyway and got a room six over from my requested room.

So far I'm 4 for 6 with the Touring Plans form. And the 2 were very close to the room I requested. Got my requested POFQ room Sept 2019 - in it now. Since I signed up for Touring Plans that form has aways suggested to not request a specific room - it's still a thing.

My advice is to request the room you want.

The problem requesting a specific room number- the assigners don't know why and if that room isn't available you would probably be disappointed. Give general location.

Just because someone else has had luck with requests doesn't mean you will. I'm 1/2 for recent trips.

Unfortunately the drop down box option doesn't always work for every resort. It gave us very limited options for our stays at both POFQ and GF this summer. I recall for GF it offering upper floor or top floor and that was it, and POFQ was near transportation and ground floor I believe.

I use a TA usually and have them call with my requests. The past 3 times I've done that, I've gotten exactly what I've wanted. I prefer top floor because it's quieter and it gives me a little extra exercise, and then I'll sometimes request a corner room because I like the extra light, and I'll typically request a specific building. IMHO at POFQ, you can't go wrong anywhere.

This has always been "a thing", since the first Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World (touringplans source) was published with room request advice. Site users are free to ignore the advice.

Now they email about 30 days out. No more faxing.
